Starting at 6:30pm every Tuesday and Thursday, the Sierra Club has done a very popular conditioning hike in the hills and sidewalks of Turtle Rock. These began in 1979 and have been their longest running scheduled hikes. Hikers meet at the Turtle Rock Community Park parking lot off of Turtle Rock Drive. The parking lot ALWAYS fills up, without fail, so overflow parking is on Southern Wood. Google maps(satellite view) is your friend. You need to be there at least 10 minutes before, in order to hear the mandatory briefing, sign the liability waiver, and break up into groups(slow, moderate, and fast paced). Most will wear either trail shoes or hiking boots. Water and a fanny pack is also recommended. Depending on the time of year, a sweatshirt, light jacket, or flashlight is also recommended. They leave the parking lot exactly at 6:30, and return right around 8pm. Approx distance is 2 – 4 miles with some of the best views in Orange County! There’s an average of 70 people(give or take, depending on the time of year, weather, etc…) per hike, and 96 hikes per year. If you think you’re ready for the fast group, be sure to bring your A game. You WILL be tested!
