I must disclose that Highfields is my former employer. That said, when I adopted two severely emotionally disturbed children I was mandated to get services, including Wrap Around Services, in order to get additional assistance for my sons. At the time I thought this was ridiculous, since the services mandated were ones I myself provided to other clients. I know community resources. I am a counselor. However, it was immediately evident that this agency was extremely beneficial for my family. They have gone above and beyond providing support, education, advocacy, and hands on assistance. They accompany us to psychiatric appointments, have waited in hospital rooms, called and checked on us all hours of the day and night, on weekends, holidays, and on their vacations. This past week I was ill and my husband had deadlines. There was a problem with one of my children’s medication refills. The HF worker corrected the issue with the medical staff, picked up the prescription, took it to the pharmacy, and against our protest showed up at our house at 6 pm on a Friday,(what should have been the start of her vacation) with dinner for our family. This is just one example of many. I cannot imagine a more beneficial, supportive program. It has been a Godsend. Without them I don’t know that we would’ve made it this far.
