What a wonderful sushi place! Maybe it’s because I frequent NYC sushi places where the portions are smaller — but this place provides such generous portions for the price. The individual salmon sashimi slices were so thick. My friend got the salmon skin salad — and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was the size of an entrée salad in NYC, full of fresh julienned vegetables and crispy salmon skin. I got one of the special rolls and found that it was the equivalent of what I’d consider a two person portion of food. My friend ordered one additional special roll and two pieces of wasabi roe sushi. Again, given the portion sizes, we had so many leftovers that I ended up with two additional meals for later. The sushi is otherwise tasty and the raw fish is fresh.

The food here is amazing. All the food is made fresh and right in front of you. It’s a gem of a place.

Komegashi is one of the few places that serves ramen near the Jersey City waterfront but unfortunately it’s very mediocre. The ramen noodles had no bounce to it probably because it was overcooked and the broth was mostly bland. It seemed as if the broth lacked the proper ratio of ingredients to water because the flavor was very very light. If you were to come by for lunch I’d recommend you stick with the bento boxes. They are a decent value for less than $ 10 and the salmon box I received was tasty. It comes with soup, salad, your entrée’s protein, rice, a spring roll, and orange slices which I feel is a placeholder for an otherwise empty slot. I still prefer Teppan’s bento boxes but this’ll do. Unlike its sister location in Newport which has a waterfront view and date night ambiance, this is a smaller restaurant where you can see all the tables once you walk in and is filled with bright natural light. This is good for lunch but I’d recommend going to the Newport location if you’re looking to take someone out.

If you are into the more authentic stuff then this is your best sushi option in Jersey City. If you are going to order spicy mayo covered rolls you can still get that here, but why?

I am so glad my coworker(who lives in Jersey City) recommended Komegashi to me! I come during lunch and I’ve never had a bad experience. My usual order is the spicy kimchi ramen and a salmon avocado roll(which is definitely a lot of food for lunch but I can never make up my mind so I get both!). The ramen at lunch comes with a green salad and the dressing is fantastic. The ramen noodles are soft and fresh and the pork in the soup is the perfect balance of tender and savory without being overly fatty. The sushi is as good or better than any restaurant I’ve been to in the city. The service is attentive, quick to refill drinks, and the food comes out relatively fast. This is definitely a neighborhood gem and I have recommended it now to several of my other coworkers.

Solid sushi joint. Freshest in JC in my opinion. So if you’re willing to walk a little further, I’d definitely suggest Komegashi vs. Honshu.

This is my go to sushi spot in the neighborhood. It’s easily accessible if you’re in the Paulus Hook section of town. All the dishes here are fresh and well done. Happy hour is 5−7pm every day. Sweet deal! Make sure to get the Ika(basically fried squid tentacles). Tonight I felt my salmon skin hand roll was a bit too strong tasting and that’s because they were serving wild salmon tonight. I may be the only weirdo in the world that likes farm raised more. Definitely stop in if you haven’t yet and if you’re visiting this is a great place to grab lunch or dinner.

Great food and great service! I went last night with three friends and we were promptly seated and promptly served. The fish is very fresh! The menu is an extensive mix of raw and cooked, carnivore and veggie options.

Great little sushi place in JC. Always busy and now we understand why. We had a signature sushi role that was fantastic and ramen bowls which would be perfect for any cold day. Friendly staff, will be back!

I was looking for a sushi place near the Paulus Hook ferry and stumbled upon Komegashi. I was lucky to find parking across the street on Christopher Columbus which I was thrilled about. I ordered the Nigiri Sushi Dinner which came with a tasty miso soup. My date started with the seaweed salad and then a specialty roll. Overall the sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious. The service was great thanks to the friendly staff. I will definitely be back for more sushi and to try their ramen.

Always great food and service here! The ramen is better than many of the restaurants in NYC. I would choose Komegashi over Totto, Ippudo. Try the lychee sangria.

