Great selection of beer with great food. The ambiance was chill with awesome 90’s music with a splash of old rock n roll. The owner and bartender were the best!

This has been my favorite bar in JC because of the plethora of drink choices and also their food was always on point. That being said, some of their food lately has not been the same and I date to say not as good. The fries are different now(no longer the beer battered ones everyone loves) and they removed some good items on the menu. I heard it was cuz they changed the chef. Maybe that’s just me being biased to the way the menu and service was before, but I do wish they still had ribs, turkey wraps and their BBQ burger. Regardless, great people there and great place to grab drinks and hang. Hope it stays that way! UPDATE: The non-beer battered fries must have been a fluke! They’re not gone after all!

Even in a blizzard, PJ’s has an awesome beer selection and, I would argue, the best burger in jersey city.

This place was right around the corner from the apartment we rented in Jersey City for a week. We went there after trying to get into another«sports bar» that had a few tiny TVs and hardly anyplace to sit. We’re so glad we held out for a BETTER sports bar experience. The staff was friendly and helpful, and made great recommendations for East Coast ales for my hubby. Food was great, and the Happy Hour specials made it even more enjoyable. Glad we stumbled upon this gem in JC!

This place rocks it. Get the Blu cheese burger it’s the real thing. Bartenders are on the spot and the food is class A for a bar. Luv it.

PJ Ryan’s is exactly what you want your neighborhood sports bar to be. Above average beer on tap, great happy hour specials, friendly bartenders and a food menu that doesn’t suck. I came in for happy hour and slurped down a few strong gin and tonics that were four dollars. Can’t beat it. They also had specials going on for draught beer and wine as well. Didn’t end up ordering any food on this trip, but after reading the menu I’ll have to come back hungry on my next visit. There were a different options that you normally don’t see on a bar menu, like steak salad, fish and chips and a medley of gourmet burgers. JC doesn’t have that many sports bars, and I’m glad to know that PJ Ryans is a solid pick to throw into the rotation, especially as football season approaches!

If you’re looking for a trendy, upscale night out on the town, skip PJ Ryan’s. Walk right by, hop on the PATH and get off at 9th Street. If you’re looking for a fun atmosphere where you can get nice and inebriated, stuff your face with good food and enjoy a solid fun crowd, PJ Ryan’s is your place. I live right around the corner from this place, and I have never had a bad night there. The food is your typical pub food, but very delicious. They have a huge bar with multiple craft beers and liquors. However, one thing I always liked about PJ Ryan’s is the bartenders. They are all pretty knowledgeable, social and very laid back. I could stop by after work in a suit or stumble down there on the late night in sweat pants and I would never feel out of place. PJ Ryan’s is your typical neighborhood Irish pub. It’s clean, cozy and attracts a good crowd. And as long as I live in the Grove Street area, I’ll keep coming back.

My go-to Irish pub in Downtown JC — space is large-ish but not a cavern, lots of TVs to follow the game, deck in back. Good food, good beer selection. French Dip steak sandwich on ciabatta is excellent.

I live right down street from this place. My friend and I love coming here enjoying the casual drink. Great vibes, drinks and food. Basically has become my go to spot.

Not only is PJ Ryans one of my favorite neighborhood bars, but I recently had my birthday in their new party room and it was the perfect venue. Amazing service and hospitality, delicious food(including vegetarian options), and plenty of space to have a large group of people together for a great time. We were able to play our own music, had access to our own bathroom, and had plenty of room to dance, drink, eat, and celebrate. Great place to have a party!

PJ Ryan’s is just a perfect«neighborhood bar,» that is an appropriate spot for just about any circumstance. I love going here by myself on a weekday, to watch a game, or with friends for a night on the town. PJ’s has a great beer selection, with the classic cheap beers available while offering a great selection of craft beers. Truly a selection for every beer lover’s palette. And for the scotch drinkers such as myself they do have a nice selection that goes beyond Johnny Walker. The most underrated part of PJ’s is their food. It is way beyond bar food and the head chef is truly a «chef» so you see interesting specials. I love the Tuna burger, but the nachos are above average and nothing you get will disappoint. Also– PJ’s has an outside area which is great for summers!

