The barbeque chicken sandwich is to die for! Tender meat, sweet bold barbeque, your choice of toppings, what could go wrong? The baked potatoes are great too. Although we usually do takeouts, the restaurant itself is great. Clean and spunky, with a lot of university history to look at. They also have a couple arcade games I think. The staff is courteous and helpful. And the prices are AMAZING! Well worth your buck.

Nice sandwiches for the price. I got the smaller size, was very happy with the size, toppings, and quality of the product. Got the red pepper special one that was very good and would get that sandwich again. With friendly service and a great value this is a great choice for any sandwich lover.

I really enjoy this place. The subs are very tasty and very reasonably priced. Great selection of sandwiches. The soups are fabulous. My only complaint is while the potatoes are tasty i feel they are way over priced relative to other things on menu

Wife had large Ruben and clam chowder, daughter had chicken salad with chips and I had the Philly with onions and green peppers, chips and chili. No body could finish their food as it was so much. Everything was very good and worth the money. The chili was thick and full of meat and beans which is hard to find in many restaurants. The wife loved her chowder and was amazed that a large Ruben was two sandwiches together. The only problems where the building it was in was run down and a new restaurant shouldn’t have to go into a cruddy building. The other item was I expected the grilled beef in my sandwich to be salted and it wasn’t. It needed just a little salt to bring out the wonderful flavors of the sandwich and I will know this for next time. I will be back.

It was pretty busy today, at 12:30, only four seats left in the place, that was encouraging. Decided to try the reuban sandwich on rye and some Clam chowder. The Clam chowder was way watered down, the lack of ingredients made it easy to count 4 tid bits of clam” and 5 bits of potato. The reuban sandwich was very disappointing, they call it rye bread but it looks and tastes like thin sliced texas toast. for the price, we both thought that they were niggardly with the sauerkraut and meat. they need to get out of the reuban sandwich business . A neighbor said that we should have tried the sub sandwiches, «thats what they are known for» so we will give them a try next time, I guess.

Don’t worry… the Hungry Hobo name may be gone but the Red Pepper Grill carries on about the same. As a native Quad-Citian it was always nice to have a taste of home close by. Even the order numbers have stayed the same(#6, EOP — T!). Cold and hot sandwiches, paninis, loaded potatoes, they’re all still here served up made to order.

I like the soup and potatoes better than the subs here! The potatoes are huge and piled with toppings. They have awesome Wisconsin cheese soup. Very quick for lunch time as well.

Road tripping through Iowa City and a nice option instead of chain fast food. It is only 2.4 miles off the freeway by the airport. Ordered 1 cold and 1 hot sandwich on their white bread. Bread was a sub bun and very tasty and fresh. Ingredients in our sandwiches were ample in portions, fresh, but nothing special. Biggest disappointment was the chicken wild rice soup. It was cream based but flavorless, watery, and had minimal wild rice. Staff was friendly and service was quick as we got it to go and promptly were back on the road.

While this isn’t a Hungry Hobo anymore, you can still use their numbering system to order. Having grown up in the Quad Cities this is important. The local+Hawkeye sports posters and über-friendly staff give this place a great, down-to-earth feel. it is one of my favorite places to eat in my adoptive hometown.

Good for quick sammies but the parking is hard to deal with some days.

Don’t waste your time at a chain sandwich shop this place has the best subs & spuds in Iowa City. Great bread and the Taco Tato is spectacular.

I love the Red Pepper! It has great soups, baked potatoes(with lots of toppings) and yummy sandwiches. Anything you order is fast, fresh, and delicious. I also love the local feel of it, with lots of Iowa stuff on the walls! Their delivery is always pretty fast and the staff are all friendly.

Arrived at noon and just beat the line out the door. Had a turkey breast sandwich. The bread was very good! I think it was worth the out-of-the way stop. It was obviously the lunch choice for construction workers and Iowa University staff members.

Cute place. The King is worth the price, as is the BBQ. Nice for lunch.

I was so happy to find a staple sandwich place in IC. The bread is what gets me. It’s soft, delicious and puts Subway and JimmyJohn’s to shame. Pass on the chains! The meat is fresh and the topping can go anyway you like. While you may have to patient with the high school kids who work there, the owner is super friendly and remembers a face. Despite the radio advertisements you hear, the IC Hungry Hobo doesn’t do the Taco Tuesdays(other location). Such a bummer, the Taco Tater is AMAZING. P. S. Their chili is yummy too!

Bread tastes kind of like a croissant. Bread is soft and king size sandwich is quite filling. No frills sandwich spud place with good food. King size roast beef, bag of chips, and fountain drink ran me about $ 8.90 but king size sandwich is big and can be eaten as two meals.
