I LOVEYAPPYHOUR! I have taken my doggy Waylon to a bunch of these now in the last few years. hes met Santa twice, hes sat with the Eater Bunny, he was in a doggy pageant, wore his best Halloween costume, and even had green treats for St Pattys Day! There are always LOTS of treats for him to sample and for me to buy him, with our favorite being Bubbas Bistro muttballs! They have water set out for thirsty pups, and sometimes fun games and trivia! At one of the Yappy Hours, i won a gift certificate to any Jacksonville Landing restaurant for answering some questions about dogs. Its a nice way to get my little sidekick out of the house and socialize with some new friends, and always a good time

I wasn’t so sure about taking my dog Niko to Yappy hour at the Jacksonville Landing at first bc he thinks that he is free to go crazy and bark at every dog in his sight, but since it was the last Yappy hour of the year, and our donations were going to the humane society which is were I first found my little fur baby in 2009 after he had been left with a broken hip and abused I decided to pack up doggie stroller(yes I you heard me correctly he has a doggie stroller… lol!), his Christmas attire, a blanket, and drive on down to the Jacksonville Landing with him. Yappy hour started at 2:00pm and they were giving out complementary photos with Santa for your pup to first 50 people that arrived with there dogs and donations for the humane society, needless to say I wasn’t one of the first 50 as I got lost again, but that was ok with me. When we got there we parked to out Niko, got him dressed for Santa, and put him in his stroller, but he had other ideas as he wanted to walk and check out the other dogs. So we let him just to see how things went, surprisingly enough he wasn’t one of the barkers! He seemed more interested in looking at all the different kinds of dogs and maybe barked at a few of the little dogs but that was it! He got his picture taken with Santa, they had prizes being raffled off, everyone’s dog seemed to be dressed up in some sort of Christmas attire, and they also had vendors selling drinks for us humans(alcohol/and non-alcoholic), and the vendors geared to the dogs selling collars, treats, bandanas, etc. Not to mention the jumbotron had the cutest pictures of people’s dogs all dressed up flashing across the screen that they had submitted to them in the weeks prior to the event. They’re were people who brought lawn chairs to sit by the the fountains and the Christmas tree, and at the end all of us got up on the stage in front of the big Christmas tree at the Landing for a Yappy Hour group shot. Over all I’m glad we decided to go and bring Niko and can’t wait for the next Yappy Hour in March of 2014!

Yappy Hour is a FREE event at the Jacksonville Landing. It takes place on the third Sunday of every month. The event is BYOD(bring your own dog) and each month has a theme. This month’s theme was«St. Pawty’s Day.» All the dogs were decked out in green. The Landing fountains were also tinted green for the occasion. The event has drinks, live music, prizes, contests, and games. If you want food, I would order it to-go from one of the restaurants or bring your own. Don’t forget to bring cash to enter the raffles and drinks. It wouldn’t hurt to bring your own folding chair, either. Also — good doggie owners remember to bring their poop bags! This is a great event for dog lovers of all ages. I can’t wait for next month’s Birthday Bash!
