Went there last Saturday about noon time… it was closed. Not sure if something happened just that day or the place is closed for good… bummer!

I went there with a group of about 10 colleagues last week. Half of them are Filipinos, so was looking forward to some great food. First off, the portion was quite small for what I paid. I had the beef steak, which was good, but it had a slight sourness, which I was told by my friend is the typical Filipino food as vinegar is used often in their diet. I’m ok with it, but it just didn’t have much other taste to it. Then they bring you this large plate with rice as you can see from some of the pictures posted. Why the large plate with just one scoop of rice? A bowl of rice would have been sufficient. Now, I went with a group, so when my food was out, it was barely room temp already. There were only 1 other table when we were there on a Friday lunch time. Not sure how they are surviving. It’s situated in a mostly Mexican side of the town, about 2 miles south of hwy183. The location and inside décor is very basic, which I don’t mind had the food been better. After wards, I decided to order their desert, Halo-Halo. It’s a similar desert that Chinese, and Vietnamese have using shaved ice and misc. fruits, and condensed sweet milk and such. I’m not sure what fruits were used, but they were not the fresh type. I’m certain they were canned, so not much taste other than just sugar and ice. I really wanted to give more stars to this place as my Filipino friends seemed to enjoyed it more than I. Perhaps it was more the memory that they had of their mom’s home cooking, but it’s really just 2 stars for me. I’m sorry for the harsh review on this as I’m always rooting for the small business owners, but in this case, I don’t see them surviving for the long term. Good luck.

Thank you to Ms Carol and her staff for a great after church meal. My mother and I were looking for something light to get us through till dinner and we ended up being so full we didn’t eat again until late that evening! The food is flavorful and authentic(I’ve eaten alot of Filipino food) and the service is fast and courteous. Although I no longer live in the area, I will definitely return on my next visit home and my mom is now a fan !!!

I came here with my dad for lunch, since we were in the area running some errands together. His wife is from the Philippines, and we’ve been looking for a good Filipino restaurant for awhile. Manila Sun is very no-frills. There are maybe ten or fifteen tables around the room, with a television on the wall that plays Filipino TV. We came in early, only about fifteen minutes after they opened. We were greeted immediately by a friendly woman, who told us we could sit wherever. They’re only open Wednesday through Sunday, and they have different menu items every day. They were out of menudo on the day we went. We decided to order chicken adobo and beef steak to share. The portions weren’t huge or anything, but they were pretty reasonable for the price — only $ 8 or $ 9 a plate. Our server offered more rice if we needed it, but the amount we got was perfect for us. We placed a rather large order to-go for my dad’s wife, which did take a long time to come out, but it was about eight items, so it wasn’t entirely unexpected. They apologized for it taking so long, as well. Since they didn’t have menudo, they offered barbecue instead. All in all, a nice little family-owned place. We saw quite a few people come in after we left, as well. I’ll definitely be back whenever I get a craving!

Nice filipino restaurant that has some good/bad points: (a) GOOD — the place has good tasting food and is run like a family restaurant where relatives come and go and the food is cooked by the owners(i think) themselves. I had the lechon kawali and mechado all served with rice — very tasty. The place was clean and the prices were very reasonable. The location is also very convenient being between FW/Dallas and on a main road as well. Anyway, plan on visiting on different days so as to sample as much of the food as possible. (B) BAD — the only«bad» thing I can remember was the décor, which really is minor if you are there for the food. So, I am sure this will change as the folks occupy their new place in the coming months. Again, do not be deterred by the décor, the food is the main draw. I would also like to see limitless rice since I eat everything with rice. Summary: Manila Sun is certainly worth the drive and the food is great. Most filipino restaurants seem to vary the menu daily so I will come back when they serve my favorites.

So I honestly feel bad for also giving this place 3 stars, but 3 means«A-OK» on Unilocal and 4 means«Yay! I’m a fan», which I don’t entirely agree with. I was leaning towards 2 since that’s «Meh, I’ve experienced better», but I consider a 2 a place that isn’t worth your time. Also I feel bad because everyone here seems super nice and this is a startup business so I don’t want them to lose any customers, but I want to give a review where I’m not influenced by a personal relationship with employees. I’ve been to many small places where the inside is similarly bare but the food is AMAZING(tons of Indian, Korean, Mediterranean, Mexican… etc. hole in the wall places that don’t look«American» but you go there for the food). I was hoping this would be a nice hole in the wall too but the food is just only ok. I went in of course not expecting my moms cooking, but I’d rather go get Filipino food in Plano for a cheaper price and better taste. I also observed a couple seat themselves while I was waiting for my food. After some time of not being waited on, they left! Maybe if there was a bell on the door they would know when someone walked in. I ordered some lechon and diniguan, food came out fast. Lechon wasn’t cut small enough and was too hard. The diniguan was thick and has a creamy texture, which I do not prefer but hey maybe you do. The side of sinigang soup was good. It’s hard to come by Filipino food around here, so if you’re close by to Irving it’s worth trying.

Without a doubt my favorite place to eat pinoy food… so yummy to the last bite. Try their dinuguan, guinataang gulay, lechon kawali, menudo, crispy pata, pancit bihon and halo-halo as finale… Easy to find, fast service and most importantly, this place is clean as a whistle! …I brought several friends and they loved it too!

I believe this place opened up recently because I just noticed it weeks ago on a usual drive through Irving. It doesn’t appear the owners have a dedicated website either for their restaurant, but they do have a Facebook page. The food was better than I expected for a Filipino restaurant not located in California or Houston, TX. The menu varies with each day, so when I went I got pancit and sinigang. Both were tasty and were delivered to the table in a timely fashion. Going inside the restaurant was pretty awkward though. No one greeted me when I entered. It was spacious with too many tables for the few customers. The host/hostess counter was all the way in the back of the room. The ambiance is lacking heavily. The waitress(owner maybe?) was super nice though and friendly. They show the Filipino channel sometimes, and other times play slightly inappropriate shows. This place is probably better for takeout and not for dining in.
