Very rude lady working when I came in with my two kids. Just trying to get an idea of some other Christmas ideas for them. I was bugged about how a car that my one year old son picked up was not age appropriate and he needed to have a different one. And then my son picked up a pushing lawn mower type of toy and started pushing it and it seemed to be one that I was going to buy until she snapped that he needed to put that down because she has to sell them. Yeah! I was going to buy one from you until you acted so rude. I will NEVER return to this store again. How do you expect kids to come in and not be excited and want to pick up a stuffed animal or push a little lawnmower around? We were the only ones in the store too, I wouldn’t let my kids run around like crazy people and they were very well behaved until we were scolded and then it was tears and not knowing what they did wrong.

I absolutely LOVE this store. They have a huge selection of puzzles, books, science kits, classic toys, etc. I work with special needs kids, so sometimes we’ll go in to find some sort of science project we can work on. The kids also love board games, I’ve bought and taught the kids Backgammon, Telepathy, and Pentago. Definitely can’t find these games at Toys R Us! The owners have always been very nice, I hear complaints every so often about how they«yell» at kids??? I’ve been in there when the store is packed full of people, with noisy kids that are getting annoying because their parents aren’t doing anything to keep them quiet… but I haven’t heard the owners yell. Like I said, I work with kids that have special needs and some of them talk kind of loud or try to touch everything. I make sure they behave in the store and use their«indoor» voice(which they do) and the owners have never harassed any of us. The only reason I gave Scheffel’s 4⁄5 stars is because they need to make a better website. I also saw that they have a Facebook page but neither of these have a whole lot of details on them. I would like to see more information on their website, such as: products, it would be nice to purchase items online since I don’t live close anymore, and because Jacksonville is a tourist town they could do more in-store events for kids.

After a disturbing interaction with the owner, I’ll never return to this store. My son walked in with a covered piece of candy with my husband and I over Christmas weekend. The owner looks at my 5 year old son and says«is that Candy!» and I told her yes it was. She pulls out a bag and says to my son«I’ll not have candy in my store… you have to cover it up in this bag» and hands him a bag to put his covered candy in. She didn’t address me or my husband or ask us if it was okay to put the candy in a bag she chose to address my 5 year old son. On this day, this toy store lost all of it’s magic and specialness because of the owners lack of judgement. After years of shopping here and spending hundreds of dollars supporting this store, I’ll never return. I’d rather take my money to Wal-Mart than here.

I am a picky shopper. I am especially picky about shopping for my daughter. I had no idea how hard it would be to find quality toys in this day and age; I’ve been disappointed by nearly every toy store we’ve walked into. Not so with Scheffel’s! We found this gem while traveling and I am SO glad that we did. The owner is extremely knowledgable about all aspects of her products — what kids will enjoy, what they will learn from, and what materials are safe for them to be playing with. This store only carries the best of the best in terms of quality brands and individual toys from those brands. The owner was enjoyable, helpful, and passionate. I was truly blown away by finally finding a toy store that was not only up to par, but actually exceeded my expectations in selection of quality toys. I only wish that we had a store like this locally — or that they would do online sales!

A VERY fun, interesting toy store. Cheap goods won’t be found here, that’s for sure. It’s obvious that the proprietor takes pride in being nothing like Borders or Walmart. In fact, she expressed delight at Borders recent going-out-of-business announcement.

if you’re looking for cheap, disposable Chinese toys for your younger acquaintances, this is not the place for you. however, if you appreciate heirloom-quality, craftsman-built toys that kids will cherish for years to come, you must visit Scheffel’s. the owners are knowledgeable, helpful, and a joy to chat with. from our first visit, it was clear that these were people with a passion for their product. we’ve since been back several times, and have always left with a smile on our face. stores of this caliber(in any category) are a rare find, but well worth the search.

Scheffel’s Toys is a great old fashioned toy store in a pretty brick building in historic Jacksonville, Oregon. This is really 2 toy stores in one. The front half is unique hard to find toys for kids and the back is military figurines and models for teens and adults. Picked up some toys for my kids suffering a long car trip. Would have shopped longer, but the place doesn’t have restrooms for customers.
