Ordered the salmon Alfredo(on special). It was enough food to feed a small family and so delicious! I finished the whole thing. No regrets!

We’ve been eating at the Galway since way back when… back when smoking in restaurants and bars was still allowed. The Galway has kept it’s neighborhood charm and food quality over the years. The Galway has always attracted a healthy share of old-timers, long time residents like us and plenty of new comers. The food is straight forward and simple, the traditional preparations feel like home cooking’ at home cooking prices. Ya gotta love a good olé fashioned cheese burger, turkey or ham and cheese club sandwich with a pile of thick cut fries or onion rings. No frills but affordable, generous, filling and tasty plate. Love the Jr. Sirloin, honey fried chicken, all the fried or broiled seafood, chowder. They also offer a pretty decent assortment of daily specials. I’m never disappointed at the Galway and never surprised by my check total. A great place for a hearty lunch or dinner at a really reasonable price.

I’ve been here on more than one occasion and the food is good, but the service can be a hit or miss(and maybe with the food as well… just having to return a couple of dishes once). Otherwise, big portions and fine environment, so come with big appetites — Not bad at all.

Neighborhood Pub with decent food and serves late. Great place to catch up with friends. Bartenders are very friendly and know their guests by name.

This is normally a reliable, tasty and very friendly restaurant. Tonight, the bar woman made it thoroughly unpleasant. I never sit at the bar but I did because the place was packed. The bartender barely acknowledged me when I sat down, was chilly when I made a mistake in a question about a special and ignored me once she dropped my dinner in front of me. Maybe she would have been nicer had I ordered booze. The meat was overlooked and the baked potato cold but I never had the chance to tell her because she never came back. When I finally flagged her down, she agreed it was too done but said the meat continued to cook in the au jus. Perhaps if the food been hot or even warm but it was barely warmer than the cold baked potato. She offered me a replacement but there was none at the proper«doneness» level. Then, she gave me a bill for the side dishes but took it back when I protested about the cold potato and untouched vegetable. Had she been more than barely tolerant of me, I would not have written this review because this is a nice neighborhood place. However, it was hard to sit by and watch as she was sweetness and light to the men around me. It took great skill to change her expression and tone of voice when she spoke to me.

I have no idea how to rate Galway House. It’s a dive bar that’s not too dive. The food is simple but very comforting and consistently good. They don’t reach too far, but they don’t screw up either. The staff is great, but it’s because they are nice people and they really hustle. The bar is well stocked and will keep you going all night long without ever disappointing, but there’s nothing too exotic or that unusual. TVs on the wall will keep you up on whatever score you care about, and no one cares about how you are dressed. It’s nothing remarkable and yet totally awesome.

Hands down the only pub I know of that will serve you a very delicious dinner, in a timely fashion. I mean the food is and has always been consistently amazing. I’ll eat here even when im not even drinking, solely for the food. The kitchen staff always does such a great job and there are always specials on the menu. You never know what your going to find. It surprised me one day when I saw the Rack of Lamb on the menu last year and it was phenomenal. The bartenders also make very good, very stiff drinks. Totally a JP staple, visit if you get the chance.

Never in my life have I received such horrible service. And hardly ever do I write bad reviews. We were in town visiting some friends and after a night of drinking we decided to stop by & have some late night eats, as this place was highly recommended by our local friends. We sat at the bar and ordered some food. The bartender asks us what we would like to drink and we order some waters. And that’s where it started… the bartender pretty much kicks us out of the bar. He proceeds to give us a hard time about ordering waters, literally saying«you don’t sit at the bar to order food, that doesn’t pay my bills». And no, he was not being sarcastic. After we told him we would just take the food to go, he said«it’s nothing personal». I was in shock. So we left… just got up and left. I don’t think this is the norm, but it sucks that this particular bartender ruined it for us. If you come here late night, I guess you have to drink if you’re gonna sit at the bar.

So my friend and I drove not knowing exactly where we were going to eat in JP one night and we decided on the Galway House. We are glad we did. We both started out with the clam chowder. He’s a picky eater and he thought the clam chowder was the best he has ever eaten. It was really good. Much better than Legal’s. He got the salmon which he said was delicious and I got the fried clams with the belly. They give you so much food! The clams were delicious and not greasy at all. The service was really good the waitress very friendly. I will be back.

