I had been to this resto many times. This is a typical Tamil Nadu style restaurant, that’s when you find most of the peppers in most of their dishes. You will find very friendly staff here. Great hospitality. I would recommend, Thali or Dosa Chicken curry. Biryani here is not the best. For the value, i find it a bit expensive.

I’m a fan. Their Sukka varuval is outstanding. The service ain’t great, but the food is really good and makes up for the slow service. Your food will always come before the plates and silverware. Without exception. Try not to order North Indian.

Typical Chettinad food that you come to expect of Anjappar. They didn’t disappoint. Spicy, good flavor and quick service for lunch. Tried the mutton liver roast, Anjappar chicken masala, kadai vegetable with Nattu Kozhi Biriyani. Loved everything. The only not so good thing was the plain rice which was mushy and probably overlooked. Ambience is just about ok and nothing fancy. The four stars is for the good food.

I had such a high hopes for this place, it comes the closest to traditional South Indian food that’s actually tasty. However, cleanliness is a huge problem here. How big of a problem? I saw a mouse scurry across the dining room floor on a Friday night. So did my dad. Never coming back.

Horrible place. Saw a lizard roaming under our table. I decided to leave the place and asked for a to-go box. The girl at the counter got a to-go box which had ants crawling in it. When I complained to her she said that generally doesnt happen. There was no manager at site as well. I had to leave the place without eating anything and had to pay in full. I was told that they can not do anything because manager isnt there so I will have to pay. Also did not receive rice with the entrée. Almost everyone was complaining around us for poor service. Stay away from this place.

Food is decent and menu have lot of items to choose from. but don’t treat their customers really well… they did not let us doggy bag our thali and told us that they will not split the bill as they are busy. charged us for some chilli flakes too… now I know how they are in business… lol!

Ordered out. Got the chicken tikka masala. The gravy/sauce was pretty good however the chicken was really dry and hard to chew. Wasn’t sure if they just over cooked it or it was not fresh. That’s why I gave it low rating. I may, may go back again and order the same thing and see if it will make me change my review.

Great place for authentic chettinad food. We were there on Saturday for family lunch. Food was awesome and the service was excellent. We ordered lollipop chicken, fish fry, non veg meals, kids cone dosa, masala dosa etc. All of them were very tasty. Meals was excellent since all the side curries and fish gravy were very tasty. Dosas were big in size and the portion size was on the generous side. Average price per entry was around $ 10. We ordered mango milk shake for dessert which was also excellent. If you visit Dallas Metro area check this place out! Very highly recommend!!!

I’m not trying to step on people’s toes and I don’t like telling people on Unilocal their opinion is wrong, but clearly, this place deserves a better rating than it has. Some people are critical of individual experiences they had with the service, and as to the authentic Southern Indian taste I cannot comment, but I came in at 12:50PM, ate the awesomest Indian business executive vegetarian lunch evuh, and by 1:15 I was out the door, about $ 16 lighter, and so happy I could hardly stand it. I’ve been back twice since, once with friends and once alone and all three times now it has been a great experience, and all three times now Joseph, either a manager or an owner, has come by my table, shook my hand, and offered to answer any questions about the menu, the restaurant, or Indian cuisine in general. Drops mic.

Tried their Thali and all their egg dishes! For the life of me, I can’t understand the low rating for this place. This has now become the place I definitely visit when I am in Dallas. A shout out to Gopi, he knows his stuff. When he suggested a friend not to order one of the fried fish dishes to go, but to savor at the restaurant, he took time to explain why. A good Indian restaurant, with great south Indian hospitality and character! Love it! Love it! Love it!

If you are looking for anything vegetarian, don’t even think of this place. Worst Indian Veg food I had ever had! Had been here thrice and never had a chance to eat good Veg food! A big thumbs down!

