The food I would rate 4 – 5 stars. But that nasty lady at the front counter gets a 1 star

We have been regular customers at Morgan for a while now. The fish is usually very nicely cooked and tasty. However, we had a bad experience today. We ordered take outs today — 2 grilled fish. We reached home and started to have it, both the grilled fish were kind of burnt and not edible. Overall, we had a bad experience today.

Fried white perch dinner is my regular when they have the perch. So crispy in the outside, tender in the inside. Covered in some tangy, sour sauce and served with shading brown rice. Sometimes I even order extra brown rice, it’s tasty.

I have been going there for the past 4 years and has never been disappointed. Fishes were fresh and prepared just right. However, the wait can be long on the weekends.

Sigh. I wanted so desperately to love this place. I love Egyptian food and my boyfriend is originally from Alexandria so I have become very accustomed to the culture and the cuisine. One of my first experiences with Egyptian food was at Marina Seafood which is around the corner from Morgan. The food was phenomenal and everyone who I told about the place raved about Morgan and how it was so much better compared to Marina. So, for months I was dying to try. I finally picked a day and decided to have dinner there. The parking is horrible so after twenty minutes of looking for a spot I was anxious to eat a meal that would make up for the hassle of getting there. When we walked in, it was cold and we were not greeted. But I didn’t expect the fancy five star treatment based off of the reviews and the location. However, a mere«hello» would have been nice. We looked around and finally a woman who was sitting down came and asked us «to go or to stay?». I decided that I didn’t feel cozy or comfortable so I changed my mind and opted for takeout. The lady we spoke to was kind of rude and seemed agitated by our questions. We were asking the basics; what was the special of the day? how is the fish prepared? what comes with the meal etc? After going back and forth for about five minutes we settled on two blackened Oratas, garlic prawns and rice, tehena and salad.(55 $) She told us, «it will be forty minutes.» We didn’t complain. We brought the food back home and before my boyfriend, took one bite he said he liked the other place way better(Marina) He noted that just by touching the fish he could tell it wasn’t as fresh as what he was use to, and it was going to be salty and undercooked. I figured he was exaggerating but when I took my first bite a huge shadow of disappointment came over me. The rice, salad and tehena were amazing but the fish was lacking the freshness I was looking for and the flavor I expected. I guess I set my expectations very high because of the reviews and nonetheless, I was left disappointed. I give this place 3 stars because it was OK. For people who haven’t traveled to Egypt or had authentic home made delicacies, this place might strike them as fantastic. But because I am assimilated into the culture and have tried a variety of different dishes and restaurants, I was not impressed.

Simple restaurant, I would say even ugly, if you pass out side and you do not know the place most likely you will keep on going, But prices are extremely cheap! And for the money u are getting one of the best deals you will ever find! Ordered babaganush which was the best I ever had for $ 1.99 or $ 2.99, Humus was good as well for $ 1.99, Middle eastern tomato and onion salad was excellent as well for similar price. Then for main dish we had just fish no need to get the full meal for $ 5– $ 6 more. We took one bronzini and one Bass which were very good as well, just a little salty for around $ 12, plus one delicious side of brown rice for around $ 3. They did not have desert but we did have hot tea with mint . To make a long story short great meal with a lot of food for two people $ 37 not including tip!

If you want to have the freshest seafood in the area, you definitely need to check this place out. Very family friendly environment– the owner knows what I usually order. I would recommend the Morgan plater if you want to try everything.

Everything just worked well for us yesterday. We were driving around looking for parking since there aren’t that many spots where you could park. Luckily for us, the metered parking spot closest to the streetlight opened up and we were merely 10 feet or so from the actual restaurant. Although we arrived at 11:45am, we waited until 12:10pm-ish since the owner was still bringing in ingredients. We didn’t order until roughly 12:30pm, but it was totally cool with us. Our patience was rewarded well. Grilled Striped Bass Main Course(($ 17.99): Grilled to perfection. While the fish skin is charred, the flaky meat itself is moist, juicy, and flavorful. It was not a second overcooked. Each bite was enjoyable because the spice rub they use on the fish is an interesting mix of spicy and ardent flavors. It blends well with each of the different kinds of fish they offer. This«main course» comes with brown rice(or french fries), tehena, bread, and a salad. The salad is refreshing; the vegetables were fresh and crisp, while the vinaigrette they use had the perfect tanginess. We also enjoyed the tehena with bread. My table also ordered grilled branzino and fried red snapper, both of which were just as delicious as my striped bass. Any of the whole fish they offer can be grilled, fried, or baked. Hot Tea with Mint($ 1.99): I actually wanted an ice tea, but the owner offered hot tea, so I gave it a shot. I’m not sure what kind of tea they brewed, but it was very aromatic. It had a smooth roasted taste that complemented well with the mint that was thrown in. If you order this, you might want to order an extra drink since their hot tea is served in a pretty small coffee cup. Overall, we had a fantastic lunch. The service was great, everyone was friendly, and most importantly, the food was delicious. We will definitely come back here and try the rest of their fish selection.