A great neighborhood bar in Jamaica Plain. The décor is a weird mixture of holiday decorations. We noted bunny ears, shamrocks, fake cobwebs, and Christmas ornaments all behind the bar. The food was excellent and completely hit the spot. I got the fish sandwich and it was huge. The tartar sauce was delicious. I also tried a bite of their chowder and thought it was really good. The friend that we went with said that the food is always good but not always consistent. I can’t speak for this since I’ve only been in one time. The menu is large with a nice variety. The bartender recommended their seafood. If I ever make it back to Boston, I’ll be sure to bring my husband to this bar!

The images all look great but I have to give a two star this time. The shrimp salad just doesn’t look fresh this time. There waiter forgot that I don’t want red/yellow pepper, which is fine I can just pick them out. The chicken finger was fine.

The Galway house is like your favorite sweater: cozy, worn in, and comfortable. I love this place because it reminds me of a divey bar & restaurant I’d find in my home state of Wisconsin. There’s wood paneling on all the walls, year-round Christmas ornaments hanging from the ceiling, cheap beer, very friendly staff and HUGE portions. The portions though, seriously. You’ll order one meal and have at least one more for leftovers. Most meals come with bread, soup or salad, a main course and two very generous sides. The waitresses will tell you that virtually no one ever makes it to dessert. Suggestions: — Homemade ranch dressing — highly recommend! — Steaks are really good. Order yours one notch down from the way you want it prepared — they generally overcook a little bit — Skip the mac & cheese side — Haddock and shrimp are always tasty — Italian Sampler Platter is huge portions but not the best I’ve had

My dad lives this place. We try visit once a week. Brought my niece when she was visiting from Iowa and had to male her have the hands cut onion rings with home made, bomb, ranch dressing. Good cool chill relaxed place. Dare I say a bit of a dive. But that’s what I like. Food is always delicious and the staff is great

All 3 of my stars are for the food. I go here often because the food is really great and you get a TON for your money. I really do like it… But the service leaves much to be desired. Every time I have been here, the service seems to be getting worse and worse. There is always only one waitress on for the whole dining room. The tables are never clean. The last 2 times I went here, I had to clean my own table. Due to the fact that there is only ever one waitress on, we always wait a MINIMUM of 30 minutes before we are even greeted and asked for our order. Go for the food… And if you like bringing home leftovers. But be sure to bring your patience.

I regrettably have to update my review and remove one stars. Too many times in a row I have come here now and had the same situation: One waitress on staff for the entire place. The generally do a great job with attitude, but the wait times are horrendous. Order a beer, wait 10 minutes, they tell you it’s out, so you have to begin again. My table was not wiped clean and still had crumbs on it when I came in today at 3. Again, if there was another person here, I don’t think it would be an issue. One person just doesn’t have time to host, serve and bus every table in the restaurant. Regardless, it’s kind of frustrating to come here now. Especially since the food is still top-notch. Has to be one of the best values in Boston. The portions are enormous and even the salads are filling. Still recommended, but temper your expectations for time.

Wait a minute. I reviewed this place already. I know I have. how is that possible that my review is not here? Fine. In Brief: Not for those in search of anything«hip» or «retro» this place is as unpretentious as it gets– leave your Gucci ideas at home on that Crate and Barrel sofa. I love the Galway. I had my law shcool graduation dinner at this joint to demonstrate the flavor of my hood to my out of town guests. Everyone loved it. It has held onto it’s original vibe & clientele more firmly than Doyles over the years. It’s still an OLDSCHOOL neighborhood bar. The real Cheers. This means you got local, BOSTON wait staff. They treat you like family. Which means they may ignore you. And will still call you honey. After a decade in the Bay State, I’ve learned to love this– yes, it was hard to get used to. Generally, I find service here great. Sometimes, maybe you wait a little… REDIKulous amounts of food for very reasonable prices. Always with a vegetable.(used to be all dinners came with an entire apple. Nice touch.) Not gourmet, but solid. Very solid. The onion rings are TDF and not a task to take on alone. Always a bar full of new friends. And the game.
