I’m stunned by the review of 7⁄23. I’ve been shopping at Hatched since it first opened and I’ve been nothing but impressed by the knowledge and help I’ve received from the owner. The products are organic and beautiful and not more expensive than the GAP despite the far superior quality of Hatched offerings. I’ve never had a problem with sizing or the service and it’s a wonderful place if you’re looking for the perfect baby present. My advice, ignore the negative and go to Hatched. It’s a wonderful store owned by an independent local proprietor who has earned the loyalty of her customers through her products and service. Megan M

I visited the store last week during the heat wave. There wasn’t any AC, and the inventory seemed sparse. I told the saleswoman(the owner, I presume?) that I wanted a dress for a 6 month year old. The saleswoman handed me a dress ythat said 9M. I repeated the age of the child, saying she was born in February, and she told me that the sizes weren’t accurate because they are European. I hesitated, but what do I know? I’m not a mom. At the check out, she told me the dress was non-returnable. I said that was OK, but could I come swap a smaller size if this one was too big. She said, «oh it definitely won’t be too big». Then I came an hour or so later, asking for the diaper cover that matched the dress. She said she only had 6 month size, but she was sure it would fit. What?! I need a 9M dress and a 6M bottom? I left. I gave the dress to babies’ mother. Oh, it’s so cute she said, but a little big. I just smiled and cursed the saleswoman in my head. The baby will be 9 months in November, so she’ll never get to wear the dress. The only excuse I can think of is this store is closing down and she was desperate to sell the things that are left.

Great store! Their concentration is on babies, but they certainly do have a good(though small) variety of clothes/basics for older children. I really liked that they had quite a number of European brands and a large offering of organic cotton clothing. There is also a good selection of toys that are organic/ethically made. As someone who really made an effort to raise a baby(she’s now a toddler) in cloth diapers with well made bright wooden toys and clothes, I found myself saying«we have that» quite a few times while looking around(especially the toy section). I wish I had made the trek out to Hatched earlier so I didn’t have to spend hours looking for all of this stuff online. Now that I found it, I’ll definitely be back! It’s also pretty great that they have a corner with toys where kids can play while you’re looking around. My only complaint is that they are so very far away from downtown. Otherwise, wonderful store!

I shop here all the time, and get compliments on everything that I buy! Prices are high, but I know that I am getting what I pay for. My daughter’s last two favorite pairs of shoes came from hatched. She needs wide-toed shoes for her poor little feet, and Hatched carries options that are natural, handmade, orthopedic, and very stylish! People have stopped me on the street to ask where I found them, and I even recently was introduced to someone who remembered seeing us on the subway… because she remembered my daughter’s shoes! The toys are great, too. Organic dolls, art supplies, and sustainable wood sets are just a few of the amazing finds. I have bought basically every baby and early birthday gift from here for the past two years. The kids and parents on the receiving end always love them. The staff is also awesome! Very helpful and knowledgeable about what they are selling. We once tried on about 6 pairs of shoes trying to find the right fit. There is a play corner set up to keep the little ones busy while you shop. Overall, I love Hatched, and my daughter does, too!

Hatched is a really cute little baby store right over by the Blue Frog. She closes hella early, but if you’ve got any friends who’ve plopped out a newborn(or you’ve done so yourself), you owe it to yourself to swing through here if you’re in the neighborhood. They have a fantastic selection of baby /newborn clothes, most of it in organic cotton so you can feel all Earth Mothery and natural. They also have a neat selection of baby and toddler toys, most of them in that funky wood-toy style the Nordic countries dig so much. I also noticed a decent selection of gifts and goods for the Mother(lotions, etc), because why should Baby get all the presents and fun stuff when the Mother’s doing all the damn work? That’s one of the nice things about the store. It keeps it «organic» and«natural» without coming across as *too* hippytastic or yuppiefied.
