I frequent Fun Buffet pretty regularly. Is it the greatest food? Nope. Have I seen one or two things I would love changed? Absolutely. However, the same can be said for any restaurant but this is the best overall buffet in the area. I typically come here when they first open so everything is fresh, hot, and I don’t encounter any of the issues other people have complained about on Unilocal.I think the food is pretty good. I do not eat meat so I stick to the fried fish, stuffed shrimp, crab(sashimi not real crab meat) with cheese, veggie foo young, chicken wings, and I like the chicken used for the sweet and sour chicken. I avoid most of the other items and the desserts are nothing to write home about. If you get there at lunch time, tremendous value for the money, and the staff is always accommodating. Bön Appetite ;)

I came to Fun Buffet when I was much younger, and I was not a fan. I come again 14 years later, and still feel the same. The food tastes rather old, and there aren’t too many options to choose from. No thanks.

Second time i been here and the food continues to be disgusting and they have the audacity to buy Popeye french fries and offer them as part of the buffet ensemble.

My friends and I love it. It is very cheap. And its food is delicious. Although there are not so many choices, but the cheap price is really worthy. I think the desserts need some promotion. Because I rarely eat those desserts. The taste is just so so.

What a horrible experience.. They charged my almost 1 year old $ 6.00 for sitting at the table. I didn’t mind paying that amount for my other 2 daughters age 5 and 6 because they did eat a little something. I explained to the manager that the baby didn’t even touch the food. And she said that if the baby is sitting at the table she still had to pay. it wasn’t so much about the money it was the disrespectful way she spoke back to me. The food was horrendous the place was dirty. the seafood was not fresh and there was flies flying everywhere.. My family will never ever go back again. and not to mention customers where alittle too ghetto a lot of cursing and loud talking..

This review is long over due, maybe it’s been 3 years since i’ve last been to this place… 1. This place is falling apart… Like they’ve put zero effort in renovating since they opened. 2. I’m pretty sure I saw a rat run across the room… The tail was pretty long and its body could probably fit snugly in my shoe. 3. Even after 1 and 2 I still proceeded to eat some dish with shrimp in it and 15 mins later, as soon as the door opened to my place I ran to the bathroom(front door still left wide open) and proceeded to… Ummm… Expel my dinner… So yeh… I have not stepped foot in that place ever again… I mean this is Jersey City, so if you’re looking for chinese food just drive along west side, there’s like 3 in a 2-block radius…

I’ve been here many times and the phrase«You get what you pay for» is very true here. The food selection is ok but the prices is what attracts me. The place does need a makeover and the bathroom is very dirty which made me only give it three stars. The food is good but the desserts are ok. It is a good spot to get a quick bite.

The food is pretty good but I would recommend to take out not to sit because it’s very pricey if you sit. It’s actually very inexpensive if you take out :)

Summary: standard Chinese style buffet. They have a wide variety to choose from, but the quality of the food is just ok… I’d rather go to Minado buffet — but then again that’s Japanese style and a bit more pricey. You get what you pay for here. Food: typical Chinese food. I’d recommend the fried donut if you have a sweet tooth. Not much variety in the sushi department and not sure if it’s necessarily fresh… I’ve never had food issues here though so it’s fresh enough! Haha. Place is good for groups or just a couple of friends. I always see family’s here as well. Not much more to say on this place, but let me know if you have any questions!

Not the best Asian buffet experience for me… I relocated from the land of Asian Buffets(San Francisco Bay Area), and this one was just ridiculous. The basics(rock hard sweet and sour pork, stale fried rice, fishy smelling sushi, or watered down flavored soups) were not appetizing at all, and the atmosphere is just plain weird. The scariest part of our buffet was when the«waitresses» sat down to eat, and brought out bowls of stuff that smelled like«doggy doo»…(Seriously…) Whatever they had in those bowls smelled like dead something, and our group almost started gagging, because of that stench. They said it was something fermented(fish or some type of meat), and they were eating that stuff like it was the best thing around… Never again will I attempt to eat there. They need major renovations, cleaner seating areas, and fresher food, not to mention hoping they would eat their smelly dishes in the back or away from customers who may not be used to those scents…

The Reviews of this place are sadly, accurate. Yes, The Place Needs a major renovation. Yes, The tables are rockier than a teenage relationship, and yes, The seats are torn and tattered. The food however, pretty damn good depending on what you get. The mystery meat dumplings are actually quite great. The safer choices(fried Chicken Wings, Terriyaki chicken, And egg rolls) are decent. My favorite item this place pumps out are the mussels in black bean sauce. Now if you think eating seafood from a place like this is risky, I don’t blame you, but just try it and take the next day off from work as a precautionary measure to devote to spending some time on the porcelain Throne. Another plus is the drinks. A long Island Iced tea puts you back a mere $ 4. Though its not quite as authentic as one made by an IBA Bartender, Three will Have you slurring your words and devouring everything in sight.

