My favorite nail salon in the Iowa city area. Very modern, clean and well kept. They remember me by name and always treat me well. They do great work for a good price. It’s worth the drive to the east side of Iowa city but I always recommend it to everyone!

I thought this place was going to be okay as it was moderately busy when I was in, but the lady who did my nails kept grinding my skin and painted the tips completely different on each hand. Unfortunately, as soon as I got home, one of my nails broke, too.

I came here for a regular manicure. The price was right and the end result looked fine, but some of their practices were questionable. The woman clipped my cutlcles(I regret that I didn’t tell her not to), and it also appeared that the cuticle nipping tool they were using wasn’t regularly cleaned. The plastic cover on the end of it was dirty. At the end, they put my hands under a UV light even though I didn’t do a gel manicure. They said it would help the nails dry faster, but it seemed a bit odd to me.

I have been to this place several times and each time I go I wonder why I came back. I saw some pretty scary things today so this will be my last time. While i was sitting in the chair getting my pedicure, two ladies next to be finished and left. Another woman came in and they plopped her down in one of the chairs and stuck her feet in the bowl that wasn’t cleaned out! I wish i had said something. i feel terrible I didn’t as i would want to know. I also saw a technician pick up the tools that were just used on me and went over to start her nails, again without cleaning! The only good, conscientious one there is one of the younger girls. She is worth going for, but you aren’t guaranteed to get her.

This was a pretty bad pedicure. The wait for them to start was about thirty minutes in the water when i had just called To see if i could come in. Then the clipping and filing was a quick job that left my nails uneven and with skin left in the corners. The paint was quick, too, and the French tip was uneven and took up half of my nail until i asked for it to be fixed. I didn’t ask for a fix a second time only because it took so long to get started. My friend was with and had the same issues.

I’ve only been to K & Q nails once, but had a great experience. I walked in for a pedicure and they took me quickly. They have a lot of color choices and a few different polish brands. The pedicure was thorough, but still quick and it only cost $ 20. They have a frequent customer card to earn rewards and a coupon in Valpack so it’s definitely worth a try. I’ll be going back.

I have tried a few nail places in Iowa City with no luck and this one is no exception. I went in with high hopes and the place had a few customers and looked clean. The manager was very nice and but the service was SLOW. They had three employees there but the few people they were giving pedicures got there before me and did not even have their nails painted by the time I left. I waited about 15 minutes(even though the women was talking on the phone with doing my nails) which is not bad but the other people there told me they had been waiting for a long time. The polish selection was mediocre at best, they had maybe 25OPI selections while the others were cheap brands from Walgreens. They even had a few from The Icing!(That old store like Claire’s that was open in the 90’s). Most of the polish looked very old and had separated in the bottle. Also, one of the employees had her son in the shop who, while very cute, interrupted the woman doing my nails every 20 seconds and then continuously blew his nose into tiny pieces of paper towel and left them the the counter where I was having my nails done. Then, and I am not lying here, when the lady massaged my hands, she gave the little boy lotion and he rubbed my other hand, and no one said anything!(By the way this was after the point where he had his fingers in his nose) Usually at nail salons they take your payment before they paint your nails but they did not do that here so when I took my wallet out I smudged my nails but there was no way I was waiting for them to fix it. On top of that they did not have the UV light tables to dry your nails, they just had fans so my nails took quite a while to dry. Needless to say I will continue my search for a nail salon in Iowa City. They are building one on Clinton Street by Shorts Burgers so hopefully it will be better.
