I don’t understand why this doesn’t have 5 stars. It we highly recommended by the locals and no one at my table disappointed. Delicious from start to finish. Excellent service as well. Had the mixed game meat plate. The bison prime rib was my favorite. The elk medallions had amazing flavor.

First steak house we tried in Jackson Hole was Gun and Barrel. Excellent service from start to finish. I had the special bone in NY Strip steak and ordered it medium rare with sautéed mushrooms on the side. It came out perfectly tender and very flavorful. The wife had the trout with crab stuffing and rice. While I loved my meal she didn’t like hers. She thought it was a little greasy and the taste of the mushrooms overpowered the crab stuffing. I would come here again but I might have to come here by myself.

This was one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. Buffalo sirloin was incredible and I would definitely get it again. Elk chops were also delicious and another great choice. Cool atmosphere and excellent service as well.

Great food and great service in a historic atmosphere. If you’re in the greater Yellowstone area this is a must, especially if you’re interested in trying local game. My husband won’t stop talking about the Velvet Elk medallions!

We visited Gun and Barrel looking to eat some delicious game! They have an amazing selection to choose from so I suggest viewing their menu online to see what suits your fancy. As for us, we went with the Elk Medallions for my lady, while I had the Game mixed grill which included Bison Prime Rib, Elk Steak, and a Venison Bratwurst; easily the manliest meal I’ve ever had being around 24 oz of meat! The service was great; Roan our waiter did a great job making recommendations and overall just a friendly guy! It was a great dinner and we ended it with an Ice Cream Pie and it was 100!!!

My husband, in-laws and I loved this place! We were hesitant to go drop $ 50 on a steak elsewhere in town without a personal recommendation but The Gun Barrel’s prices were much more reasonable. The atmosphere is rustic/western which we enjoyed and the service was excellent. I ordered the elk medallions medium-rare, per the waitress’ recommendation and they were to die for. Generally, I like my steak prepared medium but since elk is a leaner cut, medium-rare was perfect. It came with sugar snap peas and garlic mashed potatoes — yum! My in-laws are fairly picky and they loved what they had as well. My husband ordered a ribeye and really enjoyed his meal. The only item we were not crazy about was the buffalo carpaccio but that could be a matter of personal preference. If you are looking for something comparable to Capital Grille, perhaps you should try one of the more upscale steakhouses. However, for a delicious steak dinner that comes in at $ 25-$ 30, this is the spot!

I knew nothing about this restaurant and I picked it because it was near our hotel. My husband and I shared a 14 ounce ribeye plate and I ordered a side plate. Everything was delicious — the bread, the sweet potatoes, the green beans and the steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and was tender. The décor was very interesting and the staff were polite and helpful. It was not overly noisy either. It was a pleasant experience. Thanks.

Delicious food. Great service. The restaurant was fairly busy but they say us right away. Food was brought to our table really fast and was excellent. I ordered the salmon(melt in your mouth) with garlic mashed potatoes(also yummy) with steamed snap peas(really good). My husband ordered the Teton ribeye(very good and cooked to order) with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed snap peas. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the deep dish apple pie was so-so. Not as but nothing to rave about.
Looking for local cuisine during a road trip. Atmosphere is great and region appropriate. Had the venison, elk, and bison in various forms and I’m truly impressed. Good martini too, which I see as a lynchpin for measuring restaurant quality. Great evening, well worth the cost.

Our server was super nice but the restaurant was just OK. Felt a little touristy. I had the velvet elk, which was really good, but skimpy on the mashed potatoes. Bordering on 3 stars.

Well, the name says it all. Gun Barrel Steak and Game House. First of all, the atmosphere. There were tons of stuffed animals around the place that were amazing! It is a nice old fashioned place, which had great food! I had a platter of elk, venison, and buffalo prime rib. The venison was my favorite by far! It was so tasty! The elk was okay — my mom had elk chop as a whole meal, and it tasted better than my elk on this platter — and the buffalo prime rib was really good. Sweet potato of the side — good. Pricy, which is why this review is four stars. Try eating here — you won’t regret it!

