From the traffic light on SR20 and CR315(Interlachen, FLA), go south on CR315 for about 5.5 miles before making a left onto CR310, and«Backwoods Smokehouse» will just be on your left. As you enjoy the drive down the country road, think of Jeannie’s menu of Specialty Sandwiches, Burgers, Wraps, Bar B Que Sandwiches, Soups, Garden Fresh Salads, and even a kids menu(for those 5 years and younger). Soft drinks available, also beer and wine. All meats are smoked with all natural wood ovens. The big seller is the Prime Rib Melt Sandwich(shave Prime Rib smothered in Onions and Cheese) I went with the Corned Beef Reuben with Baked Beans(made with her«secret sauce»). Backwoods offers dine-in, takeout-out, and catering. Jeannie has been at this location for over 10 years. Inside, there is a Florida Cracker Style décor(think of a non-chain«Cracker Barrel») that creates a great warm and friendly family atmosphere. «Gator fans» will enjoy the 13 foot stuff alligator that runs through the middle of the restaurant. Jeannie will tell you the«story» as well as the other«stories» of the stuffed animals, wall hangings, memorabilia, and unique antiques, that she has collected over the years.

Unique setting. Staff congenial and very accommodating. My friend and I informed them that we were planning on spending time reconnecting and would be there for several hours. We were told to relax, enjoy and take our time. We had the Redneck Eggroll which was a real treat as was the prime rib special sandwich. Mac and cheese side was bland and we didn’t care for the shrimp corn chowder. Thought it was a little pricey: $ 44 for 2 of us(which didn’t include alcohol nor dessert). I would give it another try… like I said its unique and an experience.

Had lunch here with a large group after a hike at Rodman. Food and service were superior. Portions large and fairly priced. The proprietor and wait staff has just the right attitude to highlight the Country atmosphere.

We drove 2 hours from Orlando to try this place(well that was our excuse for a road trip) and I was pleasantly surprised. Nice décor, clean, and very good food. I really enjoyed my moist sliced BBQ beef with green beans and macaroni and cheese. Corn bread was sweet and cake like. Bikers, travelers, and locals. Pleasant service. I would definately stop here if I was driving through.

The ribs and chicken were prepared well, but the BBQ sauces left room for improvement. The sweet sauce had a flavor like nutmeg and left me feeling like I was eating a meat dunked in a pumpkin pie. The baked beans had the same flavor. The coleslaw had a great flavor. The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere very inviting. Overall a good experience with decent food. This ‘off the beaten path’ was worth the stop.

Backwoods smokehouse. My wife and I and another couple went to the backwoods smokehouse. We like to try new places. Well here’s are review. The backwoods smokehouse should be called the backwards smokehouse. Reason being our waitress who said she was new took our orders and it was downhill from there on. Our friends ordered steak dinners with sides my wife ordered a steak dinner with one of the sides being a salad. I ordered a hamburger they said you could have a side that comes with that. I said i’d rather not have a side but with the insistence of the waitress I ordered a side of beans. Well the foods were not bad but the shock was when we came to pay the bill. You go up to the counter a woman says what’s the name on the bill, you give them your name she starts to add up all kinds of charges. I was told by the waitress the sides came with the meals and at the register the sides were extra I was charged for many things that should’ve come with the meal. I did not argue with a woman adding up the bill I just paid it. We were very unhappy with the way they ran their establishment we will not go back. Service from the kitchen was extremely slow at best. We had to ask for foods several times before they were delivered. Then we felt very much overcharged for what we ordered. We were also told when we were going to pay the bill at the end of our meals there was a service charge if you used your credit card. Be aware. So as far as this review goes I am definitely giving it to thumbs down for service and for prices charged. The food served finally was all right but the hassle to get it and the craziness about the billing, totally unacceptable.

Oh my gosh, this was the best cornbread and pinto beans I have eaten. Well, it is not better than my Grandma Mables but close. I am going back next vacation and getting food for a couple days lol.