Always loved the food at this Komagashi location. I started coming here when I was living in the area 18 years ago. Although I no longer live in the area, I still come back for dinner every chance i get. The food has never disappointed me. Best steak I’ve ever had at a Japanese restaurant. Sushi is always fresh. I must say I was disappointed to see the custom crêpe taken off the dessert menu. That was always my favorite end to a dinner. My favorite dishes: Samarai steak Chirashi Royale Gyoza hot pot Fisherman’s pot(new, tried it on 9÷26÷15) great spicy taste All their sushi are extremely fresh. .highly recommended as well

The happy hour specials are great. Beer is $ 3, and appetizers are $ 3, $ 4 or $ 5 depending on what you get. I got all four of the five dollar ones. They were all great and actually too much food, I couldn’t finish the last one. A picture with the happy hour menu is attached. On a Thursday afternoon(around six PM) there were a few tables, most of the customers were Asian, which I took as a good sign. This is a small place, not fancy at all, but nice and clean. I now plan on trying all the hh $ 3 and $ 4 appetizers in two different visits. Then I will move on to the entrees and report back. On a different visit I tried a ramen plate, not the spicy one, which tasted bland. But then I tried the spicy ramen(there is only one spicy ramen on the menu) and it was amazing on a cold January day. It comes with a boiled egg, three slices of pork and some vegetable. My plan is to try everything on the menu in the next couple of months. That is all.

Been here about two times now, one with my brother and the other one with my friends. Both times the meal was enjoyable and staff was very friendly. The first time I got a katsudon and an order of the miso ramen. Both tasted fine and would definitely order again. The second time I got spicy miso ramen which imo tasted better than the one without spicy. We asked for karage(japanese fried chicken) but they said they didn’t have any for that day which was a bummer. We also got two rolls, one was spicy salmon and the other was an eel roll. Both were amazing.

I ordered the Yakisoba take-out… They gave me fried rice… Would you plz pay more attention? Regarding the fried rice, I ordered for the vegetable one. However, there were almost none. I felt like they only put one piece of the broccoli, one egg, ¼ carrot but lots of scallion… Really not good.

Great place for some of the best Sushi in JC! Been here twice in the past month & it just doesn’t seem to be enough — I want more dammit! The bf & I typically start with a ½ order of oysters, some sashimi & end it with a couple of specialty rolls, along with a couple bottles of saki for good luck ;) Every visit has been great! The oysters are so dam good, you don’t even have time to try and eat them sexy, just put them in & enjoy the goodness! The sashimi /sushi is always very fresh, well made & good portions! I’ve also had a taste of the chicken teriyaki — another good dish! The chicken was soft, moist, tasty with fresh veggies, and brought out sizzling hot in a skillet — just the way I like it! The reason for the four stars is service. Although the staff is nice, friendly and on top of it, for some reason the end of the meal is where it slows down as we’ve usually have to flag someone down(after waiting 10 – 15 min) for our check. Not a deal breaker by any means, still my fav sushi spot in JC!

And I love the way Nobo crafted it one by one. Sushi is definitely some craft and these chefs are blessed by god.

Komegashi is a great place to get Japanese comfort food. Try the beef curry udon — think thin tender slices of beef marinated in the most hearty and spicy curry broth accompanied by the most bouncy udon noodles. Slurp! So good. We also ordered the Big Ball sushi roll — which is spicy tuna and tempura flakes wrapped in sushi rice with yellowtail and avocado on top. It was the perfect combination of salty and creamy with a little bit of texture thrown in. Probably one of the better meals I’ve had in a while — and the simplest. Komegashi never disappoints.

I think this is probably the closest to authentic Japanese restaurant around in JC as you can get. In my opinion their best offering are their ramen lineup that I thought was quite decent without having to go to Mitsuwa or Fort Lee. Definitely thought this location is better than the one in Newport. I tend to come here during lunch hours as I used to work in Exchange Pl and usually prefer this place over Honshu mainly because of ramen. This time however I decided to get one of their lunch bento boxes and I was quite pleased with the amount of food I got. Salad did take up quite a big portion of the box but I thought they did really well with the tempura frying. It was a quite filling lunch to be honest priced at $ 8.95. So overall I thought 4 stars is a pretty rating for them. I never had to wait when i was here for lunch however can’t speak for dinner. I think definitely a good lunch spot if you work around the area you probably either heard about it or been here already :)

Delicious ramen(and other goods) in a quiet setting along Montgomery. You’re greeted with a dish of edamame as soon as you’re seated. The menu has Japanese standards(teriyaki, katsu), with a formidable sushi selection and about a half-dozen ramens to choose from. The tonkotsu ramen was a huge bowl of silky, pork-y broth filled with tender ramen noodles, roasted pork, fish slices, and a soft-boiled egg. Immensely satisfying, especially on a grey drizzly day. Head out for an early dinner to take advantage of their happy hour: cheap gyoza make a great start to any meal.
