When you are deprived of in-home laundry facilities, the last thing you want to do is trek miles to find a nice, clean, well-kept laundry. Sure, it’d be a nice blessing to have one nearby but the reality is you just go with what’s close. Unfortunately, while I was visiting Jacksonville, that was C & B. It was less than a block away from me so at least the location was ideal but the facilities were abysmal. The one thing you expect from a laundromat is to be able to wash and dry your clothes. Hopefully quickly and cheaply. You’re able to do that here but the equipment is neither quick nor cheap and it appears as though the appliances are leftovers from the 60s. It needs serious TLC for this place to earn anyone’s praise. Besides the antique washers and dryers, the building is poorly maintained and dirty. It reeks of cigarette smoke and armpits. The chairs that you can sit on while you wait are extremely suspect and I preferred to leave the premises while my loads were running even though the machines didn’t lock while running and the other customers were somewhat shady-looking. I’d rather have my shirts stolen than have to sit on one of those chairs. Another serious downfall of C & B is the guy who I assume runs it. He is there pretty much all the time and will get you change if you need it but he is not friendly at all and is usually running multiple loads of his own for people who pay by the pound to have their stuff laundered for them(it’s extremely expensive to do this). He won’t move out of your way and always uses the machines right in front of where everyone needs to pass by so you are constantly having to fight past him to get a load thrown in. I would love to say that at least my laundry left smelling clean but sometimes that wasn’t even the case. I think the machines were so old and used for so long that they fail to remove the funk or perhaps they give you the leftovers of someone else’s funk. Although I loved Jacksonville overall, I have to say that I breathed a sigh of relief when I no longer had to do laundry here!