This place gets 5 stars on the Dave’s Cornbread Sundae(vanilla ice cream, maple syrup and cornbread). It was shockingly delicious. The bbq pork meat was high quality and the slaw was good. The drink cups are large enough to swim in. In general, I would stop if driving by based on entrée… but I would drive out of my way for the Sundae. Service is awesome too.

so i was up in the area for BMWNEF Rally ’15, «Backwoods Smokehouse» was a lunch stop during a motorcycle cruise. upon arrival, apparently we were not the only motorcycle group stopping over for lunch. it wasn’t a problem, we seated in a porched in area out back, better view of the bikes. food was great!(fried pickles– thin but crispy-good, slaw, turkey sandwich-good, brunswick stew soup– amazing!, HUGE cup for tea)

We had been to this establishment a few times before but we were not happy when we went Saturday night. The server was good but didn’t even know what Iceberg lettuce was… we didn’t get a bill and when we went to pay, they just added stuff up on the register and gave us a total. One person in our party ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it arrived without cheese or bacon… one ordered a steak salad on iceburg and it arrived on some wilted green lacy stuff. The best thing we ordered was the redneck eggrolls. Those we would say«go ahead and order». Not impressed and won’t be going back again.

This place was great. Perfect local vibe, out of the way. I had an excellent prime rib sandwich and basket of fries. Everyone else was pretty satisfied with what they ordered. Definitely give this place a go if you’re in the neighborhood.

Very unique country store setting. The sides were ok, but the ribs and chicken I had were the best I’ve had in awhile. Can’t wait to go back and try a pulled pork sandwich.

I don’t write reviews. Even though I’ve used Unilocal while traveling for years(mostly because until recently you couldn’t review from your phone). But when I see people like Gary V whining on here(I’m sure without even mentioning his issues to the place or giving them a chance to make it right) well, it makes me angry, and I figured that it’s time I started helping to set the records straight for these small businesses. Stopped here on a recent trip as there’s not a lot to choose from in the area. A very pleasant surprise. Service was excellent, friendly, attentive and fast. The BBQ sandwich was second to none. Sliced pork, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fair prices, good food, funky atmosphere. If you find yourself nearby — eat here. Maybe even write a review of your own. Unless something was wrong — then open your mouth, grow a pair, and give the place a chance to make it right, before whining like a child to the internet. Let’s make Unilocal better.

Not impressed went on a Saturday afternoon about 4:30 a friend told me about this place. Ordered the slab of ribs with two sides to go. When I got home they forgot the cornbread for one thing and when I took a bite of the ribs the bones inside were cold witch meant they were left over from the day before. When I order a $ 30 dollar meal I expect the food to be fresh and hot! There is no telling how long these ribs had been around. I will never go back and absolutely not recommend this this place.

Mostly because of Megan H’s review, but partly because we were in the neighborhood and there are only a few choices for food in the tiny town of Interlachen, we stopped in for a late lunch at 2:00PM on a Tuesday. Since Tuesday is typically a slow day in the restaurant biz It was no surprise that we were the only two people there. We found the interior to be warm and inviting, the décor, er, interesting. Lots of antiques and curiosities are on display to look at while waiting for food. The service was cheerful and prompt. The inside of the place and as much of the kitchen as I could see was very clean. The restrooms were spacious and clean as well. We ordered the rib sandwich, the sliced pork sandwich, and two sweet iced teas. The tea didn’t taste like it was made from a powdered mix, but I was so hungry that I forgot to ask. The sliced pork was delicious; smoky, lean, and tender. The size of the portion was pleasing too. The rib ‘sandwich’, three meaty pork spareribs served on white bread southern style were the very best that I have had in recent memory. Juicy and tender, with little fat and no excess gristle, the meat almost melted from the bone into my hungry mouth. The bread on both was a bit better than your average BBQ joint. Two sauces are offered in plastic squeeze bottles on every table: sweet red, with a hint of apple, and a less sweet mustard sauce. The ribs I had on my first visit were so good they really didn’t NEED any sauce, but it’s there if you want it. I have had to use it on subsequent visits. We’ll probably visit again. Tips: you may want to pass on the collard greens or the peas and rice and stick with the delicious BBQ beans for your side item. if you order takeout, be sure to check the bag before you leave. This isn’t McDonald’s, you know. Update: While recent visits have not been nearly as awe inspiring as our first, BWS still serves up some solid ‘que in an area with very few dining options. Sorry, no more free peanuts.

On a country road with nothing else surrounding it for miles, this restaurant is a BBQ lovers dream. The owner is a really cool lady that is extremely proud of the establishment she built herself and the food she prepares is world class. On this visit, I tried the prime rib sandwich: thin slices of smoked prime rib, smothered in onions and swiss cheese. This came with a side of au jus and horseradish for the sandwich. I think I scarfed this sucker down in record time… wish I’d bought another one for later! After spending an hour here for lunch, I still smelled like smokehouse BBQ later that evening, which apparently is some sort of aphrodisiac for men so you might find yourself being chased down! Get in your car and take a drive through the Ocala National Forest for this place… you won’t regret it!
