I’ve had 2 of my kids play in this recreation league for many years — when it was called Junior Blades and now Slammers Academy League. My kids had very positive experiences and continue to enjoy playing soccer. The team coaches are volunteer parents who can attend a coaches clinic to learn fundamentals. Practices are 1 night a week with games on Saturdays. There is a professional skills clinic one day a week where the kids can learn additional skills from professional Challenger Sports coaches. 1. Lets be fair: the reviews here are mixed between the Slammers club league and the recreation league. These reviews should only be for the rec program. 2. There is a Newport club league and an Irvine club league — find the correct page and put your reviews there. 3. Just as an FYI to one of the posts for the club league — the majority of coaches with the accents are ENGLISH, not Scottish. Know your region… My kids played both AYSO and Slammers JAL. I find the Junior Academy League to be a bit more organized and challenging. It’s also a great opportunity for a talented soccer player to move to club… then MLS… then World Cup…

My daughter played with their league for about 5 seasons. She was invited to try out for higher level team. We went to try outs and waited and waited for an answer, many emails to the director and other coaches were sent but all we got was a few promises and no answer… As an adult Incan deal with this, but what am I suppose to tell my daughter about this? That they don’t care about her? That they forgot about her? When we finally got an answer we did not even got a «I am sorry, we did not keep our promise of letting you know in a few days» or a simply«Sorry». Absolutely nothing more than a generic rejection email. Before you sign up your child to this organization think twice if you want to put her/him to a similar experience.

Player beware! Our daughter played soccer for one of the Slammers teams several years ago. She was asked to join the Slammers when she was 13 by one of the coach’s. That coach left and another coach took over who is still with the club. At first he was pleasant but then he started disliking some of the girls. He became increasingly abusive both verbally and psychologically. He would use the F word on them and told one of the girls that her parents must be embarrassed by her since she played so bad. He threatened our daughter that he wasn’t going to play her when there were college coaches at one of the tournaments who were there for recruiting purposes. There are some good coaches in the club but shame on a soccer club that would allow that kind of behavior from anyone. Needless to say many girls left the team. I would give the Slammers no stars if I could. Our son was with a different club team and ALL his coach’s were respectful to all the boys. I’m going to Unilocal them now and give them 5 stars!

I did not find the Scottish dudes to be rude as the previous Unilocal reviewer posted. Bottom line is soccer games were all held at the same park so there was no shuffling or confusion as to where to go week by week. I got what I paid for and didn’t get shafted.

Very un-professional bunch of scottish guys. Rudes and arragaont. Much better options out there than these clowns…
