Kumon Math and Reading Center of Issaquah – Highlands

This Kumon is ok except the director of this Kumon can be little more parent friendly and have a pleasant attitude towards kids. Center rules can be explained to parents in a better way than pushing them out of the classroom rudely.
She always looks stressed out in the class with kids.
Staff and the assistant teachers are great. My younger kid who recently moved to the other side of the classroom, wants to still be in early learner section, because the teachers are great.
My kids have transferred from a different Kumon where in the instructor was much more friendly, patient and helpful to kids.

This place in the beginning came off nice and helpful but in the end it became a disappointment. First off, they do not work well with students who have disabilities. The staffs who work there do not have the training and knowledge in assisting students who have a learning disability. Which I understand because most of their staffs are students, and don’t have much experience with students who have a learning disability. But those who have degrees in education should have the experience with special education and should train the others on how to approach students who are cognitively slow. At first they seemed like they were helping my younger brother. But after noticing that he was having some trouble understanding his math homework, my father went in to talk with them and they had an unhappy conversation. Now, I understand that since my parents are immigrants and they are not fluent in the native language, there could have been some miscommunication. But in Issaquah there are a handful of Asians who go to Kumon that do not speak English well. Therefore, they should be used to interacting with non-​native parents. After that encounter, instead of resolving the problem and giving my brother the attention he needed, they just gave him the same homework again for the next few weeks. And when we go in to wait for my brother, the lady whom we had the conversation gave us the cold shoulder. How professional is that? I feel like we just wasted our money and time here and did not receive the benefits that they «say» were advertising. We have ended our time here and will never be coming back. This place may seem like they will help but evidently do not know how to handle students with a learning disability. It’s sad and unfortunate.
