Great chai, paratha, and dhal. It costs only $ 7 for a thali including rice, bread, and four dishes, which is a big deal. The food tastes like home cooking.

Their Paratha is so good! In addition with homemade yogurt and ajar takes you back to India! It’s a must with their hot tea.

Definitely get the tea«chai» here. It will remind you of India. It was delicious and had perfect amount of sugar and flavor added to it. I also tried the«Gajjar ka Halwa” — Carrot Halwa. It was fantastic and also had a good amount of dry fruits and sugar in it. I wish I was hungry enough to try other stuff on the menu because everything looked and sounded delicious. The staff is really friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely going back when I’m in the area again.

Once again we came back for more samosas as we’re still a bit afraid of trying other items that are already prepared. We prefer food that is cooked to order, especially if I’m bringing food to my parents. Even though this place has great reviews for its authenticity, we’re always apprehensive no matter what. The guy heated them up in the microwave. We also tried something round but I forgot the name of it, perhaps it was the aloo paratha, but it was really spicy, even for me. I prefer the samosas, too much potatoes in the other one. My mom has never tried Indian food, so I thought this was a good start. Who doesn’t like samosas. Surprisingly she did like them, but she’s on a strict diet, so she only had a bite of each. It has a lot of potatoes in it as well, which she can’t have. So many different spices and I do like that they mix peas in it. It wasn’t really spicy which is perfect for my mom. L really liked them, perhaps a bit more than when we initially tried them. However since this is a vegetarian place, I need to get some samosas with chicken for my mom. I really enjoy Indian food, but I highly doubt I’ll ever try to make it from scratch, so I’ll definitely return for more, especially since L likes them. Maybe one day I’ll try the curries.

Great food, very low prices. I always get the samosa chaat — it’s hard to branch out when it only costs $ 5 for a very filling meal with a ton of flavor. It’s fast to walk in and get takeout(you’ll likely have the samosa chaat in hand w/in 5 minutes of entering) or you can eat there, though it’s a small space and the tables are pretty crowded together. Pick up a fresh chai tea for $ 1 and remember to grab condiments(pickles and yogurt) from the communal pot/jar at the center of the counter. The people who work here are great and it’s fun watching them making chai, samosas and pakoras behind the counter.

Very nice bakery and place to eat. I recommend the samosas, the delicious bread pakora, and also the aloo paratha. The guy cashier is really friendly and always helps with any questions you got. One of the better Indian places I’ve been too, even though there is no meat here, it’s still worth a visit!

If you feel nostalgic and are looking for quick grab and go food from back home in Delhi then this is one of the better grab and go’s This is not a place for ambience, quiet dining so don’t expect that! The aloo and other para that’s are great, you can get your fingers all oily and finger lick them off for that final taste of south east Asia All the parathas are good, so is the dani vada and their chats

The parathas and subzis here are really good. It tastes like home cooked Indian food this is where we pick up food from when we don’t feel like cooking. It’s also a great place to come for a breakfast of cha and paratha. Mooli and aloo are my favorites. Very casual laid back sorta place. Some reviewers commented that the food tastes bland or unlike other restaurants. This is what everyday non-fancy Indian food tastes like.

I don’t understand why this place is rated high. Horrible customer service. Ordered deserts in advance and they weren’t ready. The Vicky guy kept saying 5 mins 10 mins and kept me waiting all day. Never ordering anything from this place again. The food here has no flavor unless you want to fill up your tummy just for the sake of it.

Good samosas and Vicky is a very good host. Try the besan Ladoo as well. They also have mirchi pakora which is a delight. Try some masala chai too.

Straight up Desi food. The parathas are filling, the kadi has huge gram flour chunks, and the karela sabzi is YUM. If you’re on the go, you can grab some dahi vada. They are generous with the yogurt and pickles.

I gave this place a try for its rave reviews. The food is very bland. I tried the halwa puri with chana. it is a joke not even remotely close to the authentic stuff. I would not return.

This is a casual little spot in Jackson Heights where they have a sweets section and a hot food bar as well. It’s a great place for very casual dining when the weather is nice(it can get uncomfortable hot in the warmer months). The staff are exceptionally friendly, especially at handling all the questions about food ingredients and prep from this white girl. Thankfully, they have plenty of legitimately vegetarian friendly options. Their bread pakora is amazing! Fried bread stuffed with spiced potatoes and veggies. YUM! The samosa was standard in flavors but I did appreciate that it was extra large and still hot. The curries and sauces are flavorful and delicious well! I’m fairly picky when it comes to Indian sweets, but they have a large assortment and there are a few I enjoy.

$ 7 dinner and I dont have to cook in the summer? Sign me up. There’s desserts, snacks, and hot meals. Upon my first visit, I tried a few pieces of different desserts. Dont remember each one, but they were good… As long as youre expecting an asian dessert… meaning its not too sweet. Most recently, had the $ 7 meal and picked out my dinner by pointing and guessing.(the woman behind the counter was friendly but didnt speak much English). Winded up with okra, potato curry, and a tumeric cabbage dish. They let me choose three things because I didnt get rice. Got some naan instead. Was very satisfied with my decision. Will be coming back again, perhaps fot the chat.

One of the most authentic places in the hood for some kick ass North Indian food. Well this neighbourhood has an overwhelming options when it comes to Indian food. I can say from my experience that this place has the best food as compared to the other places in the hood. I sometimes stop by in the evening to grab some fresh aloo parathas(potatoes stuffed in wheat flour) with curd which is very staple of the Sikh breakfast cuisine. The best part is that everything is made fresh in front of your eyes. I also tried the sweets here, they are just really awesome. The food is very reasonably priced. Well the ambience might not entice everybody, but I can forgo ambience for some really nice authentic food.

You can get chaat so easily in the Indian section of Jackson Heights, practically every food shop has their version. Last summer I wanted to have a chaat crawl and eat so much I started puking, so I grabbed a friend and hit up as many places as possible. Since then, the place I consistently return to for the street snack is Raja Sweets & Fast Food, which has the most potent sauce. As any other place, they have a list of five or six different fried dough varieties to base your chaat around, all costing $ 5. The one above is the samosa chaat, but I think my favorite is actually the papri chaat for its much more crunchy texture. Discerning what is part of this dish is quite a feat, but what you see are potatoes, chickpeas, dried ginger, tamarind sauce, chili, raw onions, and yogurt. They all mix so splendidly in your mouth, making chaat one of the best mid-afternoon snacks available. Raja also has an all you can eat buffet for $ 6, a great deal considering the quality of the food compared to the steam tables on 74th Street that most non-locals migrate to.
