I took my «checkride» or test for my pilot’s license here during Memorial Day Weekend. AND I PASSED! Wooo hooo. This tempted me to give the airport 5-stars, but it’s really more of a 4-star airport. The staff and linemen at the airport were incredibly helpful, understanding of the nerves involved in a checkride and did a great job fueling up the airplanes and just being very pleasant. As an airport to fly into(if you’re a pilot), Jamestown is a 4⁄5: a) intersecting runways — useful to pick with conflicting winds(+) b) The fuel is on the more expensive side(-) c) Restaurant right at the airport. Decent diner food(+) d) Maintenance shop on field. Useful if you need anything looked at(+) e) Awesome staff and hassle free parking(no fees)(+) I’ve never been here for any commercial service, but it’s a very small airport and probably has one or two scheduled flights a week. I see small FedEx planes flying in and out of here all the time. I’ve heard the airport may have a courtesy car, but I’ve never asked to use it before. The airport is situated right next to Chautauqua Lake and is quite picture-esque. It’s definitely a worthwhile flight if you’re buzzing around the area, want to try some airport diner food, practice some ILS approaches, etc.

Chautauqua County Airport is a small regional airport having very little commercial traffic. The air traffic control for it is located way over in Erie, Pennsylvania and flying in or out of it during the winter months gets to be somewhat white knuckle and iffy side of things. However, to its credit it is the only airport with plenty of free parking and, unlike other large airports, friendly and rather hassle free. I usually fly in by private plane as commercial connections to or from it are constantly changing and are generally not very good or for that matter even existent. For the most part it’s a taxpayer support waste since the much larger Buffalo/Niagara Falls Airport is only 60 miles away. Hence, really unnecessary for use by the everyday traveler. The interior of it is sparklingly clean and has some rather interesting displays for local attractions such as for the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History. Overall, for a small regional airport, I like it and for the area within which it is located, is far better than the Bradford/Olean airport or the cow pasture of a landing strip located in nearby Warren, Pennsylvania.
