Best candied ginger. Anywhere. The candied ginger at the Spice Bazaar in Istanbul was a very, very close second. Also the best egg salad sandwich I have every had, from the owner’s free-range chickens. An amazing wine and liquor selection. And staff ready to shoot the breeze with you if they’re not busy. We’ve been going to the Island Market for twenty years and it never fails to please. It’s my happy place.

As the nicest grocery store on the island, Island Market offers a huge range of prepared foods as well as typical name-brand packaged foods. Please do yourself a favor and try their baked goods. Lemon bread, coffee cake, fruit pies, the softest, richest chocolate chip cookies with or without nuts… and the list goes on. They also have prepared dinners in their freezers that can be bought and baked or cooked at home. As busy as they always are, the employees I met working behind the deli/seafood counter were friendly and helpful, and I think I even chatted with Loony herself as she prepared foods in the kitchen. Definitely a wonderful place on this wonderful island!