Okay food. You will leave feeling frustrated at quality and freshness of fish. We were served a REFRIED fish where the fish was so dry inside I could have weaved basket from its fibers! Dosa mediocre ! Chutney old and from previous days! And on top of all that, you hv to beg for water, straw, and refill water. Never bother to ask if we need anything. Requested to add onion to uttappam. We were charged extra for it., really for onion extra $$ Don’t spend your money… Go to other authentic restaurants out few miles away !

Some background about Anjappar & Chettinad cuisine. Chettinad is region in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, origin of a business community called chettiars. They added their own flair to the southern Indian cooking with their masterful blend of spices. While their food was always popular, Anjappar & its various branches across India and the world is the flagbearer of this food culture. And they do a very good job of it. Provided you order the eponymous chettinad food. It is sad that they have the length & breadth of Indian food reflected in their menu, whereas, I feel they would do well if they focused on their core competence. I recommend asking for suggestions and generally sticking to south Indian items. We ordered the Nathu Kozhi Chicken Biryani(Wild chicken cooked in spices & rice), Chicken Chettinad(chicken pieces pan fried in mixture of spices & coconut), Mutton Sukka varuval(lamb morsels fried with spices) & chicken kothu paratha(minced chicken and strips of Indian bread in, guess what, spices). All washed down with some Indian beer called Kingfisher. Don’t even dare ask for a spice level on these food items. The spice level is, take it or leave it. That’s when you know the place means business when they don’t ask you how spicy you want your food. They would if you order the North Indian items, which I suggest, you don’t. The service was good, the food is the 5 star.

This is the third time we are going to the anjappar restaurant since it opened in Irving last year, and the food quality has improved a lot!! The first time, the food was insanely spicy and my husband literally had tears rolling down. The second time the biryani was warmed up on the outside but was still cold in inside! The fish and parotta were good and for once anjappar had surprised us. We paid our bill and left. After a week we noticed that they have charged us an extra $ 5.00 on the bank account. When the transaction was disputed online, we got the $ 5.00 back. They have added an extra 15% unapproved tip with our bill. It may be a good idea to pay cash here or to double check the amount charged on your credit card!

Went in on a Saturday night around 7pm. Good customer service for that hour and day of week. I ordered the authentic appam meal(two pancake/dosa types pieces made of rice flour) that were served with coconut milk and this mixed vegetable dish. The appam was just light enough to melt in my mouth and crispy enough to keep me coming back for seconds and I wasn’t even hungry prior to coming in. My friend ordered a chicken biryani and devoured her meal as well. She did make a note that her food was super spicy even by South Indian standards so keep that in mind if you plan to head towards the south portion of the menu. :) We also ordered the crazy priced falooda which was $ 7.50! For a dessert, that is insane. It was definitely decent and just sweet enough but not worth the same cost as our entrees! Overall, will definitely return here to try more of the South Indian menu items as this restaurant caters to that cuisine quite well!

Got food to-go multiple times here now and the quality of the food was always good. Haven’t tried thali since thy give that for to-go so not sure if that got any better. But this place deserves to be 5 star for chettinad(Tamil) non-veg cuisine. Recent A+ food inspection rating is a cherry on top!

I have visited this place many times with my family. At the beginning food was good and service was ok. But after that each visit we found that the quality of food and the service spiraling down. Tonight is our last visit in this place. Here are the reasons: 1. We looked up and the air vents were so dirty. That tells you the cleanliness of this place. 2. I asked for ice water with lemon. Server brought plain water and told me he will bring ice cubes separately!!! Really? Then he brought onions and lemons. Who put onion flavored lemon in the water? But ice cubes never arrived and our server disappeared. 3. They stopped serving samosa. Really how can you be an Indian place without samosa? 4. Chicken tikka masala was not that great. 5. Do not expect any levels of customer service. They are not trained servers. They don’t have a clue about serving. They are not attentive at all. Do you pay them tip? No never. The management has to make serious changes in their strategy if they would like to see success. They must hire and train quality servers snd staff. We ended up ordering one dish and then went to another Indian place called«Our place» and had a great dinner experience.
