I happen to live just a few blocks away from Mama’s Deli. I made my order by phone and as I wait, I’m reading their reviews on Unilocal. The reviews were pretty bad, but I decided to take a chance anyway. I ordered a Soul Fighter Smoothie with a couple substitutuions, a greek salad, fries and an Italian Hero sandwich with a few additional items. The lady on the phone told me they were out of kale and artichokes, both of which I LOVE. But I reserve my judgement and remain optimistic as I wait. Fast forward 90 minutes:(Yes 90 minutes!) The food arrives. I open up the plastic bag to unpackage my food and immediately notice my fries are sweaty and barely warm. They did taste good, for barely warm fries. The salad was colorful and tasty but it wasn’t Greek. No feta cheese, like the menu described. Shredded monterey jack instead. Seemed more like a taco salad. It did come neatly packaged though. Next, my italian hero was somehow made without tomatoes, which left the flavor out of balance. The thick pile of meat, cheese and soggy french bread was too salty without the tomatoes. That ruined the sandwich for me. The Soul Fighter smoothie should be called the«Flavor Fighter» smoothie, due to its grainy, powdery texture and artificial flavor. My taste buds got a black eye from this one. Overall, for 30 bucks, I expected lunch to be at least as good as one from Jersey Mike’s or Chipotle. I was disappointed. All was not lost though. And there is hope. If Mama’s Deli reads their own reviews and takes the customers’ criticisms into account, eating at Mama’s could be a much better experience. But for today’s meal, they get a rather generous 2 stars.

Unilocal really needs to allow us Unilocalers to give zero stars, that way we can alert others that there is truly no hope for some establishments. I wrote a scathing review for«Mama’s Deli and Grill» when it still had the Mad Men Deli sign on the freaking wall. Back when the manager explained to me that there were now Mama’s Deli. If that crap of a sandwich is the best Mama can do, then you’re better off going hungry. How does one manage to screw up a tuna sandwich? I have no idea, but this crap was awful and expensive, with ingredients that were not fresh! I was able to bend the avocado, but unable to bite or chew it! Never in my life had I seen that before. They got my order wrong because I specifically asked for wheat bread, and they gave me cheap white bread that was toasted(which I did not ask for, but it was done to cover up the fact it was stale). The entire can of crunchy olives that must’ve expired in 2001, that they dumped on the sandwich, didn’t help either. This sandwich made Subway look like a Michelin star restaurant! Better restaurants, with edible food, have not survived here so I don’t see this place having much longevity. Hopefully the next place that comes will be better, because I don’t see how it could be worse! In the meantime, if you want a good sandwich, travel a couple of more blocks to Fairfax and Slauson and go to Mike’s Deli.

Most of the food is horrible. Definitely stay away from the Oriental Chicken Salad … it’s water-logged(maybe they poured all the Mandarin oranges juice from the canned mandarins on the salad?). And their BLT. a basic and easy to make sandwich, is PATHETIC. I had to wait 1.75 hours and it only had ONE lousy strip of bacon, the wrong bread(I asked for Whole Wheat and got Pumpernickle), and not even 2 full slices of tomato … and for this I was charged $ 7 !!! Are they for real??? Please, spare yourself the grief and order food elsewhere.

Ordered takeout thru Eat24. Had the Supreme hogie and it was pretty tasty! It comes with a spring mix on one side and their pesto spread on the other. It was also a generous portion of deli meat. I’m going to try their tacos and quesadilla next time. Although I must mention it’s more of a lunch shack than a deli. Also I went around noon time and I would probably not want to venture there after dark.

I have ordered from this restaurant three times already through grubhub and their food is awesome and the large portion sizes are a plus for next day lunch. I have had nothing but super quick delivery through grubhub so I have no complaints. Will continue to order from this restaurant.

Ridiculously bad service. Didn’t deliver until over 3 hours later. I ordered it for lunch at the office and they didn’t deliver until I was gone for the day. To add insult to injury, they try to collect cash for the order even though I paid and cancelled through EAT24. The food’s good, but this is the second time they burned me like this. Never again.

Ordered delivery from this place a few days ago. Order placed at 10:30am. Food delivered 12:35pm. During the 2 hours of waiting, I received 2 phone calls. The chicken in my chicken salad was causing some problems and that was why they were taking so long. Ok… next. A dude calls me and asks if I still want my food! Lol. I already paid for it. I told him it was already paid for. Duh. With no apologies, I get my crappy food. The Asian salad tastes overly sweet. All you taste is sugar. This place is as bad as its former name. Probably worse.
