Don Luis Mexican Restaurant

My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday, and were very impressed! This was our first visit, but won’t be our last. We had cheese enchiladas, tamales, chili rellenos, and tacos. All were fresh and tasty, as were the chips and salsa. The staff was very nice, especially Sylvia who waited on us. We look forward to returning soon!

Average food great service salsa needs to be hotter it taste like canned salsa. Chili relleno is not made with a fresh chili which was a little disappointing to me. Rice and beans are good place is clean people are nice

Very tasty. Great service. I also had two wine margaritas:) I like them because the two qualities of great food and customer service are their priorities. These two simple concepts are foreign to some businesses which is a shame. I will go back to this restaurant again.

My hubby and I were delightfully surprised at the food here. He ordered the Beef Taco Dinner and was raving about how great the meat tasted (chunks off a quality pot roast I’m guessing) and loved how crunchy his tacos were. I ordered combo # 3 which came with a Chicken Taco (Delish!), Chile Verde, A Chicken Enchilada, A Chili Rejeno, and some Chili Colorado. It was a ton of food. For me it would be 3 dinners. The rice and beans reminded me of my grandmother’s home cooking. Our server, Carolina, was friendly and attentive. She kept our water glasses full and chips and salsa coming. We were full before our food arrived. We were in a bit of a hurry, so we were happy that the service was on par and the food was awesome.

So I had an amazing visit the first time but the second time around we had delivery and the food arrived a mess and was extremely disappointing coma red to the quality of my first visit. The sauce leaked all over the bag and there was literally a pool of sauce in the bottom. You’d think for an $ 8 delivery charge they would handle your food better. Very disappointing

Great service. Chips were warm, salsa is perfect. Would definitely seek this place out again when I’m in the area. The bonus… The place was very inexpensive.

It’s a greasy spoon. Food is bland and greasy and ambiance is horrible. There is nothing good about this place. Everything I have tried there is awful, have given it a try several times. The service is okay.

Best Mexican place in the county!!! Best salsa ever and they’re taco de azada is amazing the beef it cooked to perfection:) Chucky is the best server I’ve ever experienced

Inconsistent but gotta say… when you are craving Mexican cuisine… Don Luis satisfies. Staff is fabulous!

Hands down the best authentic Mexican food in Amador with great prices and family atmosphere. Consistent food that’s hot and fresh and good service even when they’re slammed-​which is usually the case, another good sign of their reputation. Great menu and pricing fit for even the non-​Mexican food lover, with burgers, chicken strips and fries. They’re family owned and operated which makes me love them even more. They have a couple of sister restaurants in Stockton and Lodi (Angelo’s), of which I’ve enjoyed the same all around experience every time I’m in the area. My favorite dishes are their enchiladas with their killer gravy! Carnitas, shredded beef burritos, and Camarones Rancheros-​spicy and oh so bueno!
If folks are wanting Wi-​Fi and/​or cell service to brag about this place, that’s one thing. my suggestion is to put your phone away and enjoy the meal and your company, the rest of the world can wait a little bit.

Great food, great atmosphere, all around great service. And what I love about it the most is no drama from the staff.

The service is fast and friendly. The food is good, pretty standard Mexican food. I’ve not had a plate that I wouldn’t order again. The salsa is awesome! The taco salad is huge! I’ve never been able to finish it in one sitting.

Came with my family, heard this place was good and figured we try it out. Very friendly staff! The guy was on top of our refills and making sure we had everything. Our server was great. Good food as well. Fairly decent price with lots of food.

Stopped on here at random. Family was hungry and we were driving back to Sac. Always loved Ione as a cute little town and this place fit the bill perfectly. Reasonable prices, nice ambience, nice varied menu with lots of homemade options, and really good service. We came in at 5:30 on a Friday and there a lot of people. That told me right there this place must be good, and we were right.

Pleasantly surprised with this place! The lunch specials are awesome and the service was very good. The flavors were appealing and we were served quickly. The décor is nice and the mural on the wall was nice.

I wanted to like this place. Its very small. There was 4 adults and 4 kids, the waitress didnt speak english very well. Sis ordered flautas and got a tostada. We then watched as the cook yelled at the waitress. She walked away. I also watched as food sat waiting for awhile before being taken out to the table. There was a guy waiter there, who seemed like he knew what he was doing, wish we had him. I ordered steak fajitas and it was all fat. The kids loved their frozen pizzas. I hear the super burrito is good. If i ever go again maybe ill order that.

We were greeted by the waitress and she sat us down. We asked if they had wifi as our cell service was spotty. She had the most confused look on her face, like I just asked her the meaning of life. She came back after checking with someone else who advised her only the hotel next store has wifi.
After snacking on some average corn tortilla chips with some spicy salsa, a friendly gentleman took our order. I had carne asada plate and my hubby had chicken tacos. My hubby liked his tacos, the steak was pretty average.
Prices are very reasonable and we had no problem parking on the street in front of the restaurant.

Live in town and love this place. I am addicted to their beef tacos. Simple and delicious. I only wish they had a full bar to make margaritas.

One of our favorite Mexican restaurants! We eat here at least once a week! Friendly staff and great food.

A friend and I found ourselves in Ione for dinner last night after a wandering drive in the country. True to our nature, we UnilocalED to see where we would eat, and came across this place.
We walked in and it was FULL! It was probably about 6:00p so that made sense. and we told the waiter we would hang out outside until a table was ready. It was maybe 15 – 20 minutes, but we were really in no hurry, enjoying each others company and people watching on the main street in Ione.
We were seated and our drink ordres taken. The waiter came back and took our order, we both knew what we wanted. She had a chicken enchilada with rice and I had the Chili Verde. Both were really good… the tortillas were hot (maybe not homemade) but were good nonetheless.
Deducting a star just for the very simple reason it didn’t seem like they had enough staff. Once the original crowd we encountered finished dinner, it did thin out nicely, and we were really in no hurry, but they were sure working hard for their money.
Service was prompt and attentive, food really good. Atmosphere was ok, nothing spectacular, but we went to eat, not look at the walls. I would absolutely come back here again and would have no problem recommending this to anyone.
