It’s a free park and you can even take your fur baby here with you. There’s not much more you can ask for except for the annoying mosquitoes and ticks, but if those critters don’t exist here then it wouldn’t really highlight what nature really is. I have yet to explore the hidden doggy park so that will be mine and Rambo’s next adventure! Last time I took him here I did have to put on some Brad Paisley and pick him for ticks.(if you listen to country you get my joke). If you are into history, the brick trail has a little story behind it. I won’t try to spoil it for anyone so make sure you read up on some of the boards when you go :)

I really need to stop passing my places and writing them off. I worked across the street from this park for the past two years and have never stopped by here once until today. This place is awesome. From the playground to the nature trails. I was amazed by the trails that were only a short distance from busy Roosevelt St. They have two different dog areas for large or smaller breeds. I love being able to allow my dog to roam off the leash and not worrying about other people. Oh and it’s FREE, that just makes it that much better. If you are looking for a nice family park with a space for the pooch to run free, you will find it here

100 reviews! :) This park is just across 17 from NASJAX. It is free, and there’s a lot picked back in here! Mad you first drive back, you’ll notice that there are trails back in the woods along the road. We saw some trail bikers and another woman with her dog. As you continue driving, you’ll come to an open area with a playground, with parking. It looks like a well equipped play area and a large green for throwing a frisbee or kicking a ball around. Continue down the road and you’ll eventually come to more parking and a dog park area(see photos). There is a large dog area and a small dog area. We took our dog in and there were about 4 or 5 other dogs playing already. There are lots of trees in the dog park so you can’t really throw a disc easily or play fetch. Also, because of the tree cover there is no grass whatsoever. So avoid coming after rain if you don’t want a muddy dog! The area is relatively big, though, which is nice if you don’t have anywhere else to take your dog off leash. We enjoyed our visit to this park — we’ll probably be back, hopefully with friends next time! :)

By far one of my favorite nature trail parks around town. There is a short half mile trail that leads to a pretty cool look out tower. The tower is about 4 stories high and offers some cool views. Very peaceful! Across the street there is another trail that loops about 3 miles. It gets very muddy after any rain. There are two dog parks– one for large dogs and one for smaller dogs. Pretty well maintained. There isn’t any water– people seem to drop off jugs of water to leave for others which is really nice! Bring your own waste bags– as there’s a trash can but not any bags. There is a playground with some picnic tables and covered benches. All in all an amazing park and a fun time for my dog Wilbur :)

My children and I visited this park with friends. What a neat place. They have nature trails that take you to a lookout tower and they have a nature center that I think is only open on certain days. There is a playground for the little kids and they also have a dog park. It is a fun place to visit.

The trail to the watchtower is a nice little walk in the woods with the dog, and you can end the visit with some off leash time in the fenced dog park. The dog park can use a bit of trimming back, but it’s great to have a fenced area for both large and small dogs. The park also has benches along the trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a nature education center.

When I want to take my dog, Bear, for a hike, Tillie K. Fowler Park is my park of choice. Known locally as just«Tillie Fowler», there are great hiking paths for all and one even leads out to an observation deck for those who like bird watching. This park does hold a bit of history, as it was a training ground for American troops during World War I. Hiking through the park, you can find remnants of the old brick road that linked Ortega to Jacksonville during this time period. There’s a playground and picnic area for the kids. The city also offers a Nature Center, but the hours vary and it never seems to be open whenever I am there. There’s also a naturally shaded dog park(separated into large and small size dogs) for those like myself with canine companions. It could use some sprucing up with an addition of watering stations or just a care for the vegetation inside. There are three hiking trails and one mountain biking trail. Bear and I still haven’t conquered the Island Trail, the longest trail in the park, but it’s on our bucket list. Before the end of this school year, I chaperoned a group of Girl Scouts on a field trip to the park. The activity of the day was a scavenger hunt, and the girls got an awesome prize of seeing not one, but two wild tortoises. Despite the lack of care with the dog park, the rest of Tillie Fowler is excellent and well worth it for a day in nature. You wouldn’t think, after getting in the woods a bit, that you are on the Westside of Jacksonville.
