One of the last things I expected when I stopped for lunch in rural Mississippi was to find a decent Italian beef sandwich. Sure, maybe some fried chicken, BBQ, or even a good hamburger, but I was looking for something out of the ordinary and I found it. While not the best sandwich I have ever had, you would have to see the place to understand why I was so surprised. I have been in more run-down places(an old BBQ joint in Fayetteville comes to mind), but this place has that unique combination of character and value, creating a memorable experience that you won’t soon forget. Obviously well know to the locals judging by the brisk take-out business, you would almost have to know it was there to find it. I passed it by(almost twice) before I finally spotted the 1970’s era plastic sign and pulled into the gravel parking lot. I got the half Italian beef sandwich which was a large portion of beef served on a food service sub bun and then dipped in au jus. I got the sandwich, onion rings, a root beer, left a 25% tip, and still had change from a $ 10 bill. If you are ever is that part of Northern Mississippi, stop in for a sandwich and a heapin’ helpin’ of true Americana!
