Sorry everyone… We went out there today and according to a sign on the door it’s closed permanently. They are trying to sell it and the restaurant. Too bad!!!

I love Oregon and this is such a cute little country store on the way to Applegate lake. It fits right in with the surroundings and it’s everything you would think of if you were driving up a mountain to a big beautiful lake and wanted to stop along the way for some refreshments or snacks. To get the full effect, its a MUST stop!

It was a perfect late summer day for a ride into the upper Applegate valley. After stopping at the Cowhorn Vineyard and Garden, I rode to Applegate Lake and across the dam and then returned to McKee Bridge for lunch. There is a bridge, a covered bridge that is no longer in use and next to it is the McKee café and store that serves the farmers and other residents in upper Applegate plus the hunters, fishers, boaters, hikers and others who venture into the Siskiyou mountains along the Oregon-California border. I had a very tasty ortega cheese burger with tomato, sweet onions and pickle along with the pepper, cheese and meat. To my surprise, noon, the place wasn’t crowded with visitors, just some local folks in the café. Most of the outdoor types must have brought their own food this labor day weekend.

Good food beef and buffalo burgers from local farmers! Friendly staff but the store should have a happy hour and they don’t sell rolling papers?!