Live right down the street, but just recently stopped in this joint. Food was mostly good — the turkey burger with goat cheese and cranberries on an english muffin was tasty and cooked well… but the side salad was pretty sad. It reminded me of getting some spring mix on sale from the supermarket(that you’ve let sit for a few days) and tossing bottled vinaigrette on it. The cajun french fries were probably the highlight. We got a side order for around $ 5 and it was huge and they were deeeee-licious. Perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Fries done right. But the $ 8 appetizer of fried green beans(which were admittedly tasty) consisted of literally about 12 beans strewn on dry mixed greens. Had I known it was going to be like $ 0.75 per green bean I might have passed. Service was good — server(we think it’s the one who looks like Jim from the Office from other reviews) was friendly and prompt. No problems there. Beer selection is bipolar — the bottled/canned beer selection they have listed online is great. They have some real gems in there. But the beers on draft left a lot to be desired. I would have expected those beers from a TGI Friday’s — Guinness, Smithwick’s, Bud Light, Coors Light, Yuengling, Stella, and Blue Moon. I guess this is what you have to do though if you don’t have a lot of patrons ordering micro-brews on tap. Crowd was diverse. It was quite an interesting mix of people, actually. I’m sure I’ll stop back in and try out that Shepherd’s Pie special I saw. I’m a sucker for comfort food!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon to watch my Hawks. They boast of 10TV screens so we figure at least one of them would show our game. Yes, they had many TVs but all were a little awkwardly positioned. The bar itself is pretty cozy, so there were TVs in random spots — over the bar, in a corner, randomly on a wall, you get the picture. There a few side tables that accommodate parties up to about 5 and then off in the corner there are a few tables as well. Unfortunately for us, our game was at the same time as the Jets game so the majority of the TVs were on that game. We were lucky however to find an empty table in front of a screen and the manager let us choose what game to watch(without sound of course — but I’ll take what I can take). Like I mentioned before the awkward placement of the TV proved to be straining on our necks after a while. In terms of bar food I was really impressed. Not only did they have a great selection of beers on hand(check out their website they are linked up to BeerMenus that give pretty detailed information about everything they have on hand as well as listings of other bars you can find it at — ) but they also had 2 gluten free beer options — Glutenberg and cider. The fries were my favorite part of the meal, we ordered both the beer battered fries and the cajun. Both were very crispy and although we took our sweet time eating them, they remained crunchy and delicious! Loved how heavily seasoned the cajun fries were. Wings were solid, we ordered the bbq and they came unbreaded. I topped off my meal with the caesar salad with grilled chicken on top. I am a saucy gal and PJ Ryan’s sure knows how to serve up their salads, if you aren’t a fan of heavy dressing I recommend you get it on the side. The grilled chicken was great, thinly sliced and served warm and juicy. I do believe that they have a separate tailgate menu in their courtyard, but we didn’t make it out there.

Hey this place is great. They served me a very cold 60 minute IPA and the yummiest grilled cheese and tomato soup combo I have had in forever. The food was surprisingly delightful. My boyfriend had the fish and chips and he also loved his meal. Not sure why it took me so long to give this place a try but I will most likely return very soon.

Very chill place. The bar is long, with more open space in the back. They have some outdoor seating as well. I came here at 1 am after going to Barcade. We were looking for another place to hit up on our first night in JC and Unilocal suggested PJ Ryan’s. They had a small space for darts, which we ended up playing for over an hour. Drinks are decently priced as well, $ 6 for a gin and tonic is not bad at all. Overall, had fun here with friends. Wish I could give it more than 3 stars, but the staff was not attentive at all, and the bar was pretty empty.

This is a nice place if you’re looking for a bar with lots of TVs to watch some sports. The staff isn’t overly friendly, which strikes me as odd for the sort of neighborhood spot this is. The drinks are fine, although I’ve had a pretty big variation in quality across several visits. One time I had a Manhattan that was amazing; the next time not so much. But let’s face it, this is more of a beer bar, anyway. The other night, my wife had the boneless chicken and while the sauce was delicious, the chicken was a little overcooked and dry. I had the fish and chips – the fries were delicious and the fish was good, but there was too much batter for my tastes. It’s a nice, neighborhood tap. I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way, but it’s a decent place for a bite, a beer and some sports viewing.

A couple of my friend who live in the Grove Street area swear by this place. I’ve been here a few times and I really like it too. Its a small irish pub near Christopher Colombus Blvd. downtown Jersey City. The have happy hours throughout the week which is nice especially when its strictly for ladies! They do serve food and have a decent food and drink menu. There is a nice size bar with stools and cushion seats in the windows and high top tables with stools on the perimeter. The bathrooms are clean but have a step so watch before your step. The overall noise level isn’t too bad considering the sport bar feel. This is definitely I nice place to have a drink with friends, a date or come solo.

After going to the mall with my wife we both needed to eat something. This has been bookmarked for awhile so we thought we would give it a try. I try to keep the Mrs. happy since she is of Irish descent.(Even though I was a Irish pub junkie prior to meeting her or being on Unilocal). One of my critiques would be there didn’t seem to be enough Irish items both on tap and on the menu. Though we didn’t notice the special which was Shepherd’s pie until we had already ordered. Upon entering, we were greeted by our server Meredith. We were given a table right away and asked if we wanted drinks. I had the Hoegaarden on tap and the wife was going to order her usual, Magners apple cider, until Meredith recommended the pear cider. My wife totally enjoyed it, it was very refreshing and she thinks she could get into a lot of trouble if drinking this all night. :) For our appetizer we ordered the Chorizo Beef Sliders. They have a little bit of heat from the chorizo and the chipotle peppers and were very good. We then both ordered sandwiches, I had the Bratwurst which is served on a pretzel bun with a spicy mustard infused with Guinness and had the cajun fries. My wife had the turkey burger with goat cheese, spinach & cranberries which was very different and delicious. If I lived closer, I could see myself hanging out with friends on a Sunday afternoon watching the games. I recommend trying this place if in the area. Slainte!

Now — the expansion of PJ’s has me a bit spooked(yes — its expanding to the next-door place of our house) — I’d hate to have barf and cigarette butts around our front stoop. that being said, we love the convenience and courtesy of the spot. Whether for a quick drink, a bite to eat(OMG their veggie burger is amazing. Actually — all their food is really solid. and we’ve had our fair share of the menu). our group even brings our own set(s) of darts… because the darts there were so busted, we made the investment to bring our own(per team) for true bragging rights. And — when Im hopelessly losing at darts and stopped caring, the dozen tv’s are a great distraction. I love that my non-local teams get some air-time as well(for all of you booing — Ive taken over the jukebox too, so get used to it!).
