Excellent food. They always have a large variety of items in the steamer trays ready to go.

Best what are you kidding me. Is your family writing the reviews our food was horrible. Over cooked. We had the combo special and yuca with cod fish. Omg horrible. Even the soda they got wrong. No green sauce. Know here is icing on the cake we all woke up with stomach aches and throwing up this morning. Thanks la cocina. $ 30 down the drain.

Ordered from Grubhub for dinner. They called me right away(thankfully) to tell me they didn’t have any rotisserie chicken or rice and peas. I ordered: Fried pork chops — meat was very bland, overcooked and blah. Empanadas– nice trio(beef, chicken and cheese) Yellow rice– might as well have been plain white rice for the zero flavor it had Beef stew– delicious Beans — Delicious Tres leches — stale Passion fruit juice– TOTALLYSPOILED. It had been sitting out all day the acid started to break down and by the time it got to me it was just sour sour spoiled juice. Stop that please. Other really successful Dominican spots in NY accept that they do the bulk of their business during rush hour lunch and then as the hours dwindle down, plate up whatever’s remaining in take out containers, clean the kitchen and sell the plates at a reduced cost to walk-ins. Don’t get on sites like Grubhub if you can’t actually fulfill orders.

Word of advice. It is best to call the restaurant to find out what lunch special they have for the day then ordering via online sites like grubhub or seamless. Out of the 2 times online site were used both time the restaurant workers had to call me to tell me that it was not available. However, it’s a decent Dominican restaurant. Food was good and portions is what you expect. I can eat a lunch portion for lunch + dinner. I usually order the chicken stew with yellow rice skipping the beans with extra chicken stew sauce. It is good, nice flavor. The beef stew was kind of dry. Pernil is good when fresh, oxtail stew is great when available. I am still waiting to get my grub on with their patitas but every time I try to order they never have it.

So I decided to go back and I ordered green bananas, yuca and pernil which cost 8 dollars like I said before they are very cheap with the meat but this time my plate was full of fatty skin and 3 pieces of meat what a disappointment! That plate was not worth $ 8 I will not go back there again!

The food here is ok. I mean I’ve experienced better spanish food, but my god delivery is a nightmare. They would forget to include some of the items I ordered and when I called to complain they insisted they put in the bag. Once I ordered just two drinks alone and it took over an hour to come and they’re only a few blocks away from my street.

This is the place where I satisfy my need for regular intake of Dominican food. They give very good portions, with good flavor, at a good price. Their lunch specials are a deal to take. I’m a regular with the rice, beans and pernil! Roasted chicken and pollo guisado(stewed chicken) are good options too!

Walked into La Cocina at 9am ready to chow down on one of their several lunch special items that were already prepared during breakfast hours :) I used to always pass by this restaurant when I lived in Queensvillage — the signs for the Mofongo caught my eye… I finally walked in one day to try an empanada and the Roast Pork and I fell in love! The Modongo(Tripe Stew) has great flavor and is super tender!

I order lunch from here once in a while. Their lunch specials are great they have a good variety and their flavor beats any of the other dominican joints in the area. They have breakfast as well and a variety of options on the but i mostly stick to the lunch specials. The arroz con gandules is very tasty and the oxtail stew is just too good. If you work or live near by give this place a try.
