Belstar moving earns 5 stars only because Unilocal won’t allow me to give them 6. I had been dreading the idea of hiring movers for my roommate and myself — we were only going ten minutes down the road from Cambridge to East Cambridge, but I also needed assistance with an out-of-the-way errand that I feared would add outrageous expense to the adventure: I’d bought a bed(frame, box spring, mattress) from a Craigslist seller in the South End, but had no way to transport it to my new place. Dimitry, Sergei, and their full-size moving truck came to the rescue. They stopped by my seller’s apartment first, carrying the bed components down three flights(!) of stairs and loading it into the van before meeting us at our place in Cambridge. They gathered up the rest of the furniture, taking care to wrap and pad items along the way to prevent damage in transit. Their biggest challenge, undoubtedly, came in the form of an old TV(approximate weight: 4,583,997 lbs) which they hoisted into the truck with astounding delicacy. To their credit, the movers also managed to hide what must have been mounting dismay when they realized our final destination was a historic third-floor walkup with comically narrow and twisting staircases. All of the furniture made it up except for the TV, whose unwieldy proportions proved too expansive for the stairs. Dimitry and Sergei knocked money off our bill for the inconvenience, and offered to come back at another time with more sophisticated equipment to lift the TV onto the back porch. I have a feeling that if I had requested a brontosaurus to hoist the beastly thing to our floor, Flintstones-style, these guys would’ve found a way to make it happen. The best part, though, was the value. Pleasant, flexible, capable movers with professional equipment are hard to find, but Belstar offers top-notch service for very reasonable rates. Our several-hour job on a ridiculously busy Labor Day weekend was quoted at a flat $ 200 fee, which they brought down to $ 160 after the TV debacle. I would not hesitate to use them again, or to recommend them to anyone planning a move in the Boston area!