The food is ok and $ 7 lunch price is not bad. It doesn’t have much food selections like other buffet. The service is ok. The place however does need a makeover badly. Some seats are ripped and tables are not quite balanced.

I’m a buffet aficionado and I say no this place. The prices are great but this place is dirty and the good has been sitting out for a while. Service is also fairly poor. We sat at a table eating for a while and the table next to us had dirty dishes on it the whole time. It really ruined the eating experience.

It is truly one of the most dingy food establishment in Jersey City, even considering that it is a cheap Chinese buffet restaurant. While they advertised that they had about 100 dishes, they failed to mention that the diversity within the menu items offered is very limited. Even though they technically offered snow crab legs during the dinner hour, it was never replenished during my hour of dinning on a busy weekend night. It was extremely disappointing

Love this place! $ 6.99 for weekday lunch. Wish it was cheaper for dinner. The food is delicious and I’ve never had a problem with it. When I’m in a rush I do the takeout which is $ 3.79lb. Cheaper than anywhere else I know. My only hang ups with the place would be the older lady that’s usually behind the counter, she’s really rude and always angry but she’s nice to my grandma so I guess I can deal. The bathrooms are clean but I wish it didn’t have that«public bathroom smell». Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who’s feeling a little gluttonous and also wants to save $$$ on lunch or takeout.

I admit, I’m a bit partial to buffets, contrary to many«foodies» and reviewers here on Unilocal.I’ve been here many times and far more often than not, the food has been fresh, sapid and perhaps best of all, cheap. You have your standard«Chinese» and«American» offerings as well as a few sushi and desert options that were far better than expected. Granted, the establishment itself looks pretty run down from the outside(the inside isn’t much better); I’m however, speaking strictly for the food/value. Risk has always been an inherent part of buffets, but Fun Buffet, in my humble estimation has routinely overcome the inadequacies associated with the Buffet experience.

Topping out at $ 11.99 for Friday and Saturday dinner, Fun Buffet is budget-friendly but falls short on some of the easier buffet categories. The pork dumpling had iffy meat. Not in a «this isn’t Berkshire pork» way but something more unpleasant. And fried chicken wings are usually a safe bet, but this time, feathers. And hot and sour soup was congealed.(It’s great that this place is open until 11, but not if the food is already downhill at 9:15.) On the plus side, the clams are fried fish were pretty good and the Szechuan-type hot sauce garnered at least an 8 on the spice scale. The sleeper hit was the string beans, benefiting from strong garlic flavor and crunchy freshness. For dessert, the bananas in red sauce were a simple but effective finale.

Whats not to like in a buffet with a bar? First of all, the name says it all! «FUN» Buffet, yes I had lots of fun eating all the delicious food here. Its not the nicest looking place from the outside! It looks run down! But why judge a book by its cover? The inside is what counts right? The inside of this place is a hidden gem of foods! From Crispy General Tso Chicken, to sweet and sour chicken, chicken nuggets for kids and adults like myself, fried rice, pepper chicken, bbq chicken, shrimp which i dont eat but it looked good, pizza, ALCOHOL, what else??? oh yeah my favorite was dessert which was a zeppoli looking dough with white sugar on top! Wait, maybe it was zeppoli? Anyways, I had 8 of those with coffee. Unbelievable. I left weighing 7 to 8 pound give and take. Disgusting I know. Yeah that was last year for my Uncle’s birthday, but that was during the winter time I think, it was hibernating season for me. Gym was only a few months away. Try this place out, and dont get intimidated by the outside décor.

What do you do during a «hurricane»(uhh…when it rains and the state shuts down shit for no reason)? 1. Guzzle down the 24 Spaten bottles you stockpiled over the winter 2. Put on your Honolua swim trunks and Hollister skully 3. Take out your 5 boro skateboard 4. Get on the nearest highway(which is closed due to inclement weather) 5. Have your roomies tie one end of a bungee cord to their SUV and grab the other end 6. Hold on tight until you make it to a chinese buffet(are these muthafuckas ever closed?) 7. Eat 3 plates of bbq ribs and 5 plates of shrimp fried rice 8. Hold on tight until you make it home so you can vomit
