I was here last year for a conference and happened to read about this place. I loved it! Unfortunately, this year we were out of delivery range, so I had to go pick it up. My whole family came this year and we ordered this for our first night meal after a long day of traveling. The food is AMAZING. Just the right amount of flavor for us! The portions per person were decent sized. We all ordered our own calzones, and added stix and bacon cheesy tots for our sides. We loved the taste of the dough and the ingredients tasted fresh. Flavor wasn’t overpowering. Just all around good meal. It was quick and easy and reasonably priced. We did happen to order on a night where the calzones were 2 for $ 10. We will probably be back every year for awhile, and I’m going to make it a point to stop here. The only reason for the 4 instead of a 5 is because of the delivery area. I would have tipped well if they would deliver out here, which I know is not that far from the place I stayed last year, like less than a half mile.

If you’re looking for an authentic slice of Italian goodness this is not the place for you. Much like how Panchero’s is «Mexican food», DP Dough is gooey and filling comfort food. For $ 7.25 you get a calzone the size of your face filled with various meats and cheeses and some sauce. I recommend the Danger Zone(reminded me of Archer so I had to try it) with a side of their habanero sauce. It’s pretty good and there’s never a line, but I would still recommend to order ahead. Also if you’re not a huge fan sober, it might taste better as fourth meal.

DP Dough is a unique experience that everyone should try at least once. The food is really delicious and doughy. They have some good veggie choices. Be sure to visit their website for nutrition info. Most menu options have lots of calories and carbs. So, it’s fun for an occasional treat, but possibly not something to get hooked on for people with insulin resistance or a slow metabolism. :-)

Customer service sucks, they messed up my order giving me meat when I’m a vegetarian. Their excuse is to blame the customer for not ordering correctly, apparently telling them what you want inside is not good enough. You have to explicitly state you want a «construction zone.» I own restaurants, I would never talk down to a customer like that after giving them meat when they’re vegetarian!

The food was overpriced for the quality. Also despite getting there before a huge rush, they took nearly 40 minutes to make my calzone. Then when my name was called to pick up my food the lady nearly didn’t give me my order. Only after I verified what my order was and when the person she was trying to give it to insisted that it wasn’t their order did she hesitantly give me my food. Medicore, slow, and rude customer service. Never again will I give them my money.

I was ecstatic when a DP Dough opened up in Iowa City about a year ago. Their service and food quality is superb and affordable. They offer a wide variety of inexpensive calzones, often giving away free menu items and also utilizing a $ 5 «zone of the day» deal. On top of affordability, they provide free delivery for any amount of food, and the delivery times are fairly short. It’s refreshing to see a newer calzone place with solid brand recognition in a city heavily saturated with traditional pizza places. My only recommendation would be introducing some type of reward punch card similar to Oasis and Which Wich.

Great food every time. Have never let me down. I’ve cook in the restaurant industry for 6 years and these guys are rock star workers… I ordered at midnight and it was one of the best munchies I’ve had in a minute ;)

This place has become my friends and my favorite place to stop In on our way home after our long nights out. DP dough offers a variety of different concoctions to try, and they are always willing to mix Anything up for you or swap out ingredients! Not to mention the food, but the staff who work here are a blast. Not to mention the owner Amelia. She is awesome, a sweetheart and a true business lady! Who wouldn’t get to know her regulars, or get them in on the latest game of cranium while we wait for our DP dough? Besides the awesome staff, they have some of the cleanest bathrooms in Iowa city. So hit that up, and not to mention draw something fun on the chalkboard!

you want to get your money swindled? come here. these mofos charged me extra $ 2 for the«construction zone». $ 7.50 for 4 ingredients. grilled chicken was in there as part of the ingredients. down below it says additional grilled chix for $ 2. cool, not getting additional chix just get it as part of the 4. well they still charged the $ 2…according to them grilled chicken is extra. well then, grilled chicken shouldn’t be in the big list at all… complete bs. oh, and they even messed up my order… gave me cheddar or Monterey Jack instead of mozzarella, as I requested. didn’t bother to tell them as I was hungry. one other thing: they started serving guacamole with there bfast calzones so they were trying to get rid of them… don’t bother, it ain’t real guac. too much acidity, they skimped on the avocado of course.

This place is amazing — I love the spinner zone and the buffer zone so much that I don’t want to stray but I feel like any of the calzones would be FABULOUS. They are big enough that just one will last me for two meals. I have to stop here every time I visit my family in Cedar Rapids. And can I talk for a moment about the blue cheese dressing? Never before anywhere have I found so many blue cheese chunks in my delicious dressing. I always order extra and put it on everything. Every time I’ve been there during the daytime there is an eclectic mix of people, from families to college students — it always looks like everyone is happy. It is open super late though for a post-bar fix. Best Calzone I’ve ever had(and I live near enough to NYC that I can get my ‘authentic’ Italian fix on whenever I please. I have tried a.lot.of. calzones).

Anyone who gives this place a good review hasn’t experienced an authentic calzone. DP Dough is another example of the commercialization and cheapening of ethnic food. It’s market are drunk college students, so let’s not pretend it’s anything else. The quality of the product is okay. Can we just call it something else? Big hot pockets?

Dude, I love DP Dough, and once they get the online ordering settled, I’ll be super happy. I love the UIUC franchise, and this one’s just as solid. Calzones are great, wings are pretty okay – so go with the calzones. My favorite is the spinner zone(spinach, cheese blend, ricotta), which is darned tasty, but the buffer zone(chicken, blue cheese, hot sauce, cheese blend) is to die for. I think I’ll add hot sauce to more of my calzones in the future. Delivery is hit or miss – they’ve gotten to me in 20ish minutes on a Friday/Saturday, but they’ve also taken 40 – 50 minutes(and by then you have a cold calzone). They have monthly deals – two/$ 10 Wednesdays and a Calzone of the Day that’s $ 5. Make sure you ask if you’re calling. Apparently their cookies are also the shit.

Whoa! This place is awesome! I had a feeling it would be good, happy my gut feeling was right. They serve several types of calzones that you can order for under $ 7. They are very big portions, I split mine and got pretty full. A really good deal. Now for the calzone itself, I had the basic pepperoni and cheese which was one of the best I ever had. These outer crust is very good, great quality dough that is cooked right with a little crisp to it but still doughy enough while having a great flavor. These cheese blend was perfect for me, they have the right combo to make it stand out on its own. Kinda cheese that you would eat all by itself. The pepperoni were good and had enough slices in the calzone. They do have other options such as wings, sides, and desert. I had the chocolate chip cookie that was huge on size and delicious as well. I really loved this place, I can’t wait to try more!