I must start by saying that I am in general not a big fan of fish. I came here for the jumbo shrimps. Before coming here I was warned about the wait already, but man, it was long… We got seated right away, but it took 50’from the time we ordered till food arrived. We ordered grilled branding and grilled jumbo shrimps. The fish was delicious, it’s sooooo fresh and well marinated. The sauce is rich, flavorful and complement the fish so well. The shrimps on the other hand is mediocre, a bit mushy actually.

We were visiting from Boston and Morgan was recommended for us as we were looking for seafood! I have to say that the food here is amazing! People are extremely polite and the owner who also is the chef took the time to leave the kitchen and come out to explain to us what different types of fish they have and how he cooks them! Even my 2 children who don’t usually eat seafood both had their plates. I ordered the Morgan seafood platter and that was a huge portion of Calamari, shrimp, fried tilapia and brown rice! My husband ordered a BBQ fish that also was recommended to him by the owner. We had Egyptian tea and desert(Roz belaban) after food and I finally have to say that their food and their service are more than excellent! I’m definitely going back there every time I visit NJ.

Walked in and I felt like I walked into a seafood restaurant back in Egypt. We spoke Arabic with the owner from the get go and he treated us like we were family. The seafood was so fresh and delicious! We got the grilled shrimps for an app and they were fantastic too! Would definitely be back!

Came back here on thursday for the second time. We brought friends who were very impressed. The grilled fish is amazing Portions are large so we ordered one complete dinner and one only the fish. With that you have more than enough. Fish is cooked from scratch so it takes about 30 – 40 minutes, which is why it is so so good. Prices and service are good too, which is why we will definitely be back.

Now I understand what everyone is raving about. I love places like these — brings back a lot of good memories. The seafood is displayed right as you enter, so you can see how good it looks. My wife had the branzino, full order and I had the prawns. They served pita, the tahini dip and a cucumber tomato salad. The dip and salad was really good, but I think the pita is not homemade as it got dry and hard real quick. The grilled fish came wrapped in aluminum foil and it was a good size, very moist inside and although I was expecting the skin to be crisped, I guess the wrapping prevented it. Sill, it was very good. My prawns(4 for $ 15) was a great deal. It’s not easy to find these around JC. Cooked in what they call garlic sauce, it had a lot of middle eastern spices on it, and some people might not be ready for that. We will definitely be back to sample the other fishes such as sea bass, red snapper and tilapia.

Good: Seafood! Good menu options. Dishes ordered: — Fried Stripped Bass entrée — Fried Branzino. — Rice with Shrimp — Calamari in tomato sauce The entrees come with warm pita bread, tahini, fries and cucumber mint salad. All the accompaniments with the entrée were fantastic. You can switch salad for fries for the entrees. No frills place and run by a husband and wife so keeps the prices low. Also they are open 7 days a week! Bad: place is cozy with only a few tables. This is more of a take out place than a sit down place. They use a 3rd party delivery service that charges $ 4 for delivery. Street parking around the restaurant can be tricky but there is paid park of nearby. Ugly: nothing really Will I be back: yes most likely will order delivery

I FINALLY made it out to Morgan. This a Jersey City establishment that deserves every bit of praise it gets. It’s tiny, so takeout is recommended, though the place isn’t lacking charm. The focus is rightly on the food, with their Main Course offerings more than enough for two people to share(or for one person to make two dinners out of). Maxing out at $ 19, you get your choice of whole fish(ranging from cheaper choices such as tilapia and perch to delicacies like branzino and orata) with heaping sides of brown rice, tahini sauce, two pieces of fresh pita, and a tomato-cucumber-onion salad. The brown rice is tender and fragrant, the tahini thick, the pita soft, and the tomato salad immensely refreshing(with fresh veggies in an oil-and-vinegar dressing topped with dill and mint). The fish is clearly the star, prepared as your choice of baked, barbecued, or fried. I went with the BBQ’d branzino. It took close to an hour for the meal to be prepped and driving back from JSQ on a Sunday evening is never fun but… it was worth it. The fish was as fresh as can be. What they term ‘BBQ’ is closer to what you’d think of as ‘blackened’: coated with spices and cooked at high heat until the exterior is crisp and the flesh tender. This is among the best fish I’ve had in a restaurant(McCormick’s in Seattle still tops the list). The meat was mild and just firm enough, providing an excellent base for the heavily spiced crusted skin. The skin was a bit salty but the balance of spices worked well. This was not an easy eat, though: being a whole fish, you’ll have to deal with a number of bones. I’ll be back at some point for something baked or fried. All in all, very highly recommended
