Sylvan Learning of Irvine

My twin daughters are in Kindergarten. I noticed one of them seemed to more excited about playing games with letters and phonics than the other (Kennedy). I also knew that homework was much more frustrating, for both of us, with Kennedy. I wrote it off as «kids just develop at different paces. It’s only Kindergarten.» until their teacher, indicated that she was concerned that Kennedy was way behind the rest of the class in reading and phonics, having trouble recalling letters and sounds. Knowing that a strong, confident educational foundation is fundamental to life-​long success, I had to do something.
That evening, I started researching programs, calling friends, teachers and tutors, as well as reading reviews (like this one), and making appointments to visit centers in Irvine and the surrounding areas. After about 4 – 5 days of research, phone calls, and visiting multiple tutoring centers, I decided to send her to Sylvan Irvine. This is why:
— Personalized learning plans for each student
— Non-​competitive environment. Everyone has their own successes.
— Never more than 3 students per tutor, often less
— They work on assigned homework from school, rather than giving additional homework
— They work at a pace that pushes the student to be better, but doesn’t stress them
— It’s a small environment where all the staff knows the students and the students know all the staff
We signed up for a 4 month program, after a 1 on 1 assessment, that Kennedy thoroughly enjoyed– often thought it was a fun game. She couldn’t wait to start. After about 6 weeks of tutoring, she is reading sentences! She’s reading street signs as we drive down the road. She’s sounding out 4 syllable words and not getting angry when I ask her to «sound it out». She’s enjoying homework! And she LOVES taking successful work from school to Sylvan to show her tutors how well she is doing in school. They celebrate her/​their successes with her. The confidence I see in her will drive her to want to be a better student the rest of her education.

Waste of time a lots of money. The center director, Trischa Romo, is manipulative and dishonest. Also the woman can’t spell at all. She had spelling mistakes on every handout and in every email she sent me. Goes to show how well qualified staff is at this center. Teachers are rude to students and don’t even expect students to stay long enough in the program to excel. Essentially, this center is concerned about one thing. Your money. Go to Laguna Niguel instead! ! Much better service.

I am so happy with sylvan learning center. My daughter ashley started in may 2015 she was in 4^th grade at 2 grade level. Every time I had conferences with her teacher she was
friend told me about this program and highly recommend me to sylvan. Ashley is now at her grade level and she is extremely confident in herself and happy. Thanks to Trisha Romo and Laura Barwick and the staff for helping my ashley to catch up. I am am now having my little one in too. Thank you girls are the best. I am a happy parent. I highly recommend it to any parent that are looking for some help for thier child.

I;ve been an educator for many years and truly believe that at times extra support’s needed. Sylvan at Irvine’s far from providing this. These 5 star reviews are most likely fake. I had my daughter evaluated and she’s only 5 years old. they’re charging tons of money for a service that de not make sense. How can you have a 5 or 6 or 7 year old work in a group with students a lot older? if these kids need reading skills– the ONLY way to accomplish this goal, is to work on the individual components of reading or more importantly PHONICs in a 1:1 scenario. Our kids are lacking skills (the ones that need these sort of services) because the school system cannot provide the 1:1 they truly need.
to me they’re all about the money and not about the fact that every child walking through those doors need an individualized program.

Sylvan work around the student needs to reach their full potential. I love the regular testing and my daughter loves the friendly environment.

All I have to say is what a blessing it’s been having my son go to sylvan his test scores have made a major improvement and his teacher couldn’t even express how proud of him she is and how great he is doing plus the live for reading he has now we are extremely grateful for the work they have done with him. Thank you sylvan team you guys are amazing keep up the good work

Sylvan Irvine is ABSOLUTELY worth your valuable time and resources! The invaluable guidance of Trischa Romo and Laura Barwick allowed my children to blossom. My daughter made the honor roll for the first time and both of my children are now at the TOP of their classes.
I highly recommend Sylvan Irvine. I initially did not realize that Sylvan centers are individually managed. After our first experience with Sylvan in Mission Viejo, we had serious doubts about Sylvan but after spending time in Irvine, I can say that your children will be in good hands. The team at Sylvan Irvine is very helpful, kind and attentive, and they created individual plans for each one of my children which led to success.

With all the tutoring companies in Irvine and a University with lots of students looking for tutoring positions, there is no reason to sign up for massive amounts of tutoring at this place. You can easily find a tutor for the $ 45 an hour which is what you are going to spend to have your kid sit with 2 other kids and one of their «teachers». They don’t want to show you –the kids work or talk to you without an appointment. The other kids are doing different assignments. I really don’t like a company that makes you sign up for a specific amount of classes. Then trying taking time off to go on vacation in the summer the owner actually uses the words «I’ll forgive some classes» Forgive? You can take a limited amount of time off but you can only make up those classes in a limited time. Better to go with a tutor where you can pay as you go. If you don’t like the tutor you can hire another one. The big sales pitch is they say they know what the kid needs. You can download the CA standards yourself. There are no shortage of tutors in Irvine. Do yourself and your kid a favor and try something else.