Must get the elk chop! We came here for dinner one night specifically for their game meat, and that did not disappoint! The restaurant is decorated with heads of wild animals which is pretty cool to see. We were seated right away and our waitress was very nice and took our orders right away. I of course ordered the elk chop rare! The quality of meat was superb, very lean and cooked slightly with a warm center. I wasted no time in tearing that big piece of meat apart and savoring every bite. So tasty! It’s definitely a nice restaurant so most of the entrees are $ 30 or more. Service is very nice and attentive. Good experience overall.

Quite excited to revisit a spot where my father and I visited almost 10 years ago. Sadly didn’t quite live up to my recollection… but still a reasonable place for a meal. The appetizer of buffalo carpaccio was delicious! I was mostly excited for the mixed game entrée(elk steak, buffalo prime rib and venison bratwurst), but left me feeling«meh». Nothing particularly wrong with all the meat and preparation, just felt there wasn’t anything that really popped with any of the meats. I don’t want to say they were bland, but didn’t really hit me with a whole lot of flavor.

Yes, this place was a little touristy, but we expected that given we saw it constantly in those free visitor catalogues we picked up at the airport. The building that the restaurant is in was once a taxidermy museum, hence the large, stuffed animals all over the place. We were seated by a giant buffalo head and a pleasant fireplace in a quieter part of the restaurant. We enjoyed Moose Drool beers and I had the elk medallions in mushroom sauce while husband had a steak, both served with garlic mashed potatoes(heaven!) and green beans(yick). Both of our meals were pretty good, not great. I discovered that I like elk, and both of our meats were cooked perfectly, and the meat and potatoes were flavorful. As another person pointed out earlier, the food came out very fast and the wait staff very attentive. You do almost feel like you are being hustled out of there, and I think that is part of what is missing about this place — ambiance. It is a very large empty space, so the little touches like the fireplaces and the animals kind of get lost, and it was also a little cold. We were coming off a very active day of skiing and wanted to linger a while and relax by a fire with our beers and meat. Instead the vibe here was a little rushed — we were in and out in under an hour. This was one of the more expensive restaurants we had gone to on our trip, but the experience here was one of the more forgettable ones. The food was good though!

We saw this place as we drove in and decided to try it the next night. I really don’t know what to rate it because half our meals were good and half were bad. The food came VERY fast. Strangely fast. We ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes and he put it in before he came back to take our order. We hadn’t even half finished them before our food came. And the place was packed. My daughter tried the elk chops. Her first time trying elk at all and loved them. My husband got the buffalo prime rib and said it was pretty good. I got the top sirloin medium rare. It was more on the rare side but not a drop of blood on the plate… even when I cut into it. Which seemed strange. Like it had sat for awhile or something? It didn’t have any flavor at all and was a weird texture. My other daughter got a caesar salad that was wilty and soggy. The service was efficient and good so that’s a plus. I would never go back… but my daughter would so as far as a rating goes… maybe more a 2 ½.

Not a bad place. Food is good as compared to the others here in Jackson. Love the wildlife décor. Good basic steak house. Don’t expect to get blown away and you will be okay. They could upgrade the bread they serve. Not very good.

Ate there last week and didn’t want to give it a bad review at first, but after the other great places we tried in Jackson I felt obligated to do the review. I had the elk chop. The meat was well prepared but plain. The buffalo ribs that my wife had were a like fatty but good. The sweet potato side was good and the maple butter was a nice touch. My snaps or green beans could have used a little something, like spice or at the very least salt. The plates were pricey for what you received. You are herded through dinner. In summary, a chain like steak house with big game meat.

I have been coming to Jackson for 15 years and never went to this restaurant until last night. We waited 45 minutes for a table, but the food was worth the wait. Delicious steak, baked potato and the bread was fresh and tasty. The cocktails were just average in spite of their fancy and creative names.,

The décor is pure western tourist. The food is good and someone is watching the investment. I can’t say that the food is bad. It’s not. It’s pretty good but in my opinion, the price does not justify the quality. Service was good and so was the food; there’s just so much better for the money in the area. Good not great. Nothing at all bad, I simply found nothing great.
