One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Great service, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly patrons.

Service was honestly terrible the owner was very rude. Even before I arrived I called them to ask for specials for that day and they hung up on me … The food was ok nothing crazy. I wouldn’t go back unless I want some non expensive food. I wouldn’t go on a date there or no special occasion because the vibes there was bad

Great food and excellent service. We came for lunch and had steak on the stone which came with salad, bread and olives. The waiter was very helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was very good. The steak was really good and I came with french fries and rice. The prices are very good. We will definitely come back again. The place only has a few tables and a really long bar. The TVs at the bar played a soccer game This is a great neighborhood spot.

Came here for Mother’s Day 2016. Mom and I returned a rental at JFK and made B line to the highest reviewed restaurant in the area. They had ample seating and well grilled flavored meats! The sides are tossed in but just as yummy as the center piece. Local family flare and jugs of Sangria make me happy. Mom thinks it’s awesome!

On our way to JFK, we were in the mood for something good. Found this place on Unilocal with a bunch of good reviews. Well deserved reviews! Nice Portuguese family place. We had the Chorizo flame cooked at the table. smokey goodness. I had the Steak on a Stone. One of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. My partner had the Seafood medley in the red sauce. Fantastic. Service was great and friendly. Prices were fantastic! Definitely a gem in Jamaica. It’s a very easy on/off from the Van Wyck so if your headed to the airport and have some time, it’s worth the stop. If I lived in Jamaica I’d be here all the time.

So first off the presentation and the vibe of the place is so pleasant. It’s a family style restaurant with great service and nice staff! So first they give you warm bread, a great salad and olives before you even order drinks, and speaking of drinks omg! The tropical sangria is so tasty. I had the steak on a stone which should be called steak out of this world lol. It’s so flavorful and tender. My boyfriend had the Portuguese dinner which came with so many sides. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will be going back. It’s great for dates and large party dinners

I guess they only cater to their kind of people. Went here with my boyfriend this past weekend and honestly the service could’ve been WAY better. Our initial«server» was very unfriendly and unwelcoming. When asked what would he recommend from the menu I got a dry«everything». Asked about a drink menu/cocktail list got a «No mixed drinks» lol okay… What turned me off about the place was that A. we were the only black people there in a predominantly black neighborhood(which I can now see why) B. Everyone else was greeted with smiles and laughs while we got a standoffish attitude as if we did something wrong. The food was okay. A second server guy came and took over serving us. he was cool & friendly. Would not recommend(unless you’re Portuguese lol I’m sure you’ll be welcomed there) Will not be returning.

I came here optimistic because of the great reviews, but I have to say I was dissapointed. The service was bad as soon as we walked in, no one greeted us and we had to find a waiter to ask if we can sit at an empty table Complimentary bread and salad was promptly served and my optimism returned!.. But then was dissapointed again when we were sadly ignored, when I had enough and got the attention of the waiter he literally said«Oh you want to order» wtf? No what would you like to drink? We got two orders of «steak on a rock», which was a cool experience having a steak cook infront of us on the«rock» — hence the 3 stars. The manager did come over and explain the best way to eat the steak but that was it. Water was never refilled etc Bad service and that’s that. This place is run much more like a bar then a restaurant and cannot juggle the two. **Uodate: The manager reached out to me to apologize and for obtain further feedback which shows his interest in customer satisfaction. They were training new employees the day I was there. I’ll give it another shot next time I’m in the mood for some steak on the rock.

Foods great. Flavorful fast service and pleasant staff. Bar is pretty close to the dining area and the sangria was soooooooo good. They even offered a free refill but after my first mug I was really good boyfriend loved the steak on the stone and my sister enjoyed her seafood pasta. My fish was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. Loved it will be returning soon.

The food was great. Bae got steak on the rocks and the steak cooked nice and slow and it was delicious. The waiter helped us cut the steak and he helped us figure out how to cook it too. The staff are somewhat friendly and helpful. I never heard of eggs on steak until today and I was very impressed. There was something special in the sauce because the meal would’ve been just average without it. I recommend this restaurant!

Nice place to kill some time near LIRR. We had the steak on rocks. It had good flavor. Not sure about the quality of steak but it got the job done. I would like to come back and try the paella. There is a bar with lots of tv screens for you sports fans. The place is cozy… The price is reasonable. Service was good but intermittent.

Ate there twice over a period of 2 weeks. In my group, Steak on a Hot Rock was a big hit. It was a generous inch thick NY Strip, well marbled and aged to fork tender perfection. Steak and Shrimp skewer was the same beef, only split and a served on a stainless rod with 2 large head on shrimp. Once again, well done. Picanya special was a cut of sirloin, again, well aged and tender. Don’t expect a lot of frills or glamourous presentation, just good food done well. Only complaint was it would be nice to have some veg for sides, most dishes are served with rice. Tiramisu is the bomb, and makes a nice pairing for a glass of port, or some 1920 brand Portuguese brandy(see below) Service was mixed, we sat at the bar both visits. First visit we were served by a very soft voiced, good looking young lady who was reasonably attentive, and did a fair job keeping our glasses full. However when I asked for a menu of the Ports and Sherrys available, she seemed like a deer in the headlights, and brought me 3 bottles of «house’ port to choose from. Kind of disappointing, as I was hoping to try one of the LBV’s I saw on the liquor step in the back bar… At the end of the visit, we met with the co-owner, Chris, who was very easy to talk too, and filled us in on the history of the place, menu, and even gave us a good taste of what he called«Portuguese Cognac» which was a brandy called 1920. It was full of vanilla and crème brulet flavor, and went well with the tiramisu. I wish we would have had as good of a service experience when we went back. Second visit we were initially served by a gruff, foreign sounding guy, who seemed like we were an annoyance to him serving some Hispanic friends of his on the other end of the bar. Considering we had ordered some higher priced fare, and they were eating chicken wings, I found it odd that he would blow off the larger bill… While their glasses always got filled, ours sat empty repeatedly, until the soft voiced gal from our prior visit picked up the slack. All said and done, great food, in an area where things can be a bit hit or miss…

The steak on rock was so good. We also ordered grill chicken plate. The portion of the chicken was so huge for 8 bucks. It was enough for 2 people. The sangria was also good. Worth to try here. Will come back soon

My girlfriend and I came here when we were seeing the Diwali Motorcade in November. We were both medium hungry so we shared a fantastic«steak on rock», which is basically a steak that is served sizzling on a fiery hot stone. The steak was 1) very well flavored(one of the finest steaks I’ve had in the city), and 2) very well cooked to our instructions. If it weren’t so far out of Manhattan, I’d go every week. It’s well-priced, and a quality family establishment.

super authentic old school Portuguese restaurant/bar in a neighborhood which used to be very Portuguese and still has a community although many moved to Long Island and the neighborhood is now a mix of some Portuguese with a lot of Jamaicans and other groups. The food is wonderful. They have an extensive menu and a good selection of Portuguese wines, beers, and liqueurs. Good place to hang out and watch sports, friendly chill casual atmosphere. I discovered this place by accident when detouring the Van Wyke Never-Express-Way on the way from JFK and it was a very pleasant surprise. Friendly staff, easy place to hang out for hours.
