I’m just disappointed. We were going out tonight for Valentine’s Day and we wanted something to hold us until our 9pm dinner date. We ordered shrimp lo mein and chicken wings. The lo mein was okay but the chicken wings were black and looked wrong! How can I feed this to my toddler?! I have posted a picture for proof. *sigh*

This is by far the worst food my boyfriend and I have had. I order from here only because they deliver and have never really been happy with the product but dealt with it but today, my shrimp fried rice was disgusting. It tasted old and was brown. I thought they drenched it with soy sauce but it so bland. My steamed dumplings had pretty much no veggies in it and my boyfriend hated his sesame chicken. He’s not picky at all and will eat anything and he couldn’t even eat more than 2 pieces because he described it as being rocks. We literally through away everything.

We ordered pick up and it took only 20mins to be ready. Everything we ordered was pretty tasty and the potion was big enough for the price. We enjoyed our dinner and we’ll def come back to this place again:)

The lady who picked up the phone is extremely rude. Hung up on me without confirming my order or giving me the total cost. When I called back, she said she will call me back because she needs to fix the computer. Few minutes later, I called back to see what’s happening and she yelled at me and hung up on me. I said to cancel the order and she said she put in the order already? Ridiculous. I’ve ordered here before with good service, but after this, I will never order from here again.

If you eat there it’s OK. Delivery is terrible. Took 1.5 hours to get food. They hung up on me when I tried to find out where food was. Finally came cold. That can’t save even the best Chinese, which this was not.

The woman who answers the phone is an absolute lunatic. Unless you want to be screamed at and hung up on repeatedly, do yourself a favor and get food from somewhere else. The food itself is bland and our delivery order arrived covered in spilled soup. Food King is way better, and the woman that answers the phone is super nice.

This is hands down the best Chinese take out I’ve had in Jersey City. The food is fresh and the veggies are not over cooked. I haven’t ordered beef and broccoli in so long because all the places I’ve ordered from previous to this one have been so bad. This place’s beef is cooked well and doesn’t taste rubbery and gross like all the other places. The beef is fresh thank god ! Also their egg rolls are awesome. This is going to be my go to Chinese spot from here on out.

I ordered takeout on the walk home from the mall on at 9PM on a Saturday night. When I walked in, I didn’t have high hopes for the food as the place was pretty much empty. I ordered the general tsos chicken(white meat only) with a side of the vegetable lo mein. The lead time was 10 minutes. When I got home and opened the food up, it looked delicious and was still pipping hot. The chicken portion was enormous and, after cutting a piece in half, the chicken seemed to be fresh chicken breast tossed with sauce(not the frozen chicken you typically find at Chinese restaurants). It had great flavor with a hint of spice from the chili peppers mixed in. I’d go far to say this was some of the best general tsos I’ve had and I’ve lived in NYC for 5 years. The lo mein was also a solid dish. The noodles were thick and hearty mixed in with all types of veggies(snow peas, broccoli, etc). I’d compare these noodles to Sammy’s lo mein in the west village(which I also highly recommend). I’ve seen some complaints about the customer service here on the phone and, as I walked in, I heard the lady having difficulty taking a phone order. People, please keep in mind that English is a second(or third or fourth) language for other people — sometimes it can be frustrating trying to communicate but it’s worth it in the food that you’ll receive. For now, this is my spot for Chinese takeout in JC — I’d skip dining in.

A Chinese restaurant I actually like! My boyfriend is so happy. He’s always craving Chinese and I never want it. There hasn’t been a go-to Chinese place in JC until we ordered from Big Chef. My boyfriend ordered the wonton soup and chicken & broccoli. I ordered the chicken fried rice. Our delivery came pretty quickly. Usually, when we order delivery, we get our food in an hour, which is crazy. At Big Chef, our order arrived in 30 minutes. My boyfriend ordered from them another time and he said it came in 20 minutes that time. Pretty good considering the average wait time in JC. The wonton soup was delicious. It tasted really good and the crispy noodles made it even better. They were just freshly fried when our order came. My boyfriend really liked his chicken & broccoli. I stole some of the broccoli and I must say, it was delicious, especially with the sauce. My chicken fried rice was much more brown in color than I expected, but that was the only thing I didn’t like about it. I was afraid the color meant that the rice would be drenched in soy sauce and taste salty, but it didn’t. Rice was steamed and soft. Overall, great Chinese place and we will be ordering from here more often!

Young Chow Fried Rice… Chicken with Broccoli oh my !!! Wonderful food — have been eating here for over 14 years. The quality of the ingredients, the taste of the food and the quickness of delivery is the reason why we keep cooking back.

FYI, I am giving a 3.5 star, not 4, but rounded it up because my family likes it. I haven’t actually been to the restaurant, so my review may be a little biased. My sister and I order from this place quite often. I will list what I’ve tried(and remember) and leave a description. –Wonton soup: it’s meh. I lived in Vancouver with A LOT of good Chinese food, so by that standard, it was a bit of a disappointment. –Chicken noodle soup: It’s exactly what you think it is– chicken noodle soup. Nothing special. If you order this for delivery, the noodles will soap up a lot of the liquid. –Young Chow Fried Rice: This is my bro in law’s favorite. He won’t order it from anywhere else. I think it’s pretty decent, but tastes a lot better when you add a little sriracha sauce :) –Most of the chef’s specials were pretty decent. Nothing outta this world, but enjoyed eating it. ***CHOWMEINISNOTCHOWMEIN! There are no noodles in it. It’s just shredded veggies and meat drenched in sauce. It’s yummy, but the name is definitely misleading.

Lately I’ve been disappointed with our two regular Chinese delivery spots. — Lack luster to say the least. We decided to try big chef & what a great decision it was! You can taste the difference in quality after the first bite. All veggie dishes were fresh(still had a crunch, not the typical soggy broccoli) and every dish had its own unique taste — good flavors! Some dishes may be a few extra bucks more then what you’re used to paying, but so worth it for tasty fast Chinese food! And best of all, it’s mother in law approved!

Other than Shanghai Best, this ranks up there, in my humblest of opinions(and there are many opinions), as the top 5 best tasting hot and sour soups in the Jersey City area. While this could use a little more heat to start(I always add the hot mustard to raise the Scovilles just a smidge) the amount of additives is just right for my picky palate. Listen … I could be wrong about the soup. But give it a try. I am not too keen on there other dishes. I don’t like when they tilt the pan to add fire, because of the oil, to the dishes. Not a big fan of my food tasting burned. Bön-e Apa-tee-toe !!!

This is our favorite Chinese food in Jersey City and Hoboken. We have been looking food good, inexpensive Chinese food since we moved to the area 3 years ago. Over those 3 years we have lived in Hoboken and Jersey City, we could always find a good deal but had a hard time finding good Chinese food. Well this is it ladies and gentlemen. For your typical cheap Chinese takeout, Big Chef is the best. Yes eating there is like eating at any other Chinese restaurant, the food is delish and inexpensive. We usually order the same thing, because we’re boring not because there isn’t enough options, the garlic chicken and pork lo mein, hot and sour soup, dumplings. Everything is always so good. Definitely try it out!

This place is pretty decent: we always do the same things: fried dumplings, scallion pancakes… the wide flat noodles with broccoli and chicken, and general tso’s chicken. A few times, the GT chicken came a bit extra-crispy, but other than that, its the standard chinese food. Unlike other people, we havent had any issues with delivery — they always call us when they arrive and its been easy to grab the food, sit and eat while its still hot
