If you’re not a Bengali then do your research about Bengali treats before coming here. Nothing on the menu is in English. The employees speak little English and aren’t able to explain to you what the meals/desserts are.

I am not sure what these rave reviews are all about. Having read all the reviews, decided to try out this place this afternoon. The food was mediocre at the best and I ended up with an upset stomach. The Bagara Baingan had raw Egg Plant and the Okra was uncooked as well. The Good: Samosa, Chutneys, Rotis, Baby Gulab Jamuns(I like to call them Babloo Jamuns ;-)) The Average: Dal, Biryani(More like veggie fried rice), Malai Kofta, Dosa The Ugly: Bagara Baingan, Fried Okra, Kadhi, Papad(Looked like what a Mother-In-Law will serve the Daughter-In-Law) Done with this place. What a disgrace! Soul Verdict: Fail Belly Verdict: Fail Wallet Verdict: $

i keep coming back to this place every saturday night for buffet even though i stay near edison, nj which is like more than half an hour drive… need i say more? :) …the best vegetarian buffet place you will find in US(they have dinner buffet too) …and the food is made homestyle, not oily like in many indian restaurants… moreover, my wife is not a vegetarian, nor an indian… but she also loves the food here!!!

We finally found a place that serves the most amazing and rich speciality from Rajasthan… Dal Baati! Although I didn’t have too much expectation since I was happy enough to find a place that serves it, to my surprise, it tasted like heaven!!! I would say that the place doesn’t appear too appealing from outside, but don’t go on how it looks if that’s not too important! The best thing is that They have the food that I’ve tasted closest to home ie not unlike too rich or oily food, just plain simple hot fresh chapatis, crisp n tender dosas, and a wide variety of Indian sweets! I’m not the best one to comment on sweets but I’ll say this, you should definitely try eating here and esp for the prices they have! Unbelievable!!! To add, they have vey gracious and welcoming people who serve you In a very warm manner! I’m gonna definitely go again there!

Good Indian food for very reasonable rates. Indoor seating is limited(around 8 tables) so be ready to sit outdoors(before you get your hopes up, it is just a bunch of chairs lined up outside while you wait to get in). Given the limited seating they have reduced prices for takeout. They have a buffet for $ 8 on weekends that is awesome.(The weekday lunch buffet is cheaper.) It isn’t a lavish spread but most of the stuff is good. When I say most, I have felt some items could do with a little less oil. The weekend buffet also comes with a masala dosa which is not available on weekdays. There is a $ 20 minimum for cards, so make sure you are carrying cash.

The food was delicious! I went for dinner time and they had a dinner buffet. The food was all legit and tasty. The best though was the masala dosa. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a dosa. Overall a great restaurant and awesome service. Check it out!

I often buy take out from there which costs $ 5. They give 1 vegetable curry, 2 butter roti(chapati), dal, rice, salad, pickel. They have the best thali on newark avenue in jersey city. Always gives fresh food. I have ate there so many times and only had 1 bad incident ie. hair in my food.

If you are craving for home cooked food this is the place for you. I love phulkas at this place. On Last weekend of every month they serve daal baati. The only problem is its a small place so it gets congested. But it compensates with good hospitality.

The service at Bengali Sweet House is always, no pun intended, sweet, and their great selection of sweets(especially their incredible malai sandwiches) give us a moment of bliss. A great little treasure at the end of Newark Avenue /Little India.

Great buffet style food for reasonable price. Definitely go for that and their sweets are amazing. This place is perfect for vegetarians. You will probably never find parking on that street though. There is a sign that said«credit card payments under $ 20 are extra charge of $ 2.» I’d definitely recommend this place as I often end up getting take out of the lunch boxes they offer.

When you are super hungry and craving for non greasy, home style food then Bengal Sweets is the place. Make a note I am referring to buffet here . Don’t mislead by Bengal name, this place is run by Gujrati onwer(if you taste daal of this place, you will realize this. Sweet in taste). Despite that, it’s an awesome place. Food is not spicy and Indian bread they make fresh and serve on table. Occasionally I got to have unlimited Dosa which for me was always a super deal. I bet you no one can $ 8 price for Indian buffet. I chose to give 4 stars for only 1 reason which is ambience. I dare you if you think of bringing your girlfriend or wife for dinner/lunch at this place, if you happen to then God bless you. Enough said, this is a place with authentic home style Indian food for big appetite.

Came here to get some Indian sweets. My family is ethnically Bengali, so had to make a visit. I was not disappointed. However, if you are not an expert on Indian sweets, the selections might be overwhelming. So be careful what you order. Some will be a hit, while others might be a huge mistake.

I came here to buy modaks(an Indian sweet) for a holiday. They didn’t have the ones I was hoping to buy, which are a crispy almost empenada like shell fileld with sweetened coconut, which was somewhat expected and actually good as my aunt ended up making them. However, they did have a lot of other sweets including pedas shaped liked modaks(see ). I bought those as well as a couple of other Indian sweets. I am not a huge fan of burfis/Indian sweets but these were pretty good. I would definitely be back as they have a good selection, package things nicely, and accept credit cards(for things over $ 10). Prices are $ 8 – 10 per pound which is slightly more than the average prices I’ve seen which tend to be around $ 8.

This review is purely about their lunch buffet. Bengali sweet house is interestingly run by Gujarati folks who serve Indian sweets besides Gujarati vegetarian lunches. The food tastes as if straight from one’s home. The waiters pamper you with as many rotis as you want, until your stomach can’t hold any more. The spread is pretty good, in fact excellent for the price. They’d have some different dish/dessert every time I go there. At $ 8 for a weekend buffet(even less on weekdays at $ 6), this is an absolute steal and I’d recommend it to everyone.

My husband thinks they deserve 5 stars! They have a buffet for $ 6 on the weekdays for lunch serving food that tastes like it was made at home! I also love that they say they will charge you for wasting food! So they care about their food. Had i known the food was primarily food from the state of Gujarath, i would have been here sooner. The sweet dal– staple in almost every meal from that state was Excellent. Lilva Katchori–(appetizer) was really the best I’ve had in the country. The okra was good too. The best were the fresh phulkas(roti– bread). They are soft, fresh and still go from the stove. I am not giving them 5 because I didn’t care for the paneer vegetable, Kadi, sweet on the buffet. Will be back soon!

A really great, inexpensive vegetarian delight. The lunch buffet is a perfect everyday place to go. I asked for a mixed box of sweets. The ladies took pleasure in describing the various treats as they selected them. My friends and I gobbled them up in ecstasy. So good! I had not had many south asian sweets and am now a chubbier, happier person for discovering this spot. tip: there is a $ 5 surcharge if you don’t clean your plate, so it is better to go back for seconds than to be greedy! This is a humble establishment, not a great restaurant, but the experience is very pleasant, and the workers are very kind. The food is very tasty.

There are a whole lot sweet houses on newark avenue(Little India) as it is knows as. One day I was craving for the Indian sweets so decided to give this place a try. The spot right at the end of the Indian street, it has decent space to sit and eat too. Apart from sweets they carry and serve staple indian snack items. I took a box of sweets to go, went with different kinds of sweets. Had the Gulab Jamun, Rasgolla, Mango barfi, Cham Cham. Overall it was just okay, I liked Mango Barfi the most apart from that everything was on the dry side. My quest for an awesome Indian sweet shop is still on!
