I really like this place but I’d say 50% of the time the service is TERRIBLE. The food is usually super though, so it’s worth trekking to Janesville for!

Cracker Barrel used to be a solid choice. It has changed. All the food just tastes highly processed and thrown together – not from scratch cooking. It takes a lot to make basic breakfast food taste bland yet somehow they pulled it off. I got eggs and biscuits. The biscuits are pretty decent but the gravy lacked any real flavor and the grits were runny and bland. The sausage patties have a fake smoke induced flavor. Do yourself a favor and try a local mom and pop if you want breakfast this place has gone total commercial. They also sit people on top of each other when they have a ton of empty tables.

We really liked this place. Our server was really nice, our food came out quickly, everything was delicious, and our kids ate all of their food — I think that speaks for itself. Down one star for the over abundance of air fresheners near the bathroom. My nose is fried.

I can’t even give this place a star but Unilocal is making me give them one. The service was abysmal. I asked a question and they responded horribly, they laughed and continued to give us glares all night. The manager was nice and so was our waitress but there were multiple other workers that were not nice to us. On top of that the food was quite unsatisfactory. I would NEVER come again, and would recommend for you not to as well.

it’s rare that I choose to eat breakfast in a restaurant, but when I do I crave one thing: a good skillet. guess what? cracker barrel doesn’t have skillets. the breakfast menu is basically like this: eggs. eggs with pancakes. eggs with meat. eggs with pancakes and meat. wow, very creative, guys. so, I ordered a plate of hashbrown casserole. hey, I do enjoy some good hashbrowns. but what I got was a small plate of cheesy potatoes. undercooked and tasting suspiciously like they came from a box with «Betty Crocker» on the label. my wifes meal was better, I guess. the eggs tasted like eggs and the pancakes with the tiny little bottles of syrup tasted like pancakes. the dinners aren’t much better. they sound like good old fashioned home cooked types of meals. but everything comes out bland and tasteless and the veggies always taste like they came from a can. and, to kick a man while he’s down, you get to listen to country music the whole time you are eating.

Chicken and dumplings were served on a plate with vegetables and the plate was full of oil and butter.
This is the 10th time I have eaten at this particular location, first time it was so bad…

I’m not sure what i can say about cracker barrel that hasn’t already been said… especially by me and my other reviews of various Cracker Barrel’s. Food is the same quality and still served hot and fast. The store has alot of the same style goods. The people are friendly and the prices are affordable.

I love that you can always expect the same thing wherever you are. No where else can I get turnip greens in WI. Always a treat. Not mention the awesome warm fire to stand beside before heading back out into the cold and snow. I’m a fan.

Food was standard Cracker Barrel food. Just fine. My issue was elsewhere. First, the waitress brought individual cups of cream for coffee, and one of the three was empty, like it was from a previous customers table. Then we were told about the fantastic sweet potato casserole with the crunchy pecan topping. Sounded yummy, so we ordered it. It came cold, without the actual pecan topping. Like they scraped out the last of the pan just for us. Then, to top it all off, the bathrooms were filthy! Like the worst gas station bathroom you ever walked out of. I went from stall to stall to pick out the best of the bad that I could clean up enough myself to hover over. Yuk! Never again! There were 4 people standing around in the store area doing nothing while the bathrooms looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in two weeks.

Maybe it was the time of day, but we did not experience the slowness mentioned by the other reviewer. In fact, I didn’t even have time to figure out the peg game on the table & our food had arrived! Chicken & Dumplings was delicious! Our waitress suggested we go with biscuits & she was right! Side of carrots were good, pass on the green beans.

Excellent pancakes — haven’t had any better pancakes anywhere is the US. If you like cherry pie I highly recommend the cherry pancakes. It’s always a treat when we visit Wisconsin.
The country store is charming and has a lot of fun and nostalgic games, candy, and pancake mix for sale. They have the best Christmas and Halloween decorations during the holidays!

Very big portions and fast service. The chicken tastes delicious and the corn bread was spot on. They have a little store next to the establishment and they have some old fashion rocking chairs for sale. I wouldn’t mind coming back here again since it’s right next to the freeway, and it beats out eating the same other restaurants such as Mcdonalds, Burger King, or Taco Bell.

I am really starting to despise the CB franchise. They are all the same and not in a good way. The food has gone downhill, the service is lackluster, and everything is bumping up in price. It’s just not great, and I really hope I don’t have to be exposed to any more CB shenanigans…

Wanting to have a good breakfast my family and I headed out to have breakfast here. I have been to other Cracker Barrel’s in other town but never this one. We were sat down immediately and our waitress was great. As for the food it was decent. I think it is hard to mess up breakfast (but I am sure someone has before). The restaurant was clean and I know the bathrooms were clean because as usual one of my kids had to use the bathroom. This is a place that I can see us going back to again.

They have great breakfast menu with grits, biscuits and gravy all the good southern foods! Pretty cheap too!
I got the country fried chicken with 2 eggs, regular hasbrowns and biscuits and gravy. Pass on the grits, it tasted like paste.
DH got the biscuits, eggs over easy, cheesey hashbrowns and bacon. He said pass on the cheesey hashbrowns.
Good service, great gift shop with old tyme gifts and items and candy!
