My son’s haven’t played much golf, but had been asking me to take them. I was concerned that they mainly wanted to drive the golf cart at break neck speeds, and that was, of course, part of it. But for $ 25 with cart at twilight rates, this seemed like a good opportunity to introduce them, so we headed out at 4:00. Carts need to be back by 8:15. We played the Pine Lakes course, but there are two other 18 hole courses, and a 9 hole as well. I was hoping for 18 holes, so we played best ball throughout the hole. With a 12, 14 and 16 year old, all on their first real course, we only got in 9 holes. But what a 9 holes they were. Deer who were so accustomed to humans that you basically had to scare them off the golf course with your cart. 6 foot alligators resting lazily along the bank of the lake. I got within about 15 feet of one and snapped a great picture. I saw a bald eagle hurtling down like a rock to take a fish, and my son beamed, «Hey, he’s a better fisherman than you, Dad.» When we made it back at 8:10, there was a flock of buzzards on the driving range. It’s a public course, and the fairways weren’t pristine, but it was great for kids. My kids can’t wait for the next time I take them golfing.
