I have to unhesitatingly give Chiko’s 5 stars, because the food is amazing, and the owners are just great — super-friendly and very warm and welcoming. As other reviewers from this neighborhood have written, this place is an absolute gem. Today we had their always tasty breakfast, and a small sample of their Sunday-only seafood soup. The soup is so good, we’re going back to have it for dinner!

Chiko’s Deli and Grocery, well, more of a deli I guess, is a small understated treasure on Pacific ave. I’ve been there three times now and have always left satisfied. The cuban sandwich is amazing and any of the standard meat plates with rice and beans or plantanos etc. are all well done. The staff is super nice and treated me well, always wanting to explain everything they had. Also, SUPERCHEAP!

On Joel’s recommendation, I tried Chiko’s today for lunch. I had a terrific, generous Cubano sandwich and a can of Coke Zero-and was shocked to hear it cost me a total of $ 5.75! I can’t wait to go back and try other menu items. It’s really a restaurant, not a deli/grocery-they should rework their name. It’s very nicely appointed, tables and a nice counter bar, and very clean. The restroom was spotless. The woman in charge was warm and friendly(and cute!). There is a(lousy) liquor store next door, so I guess it’d be ok to bring in some beers to enjoy with your dinner. I would like a paper menu with prices, the laminated one lacks them-but then again, if everything is as inexpensive as my lunch it may not matter. I’ll update this review as I try more things!

As an 8 year resident of the Lafayette neighborhood, I’ve got to say it gets better every day. While we’re not exactly drowning in new restaurants, one of the best additions to the neighborhood in the last year has been Chiko’s Deli & Grocery. Don’t be fooled by the name, this is a full blown restaurant with amazing Honduran/Latin food and a warm family staff. They’re open morning to night and offer free wifi, so great for those working from home days and great to take meetings. Alma and her family have a great thing going on here, I wish them all the best. P. S. Make sure you get the Cuban, one of the best in JC. Side of garlic mayo is recommended.
