Jerome Country Market

Stopped here during the US12 garage sale. I was pleasantly surprised! Great selection of jerky. Assorted flavors and types-​beef, pork, venison, elk. I went with the chili cheese it was very good. 5 sticks for $ 4.99.

The Unilocal map & address are wrong. The correct address is 8985 E Chicago Rd, Jerome, MI 49 249. (Actually part of US-​12.) A Unilocal moderator rejected my proposed changes. Go figure. I’ve been there, this other person hasn’t.
You’ll find this place along US-​12 just a stone’s throw west of Round Lake Road and a few miles east of the tiny town of Moscow, MI.
It’s on the south side of US-​12 and comes up a bit fast. Just watch for the huge deer statue. There was a meat smoker out front when I visited.
Inside there are some cute gift items, wines, a lot of packaged foods (jams & jellies, mustards, salsas & other condiments) plus a meat counter where you can grab some fresh meat for tonight’s dinner, such as bacon, pork chops, seasoned chicken breasts, and ground beef. They also have a frozen meat section and one freezer just for all the brat varieties.
Most of the food items seem to be made in Michigan, which is a plus. You could even fill a basket with Michigan-​made items as a gift for someone who loves to cook.
I think the minimum purchase to use a credit card was $ 5, but it’s easy to do better than that at this place. So many nice things there. And the people working there that day were very friendly. I had a nice visit, and I’ll be back for more.

After spending a day at the Hillsdale County Fair with my sisters and mom. We made a special side trip to go this market as we did last year. We were intending on shopping there. I walked in with an empty water bottle after not finding a trash can outside and asked them if they had a wastebasket. The clerk said no they didn’t. Somewhat surprised, I carried the bottle around and my sisters asked me why I was still carrying it. I told them and we all decided to leave without spending a dime. None of us will ever return to this business… no sense going to a place that is lacking in customer service!

I went here for the first time having heard about it for years.
It’s fantastic. Great meat. Great people. I wish it were closer to Ann Arbor.
I bought a tri-​tip roast that was marinated in a pepper-​something rub and it was a fantastic piece of meat.
I also bought a slew of venison, elk and beef jerky. They were all outstanding — not overly salty. The best I’ve had — and I like some jerky.
Nice drive down Michigan Avenue and worth a trip.

Their beef jerkey ingredient list reads more like a science experiment than food. Among the normal stuff on the list-​salt, sugar, dry jalapeño, etc– you will also find such undesirables like hydrolised soy protein, caramel color, fd&c red #3,yellow 5, sodium silico aluminate, silicon dioxide… The list goes on. Over time, foods of this (unnatural) nature cause serious health problems, including various forms of cancer. It is supposed to be beef jerkey, why do the ingredients read like this?
