Well this place has gone downhill. We went last night and had a really bad experience and it wasnt even that busy! The glasses smelt like onions(probably washed with frying pans) and had to return the tea that was already awful ready made stuff. It’s not that hard to brew your own iced tea! Then i asked for a bottle of water and it was 3.50 $. The tuna tataki was bland and fishy tasting. Dynamite roll came out mushy and poorly rolled. Upcharge to give my daughter grilled shrimp instead of fried… bill for 2 adults and a child was over 60 $!!! No alcohol. Won’t be returning.

So are we all just going to leave out the part about taking your shoes off and crawling to and from your table?! Ok. But, while it wasn’t a deal breaker, I sure as heck won’t forget it! Quite the authentic experience for me being the almost 6 foot giant that I am! I digress. The sushi and service was impeccable! They’re extra attentive at Kamiya! I feel like we had a server at our private room for the entire duration of our meal! Food, presentation, and atmosphere on FLEEK!

Meh, dry’est chicken satay without flavor we ever had, everything is padded with lettuce. Ordered a summer roll(not summer roll) is lettuce roll. They should really try a bit of rice noodle in the middle. Enjoyed the sushi myself, but my wife being more of a traditionalist, suffered. Thought presentation is spot on and the décor was nice.

First sushi experience since moving from Chicago. I must say it was on par with the best sushi restaurants in Chicago. The atmosphere was great. Friendly and helpful waitstaff. We will be back.

The absolute worst dining experience of my life. My husband ordered green curry because he is not a fan of the sushi at this place. We’ve only been here three times in the five years we’ve lived here(from Atlanta). First time, totally unimpressed. Second time, takeout sushi that I thought was ok and he didn’t care for, and this visit was the third ANDFINAL time. I ordered two sushi rolls with the intention of taking some home because we were eating early. After 30 minutes I asked the waitress to check on our food and she seems irritated by the request. My husbands magically came out right then. My sushi took another ten minutes(40 min total and my husband was done). By this time, I’m starving so I dig right in, ask her for the check and a box(had an appointment for couples massage in 15 mins and we were late because of the delay). I gave her my card and then as I was eating the rolls realized they just tasted like rice and spicy. I did’t taste any fish. I started examining them and after she came back with my payment receipt I told her that they didn’t put any fish on my rolls. She hurried away(broken english) and so I walked over to a lady bussing tables who was the manager and asked her to come to my table. She argued with me that the«fish» I was reading on the menu listed as yellowtail, salmon and white tuna, was all chopped up in the«spicy» which might have made sense had I never eaten sushi. We argued this for a minute and she kept denying the fact that the rolls I ordered ONTHECHEFSRECOMMENDATION menu which are the most expensive and typically fish packed in most places, were made without the listed ingredients. I finally gave in and said ok well this is not what I expected and I do not want it. I had eaten two pieces of the 14. She said that they already made it and it was correct and that I was the only person to ever complain! LOL. I told her that these rolls were not made with any fish and showed her and she still argued that the three fish listed were all chopped up in the spicy. Take a look at the pic and tell me if you see $ 14 sushi rolls here? I was so mad. They didn’t refund anything and i left all the food(except for two pieces) on the table. My card had already been charged. I should have known better and gone to YUMMYSUSHI on southside where we usually go and the rolls are $ 7 – 10 and full of delicious chunks of fish AND spicy mix. You know, the way sushi is typically made. I believe they were busy, threw my roll together and then when called on it decided not to do the right thing. Sushi can be dangerous if its not properly handled and I don’t eat sushi in a place where they totally lack integrity or respect for the customer. Eventually, that will show in the food prep and make someone really sick.

It’s pricy but it was well worth it. The sushi was amazing. However I didn’t like that it was decorated like a nightclub.

Folks, this place leaves their back doors to the kitchen wide open-all night during business hours. Even just driving by, you can see flying insects hovering around the nearby light sources(as they always do). There is NOTHING stopping them from entering the kitchen which you can see very clearly because it is all brightly lit! I think you know where I’m going with this. Drive around back next time and check it out yourself.

Have eaten here and gotten take out before with not one problem to say, other than when they are busy service may be slower. Great food though and would definitely recommend.

I’m not joking when I say that I eat here at least three times a week. Sashimi is so fresh and the service is excellent!

