This place has some great meal plate options. The ambience is non-existent but if you are looking for a quick, well cooked«home-style» dinner, Alex Chimi’s is it. This option is not for the health-conscious as the meat is heavily salted/seasoned and the sweet plantains fried to perfection but if you are looking for yummy caribbean dish to indulge in don’t look any further.

This is the best rotisserie chicken in Boston, hands down. The rotisserie chicken with rice, beans and tostones is mind-blowing. Every time I have visitors, I refer them here and they always come back with rave reviews. You will not find better chicken anywhere else in Boston. This is the spot all of the locals frequent.

Alex’s food is good, however for me the salt in the food is extremely high therefore for me it kills the fast food taste. I am a Latina Woman and all that salt in the Rice, the Chicken and some of the other foods is not good for me. I cook with minimal amount of salt or zero. When I buy the Whole cut up Chicken and Rice with Guandules it is so Salty I can’t eat it. Just a note to the wise please use less Salt. Also your Customer Service Stinks, Seria major no tener negocio si el jefe emplea personas Malcriadas. I call the owner on a matter and the cashier was sooooo rude I am not returning. Dominican Business is not all about the Money.

Waiting 2h 3mins so far is unjustifiable! Lying about delivery being on its way when I called to ask for ETA after waiting an entire hour! 1hr and 30m later I called again, another woman said they just left and that it was on its way, I told her that’s what I was told 30mins ago. She said there was no way because the guy just left 5 mins ago so if I was told that a half hour prior then it was a lie… Now I am 2hrs 7mins and still no delivery in sight! No call from them to apologize or to let me know about the where abouts of my order… They showed zero remorse and in my opinion unacceptable way to treat a repeat customer for many years! I will not be ordering from them ever again. And still no delivery in sight!

My mom has been coming here for a long time. My favorite is there fried pork for there seasoning which they have a unique mixture of the right amount of lemon and oregano ect… The rice is ok. The chicken can be sometimes dry like others have said on here, I used to like there beef empanadas because of there similar seasoning to the fried pork until they started puttin olives in it and switched up on the seasoning. Uuuggh! I hate olives alot of dominican empanadas always seem to have these I dont know why, they do nothing for the taste I see olives as being an alternative to people who dont have the magic hands to make there own delicious seasoning! An empanada should have its own unique taste and be very beefy if stuffed with beef. Not to take a bite and taste the beef and all of a sudden a little chunk of olives that overwhelms the rest of the empanada the matter how much you keep biting. P. S. I always hear there is an elder lady serving sometimes and she seems to be grumpy at times and give you less for your money…

The first time I came here I got the Combo Sabrosura and the fried steak was really salty. This time around, I got the Combo Villa Mella and it was just perfect. I got the rice and fried plantains. The portions are huge that I would have some for leftovers. I’ll definitely come here if I didn’t want to cook and it’s not that expensive.

To find this place just go out onto centre st in JP and follow your nose. Follow that delicious rich rotisserie chicken goodness smell. Others have found the smell as well as this place is super busy during lunch, but a good sign! You can get two sides with any choice of meat(rotisserie or fried chicken, chicharonnes, fried beef). sides include rice, maduros(sweet plantains), yucca, fried potatoes, tostones, and a few others. They have smaller and larger sizes not listed on the menu. But I couldn’t get their rotisserie chicken in a small. The medium is HALF a chicken. Lots of people order in Spanish but the guy also speaks English. The chicharonnes here are thick and meaty(not all skin like other places) and the chicken is soft and juicy and tender. I’ve tried them with maduros, rice, and yucca root. All good.

If you are in a mood for a good sandwich, that will hit the spot, check this place!!! Great Dominican food. Also try the Zapote smoothy, it is a must have… love it. I always go to this little restaurant if I am in the area.

One of my many favorite places for some Dominican food! It’s usually packed(especially in the summer) if you want to eat in its a bit small. I usually take my order to go. Very good food! Love this place.

«There it is. The chimi. It’s not huge, which is okay with me, since I’m not too hungry. Sub-sandwich-style bread for the bun, with a patty of ground beef smothered in ketchup and mayo. And I do mean smothered. There’s a lot of condiment on this baby. Finally, under the meat is some shredded lettuce and green tomatoes.» See my full review on my blog:

Located on Centre Street in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. Order at the counter to take out/sit in the restaurant. Incredibly fresh rotisserie chicken — generously spiced skin with moist meat. The half chicken combination plate(combo Dominicano) is served with two sides. Platano maduro(fried sweet plantains) are delightful and moro de guandules(yellow rice with peas) compliments the chicken and plantains for the ideal sweet and savory combination. Great deal! Will be back for the namesake Dominican hamburgers(chimis).

Super tasty authentic style Dominican spot in JP. This is exactly what you should expect when you think of perfect chicharrones. Super crispy and full of flavor. The portion size is pretty big and hard to put down in one setting if you get rice or plantains. The plantains were decent nothing special and I think they lacked a little in terms of flavor. I did enjoy the rice and the counter staff were very friendly and inviting. I’ll definitely come back as long as I live in the area. Oh and I would also recommend the smoothies. Coconut is very refreshing and the guanabana is nice as well. Definitely stop in.

Ordered the half chicken and two sides: plantains and rice and green peas. And the guanabana smoothie. Overall its tons of food for $ 10. The chicken was a little dry but I’ll come back for the rice and guanabana smoothie!

Berry berry good. I love those onions they pile on my yuca. The chicken is delicious and rice is pretty decent. Fried pork a little on the salty side. Definitely recommend especially for family meals.

I absolutely love this place. I travel at least 15 minutes on the T to get a plate because it is THAT good. I get the same plate every time: fried pork, yellow rice and fried plantains. It is beyond satisfactory. It is cheap(they take DEBIT/CREDIT with an additional $.50 surcharge), convenient and most, if not all of the employees who work there are super friendly. One afternoon, an employee offered me a piece of meat to try that I never had before, which I thought was super sweet! Sometimes, they can get overcrowded because they have a limited dine-in area. Also, it can feel like an oven waiting in line to order.

Alex’s Chimis is okay. I had the whole chicken, rice and sweet plantains. All of it was not the best I’ve ever had. Sweet plantains were ok but I’ve had better. Rice was fine. The chicken was moist, but not as flavorful as I would have liked. Overall I may go back, but I’m in no rush. The Unilocal reviews led me to believe it would be better than it was. On a side note, my boyfriend ordered a sandwich and it took a while to come out; you may wanna call in and order sandwiches before you get there. Finally, a lot of reviews say cash only. They now accept visa and MasterCard.

For ten bucks, you get a half chicken and two sides. My favorite sides are the rice and beans and the yucca. Delicious! And it’s all topped with sauteed onions. The flavors are are so delicious. Lots of bones. They chop up the chicken with a butcher knife. They have plenty of seating.

Craving Dominican food? Never tried Dominican food? Come one, come all, and try the chicken and the fried pork! The rotisserie chicken is nicely flavored and the fried pork is good enough to give you a heart attack if you have no willpower and come back frequently. I also liked the yuca, but wasn’t a fan of the fried plantains. Alex’s Chimis is exactly what I picture a non-descript, easy to miss hole in the wall, but it’s worth the hunt! Bring cash! And though it helps if you can speak Spanish. you can always do as I do, and point and smile!
