The Burford House Inn

We arrived at the Buford House Inn at 11pm, later than we planned due to a flat tire. Mark greeted us outside. Our room on the third floor was marvellously renovated and very spacious. The bathroom was very clean and also very new. Breakfast was good. Overall, a very pleasant stay. We wish we could have extended it.

The Burford House Inn is a skillfully restored B&B in the heart of Iowa City, IA. The beautiful park and tree-​lined streets will greet you as you easily find street parking (or use provided parking when lot is completed). After walking through the large porch you’ll make your way through a coded entry front door to a gorgeous main living space. This is likely where Mark will welcome you and set you up with your accommodations. If you take a look around downstairs you notice a dining room equipped with the usual B&B breakfast must-​have; coffee, cereal, toaster, hot water, tea, etc. You will also find two cozy sun-​drenched living spaces with wonderful views of the park. There’s plenty of seating and reading materials. The décor enhances the character of each room and peak your interest throughout your stay. Heading up the stairs you will hear a bit of creaking. Don’t be a lame-​o and complain. Its part of the charm of the old home and you really can’t hear it from within the rooms. Each room is different but they all have TV, private bath, plenty of storage, comfy mattresses and seating, ample lighting including tons of natural light, fridge/​freezer, great WiFi and individual keys. The bathrooms are very nice, especially the showers! As incredible as the B&B can be, it’s Mark who’s the real star of the operation. He cares deeply about his guests, the home and the B&B experience. You will find him to be extremely accommodating with with everything from dietary restrictions to arrival times. You’d have to be a major grump not to find him to be a wonderful, caring host. His mad baking skills solidify his position as a master B&B operator and will spoil your appetite for the rest of the day. There is a heck of a lot more I could say but its time for you to find out for yourself. And with rates consistently lower than the neighboring Sheraton why would you stay anywhere else!