Pretty good Asian fusion. Vibrant colors and fresh ingredients. Pretty colorful and energetic ambiance with a regular seating area, bar area, and special traditional Japanese seating. The food comes in enormous sizes, probably enough for 2 – 3 meals. I ordered an entrée and a sushi roll but could only finish the roll despite the fact I began the meal being very hungry. I also found the bar specials to be pretty creative in terms of drinks. Despite all of this, there was a down shot: I found my waitress to be off putting and inattentive. So based on that and the food being just okay, I’m giving this 4 stars.

Place was great! We got a private room for my friends bday and we had a blast. You can change the lights of the room and bring your own bottle for a small fee. All it needed was some background music and we would of never left. The food was delicious not to forget and affordable.

This place was different from other Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. Instead of having hibachi they had regular dining and also rooms on the side for you to take your shoes off and sit. The rooms offer privacy and mood lighting which is nice for special occasions such as birthdays. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxing. As for the food I had sushi and a plate of tofu Pad Thai. I thought the tofu would be cut into smaller pieces but they were pretty large and a little rubbery. I would probably not order their tofu again. The sushi was delicious and I would definitely get that again. I had the lava roll. Great flavors. Our server was top notch and very accommodating. The host that helped us when we arrived was not so much. She kept saying the wrong name of the person the reservation was under and told us we still had to wait and to sit at the bar. We went to the bar to wait and there were no open seats available so we went to leave to sit in the car to wait. As we were walking by her she without looking up told us to have a good night like we had just eaten and were leaving the restaurant. She could’ve at least looked up to see we were the same people she was just talking to. Overall I would eat here again, but I don’t know if it’s even worth it to make reservations if your table isn’t going to be ready when you arrive.

Sushi meets new age. New age denominates with new fashion. New fashion stomps on food. If anything, this place looked good by décor. I wasn’t impressed by this place, nor the decorations. If anything, it was over dramatic. Comma now, it’s a sushi place. It’s not a sushi-ub. Beside that, the food was not good. Presentation was good, but the quality was not. I ordered plate of sashimi. Presented well. But the taste was a little too blah. No good texture. No fresh taste. Basically, sashimi was not sashimi. It was a fish. Ha! There seemed to be a lot of outsiders, which I was. However, follow the locals. They know the best places in town. Next time, that is what I will do. Rating Food: 2 Ambience: 2(Too crazy for me.) Service: 3 Price: 2 Overall: 2 On to the next restaurant in Jax’s beach when I come visit again.

Just moved to Jax Beach have been to kamiya 2 times and I have enjoyed it both times. The sushi was amazing and the rolls are great. The nice thing about Kamiya’s if you are on a budget there are plenty of options. If you are looking for elaborate rolls they have a wide selection. Also they have unfiltered sake, which if you like sake is a must try. The service has always been very good the waitresses I had both times was very polite and professional.

A group of five colleagues grabbed dinner at Kamiya on a Friday night. We were ushered into one of their private eating areas that required us to remove our shoes, to climb into a booth, and to sit on cushions around a wooden table. The seating area added to the authenticity of the place. Three of us split the«Love Boat for 3»($ 64), which was impressively presented in a wooden display in the shape of a boat. Sushi rolls were beautifully plated and the sashimi was displayed in ice. The fish was so fresh that it basically melted in our mouthes and the rolls were hearty and well-prepared, and the sauces topping them were delicious. Each of us also got a choice of soup or salad. Others at the table got sushi, which they enjoyed as well. The quality of the food and of the dining experience here was excellent, the prices were reasonable, and the variety of dishes on the menu was great. I’ll definitely be back.

This place would get 5 stars if they were a little cheaper. I’ve been here a few times now and every time they don’t disappoint! no matter what I get japanese wise… I’ve never tried the Thai food. The specialty drinks are awesome as well. Since I’ve been trying to eat a little bit healthier I noticed that they have brown rice that can be substituted for white rice which is a must! Usu ally I’m the type to order three to four rolls and have leftovers for later which I tend to eat when I get home… hehehe. This time I decided to do no rice at all and no sauces so you’ll see my choices represent this… and I was able to find several items on the menu to do this… and I was not disappointed. The staff are always friendly and attentive and I have been here with two people and 15. Check them out for your next sushi outing.

Underwhelming. I ordered the drunken noodles and the Tom Yum soup(chicken) *Tom Yum– decent broth, not much substance(vegetables/protein etc) Drunken noodles — Heavy sauce with not much flavor or spice(ordered level 8 out of 10) Service was below average Would not return *ordered the lunch noodles that comes with a soup, not the Tom Yum. Had to pay full price for the Tom Yum with no discount or offer of the included soup.
