I’m in the area temporarily for work and I’ve been looking for good Chinese places to try. I ordered from the lunch menu: the kung pao chicken, which was just ok. My favorite dish to get at Chinese restaurants is the chicken and broccoli. Here it was a huge disappointment and waste of money. There was no sauce or seasoning. Extremely bland and without flavor. Such a simple dish and they murdered it. I won’t be back.

We have been looking all over the desert for good Chinese food — who would have«thunk» we would find it in Indio? War Wonton was delicious with broth that had amazing flavor, Mushoo was perfect and enjoyed the BBQ pork egg foo young. Will definitely be back and so happy we found this place

Mulan never disappoints… Been coming here since it has opened… Best Chinese in town! Everything is always made fresh to order and Joann is always so friendly.

What a gem: it is such a rare find to come across authentic, delicious Taiwanese food. This is only the second restaurant I have found in North America that meets my bar for Taiwanese food. I would have gladly eaten here for the rest of my life, if I had to choose a restaurant in North America. I highly recommend the following: 1. Egg flower soup: really great way to tune your palette to the rest of the dishes, it’s light and delectable. 2. Lo Mein: Lo Mein is slightly thicker than vermicelli and mulan does a really great job incorporating all the vegetables and meat together with this dish 3. Assorted vegetables: this is a light dish that is a really great alternative to the more meat-heavy dishes that are seasoned more heavily Almost everything I have tried on the menu is really good. I really love the mom and pops feel to the restaurant. The hostess of the restaurant is extremely friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. I had such a great time chatting to her about our hometowns, Taipei. Be sure to check out this restaurant if you are ever in the valley!

Ordered the all meat rice and every bite tasted the same. Oily and one flavor. I will not be going back so my search continues for the best Cantonese fried rice in the Coachella Valley.

The food was very good, the portions were decent. The owner waited on us, and she was very polite and attentive. The restaurant is a little out of the way and subdued(we went late) so if you are looking for a glam/hip P.F. Chang atmosphere, this is much more«mom & pop.» I plan to return the next time I am in Indio.

This is a little jewel in Indio. We had curry chicken and Kung Pao shrimp for lunch today. Portions are huge and tasty, accompanied with egg drop soup, gigantic egg roll and either steamed rice or barbecued pork fried rice, each complete delicious meal was incredible value. Location is a little dicey and décor is so-so but food is served FRESH, HOT and FAST by friendly, HARDWORKING, diligent female wait staff, all of which combines in a most satisfying experience. Though it’s not Beverly Hills, the place merits a high score. Dining room was very busy for a Sunday during slow summer season. Seems many locals also treasure this gem. We’ll definitely return. Thank you!

Loved their sweet & sour pork dish. They have a great selection and price for their lunch specials. Not a fan of their Monglian beef, tasted too salty for my taste. I will return here to try other dishes.

I am a fan of Chinese food and I’m glad I found Mulan Chinese Restaurant. I have been here a few times now for both take out and dine in and both experiences have been great! We usually order the orange chicken, veggie lo mein and shrimp and broccoli. Their servings and plentiful and always made fresh to order. The owner is very friendly and always answers any question one may have about your choice of entrée. The restaurant décor and chair isn’t the most inviting and could use a little upgrade. The restaurant would have gotten a five star but for some weird reason they are closed on Saturday’s. Either way if your looking for a yummy inexpensive Chinese option for dinner check out Mulan and try their orange chicken. Their chicken is not your typical breaded chicken. They serve actual slices of chicken breast is orange sauce!

So having posted that I couldn’t find any good Chinese food in the desert I got a suggestion from another member to try Mulan in Indio So we went last night place is in a strip mall was sort of busy about ¾ full We sat and I noticed that there was only one server no prob we were not in s hurry. So when she arrived we ordered 2 orders of egg rolls and Szechwan chicken and kung pao. As soon as we ordered the kung pao the server asked if it was ok that there were peanuts in the dish. Which wasn’t a problem that’s what we like So that got me to thinking that’s probably why there are no egg rolls in California that we’ve found(been to 10 or so places), to be like the ones we have in Chicago i guess peanut allergies? I mean I’ve been to probably 25 Chinese places in Chicago and all of them. Incorporate peanut butter with the filling with some pork or chicken along with cabbage onions and carrots and the skins are totally different than the flaky sort of greasy ones here but anyways If your ever in the Chicago area you must try but anyways egg rolls come and there pretty good the best in California for sure. The wrapper is like the rest almost Filo doughish not too greasy filled with veggies the sauces were ok the mustard and the sweet sauce both reminded me of a Thai flavor but anyways Kung pao was great nice gravy and chicken was wok cooked as apprised to deep fried like several other Chinese places in the area The Szechwan chicken was a little on the sweet side also had a Thai flavor to it the chicken was sliced white meat and was a little to tenderized for my taste but hey all in all really good. I also noticed that no one serves pan fried noodle they all Have dried chow mein around here. Good place its s must try

Just staying in town & someone recommended Mulans. Food is not really spectacular. That should be a 3-but the ingredients are mostly fresh(except strangely, canned mushrooms), the service is excellent and food comes out hot out of the kitchen. We got hot tea-which comes ready so you don’t have to wait and crunchy noodles with mustard & some sweet sauce to dip. The sauces were good even though small container & seemed diluted. War wonton was barely ok-not bad but strange taste & chicken seemed tenderized chemically(soft & a bit slimy feeling) but shrimp & pork were good. BBQ Pork Fried Rice was good also as was Shrimp in Lobster Sauce. Chicken chop Suey had super fresh veggies(except mushrooms again) and had good flavor and amount. White rice was ok but clumpy from sitting in container. Weird thing-they are closed on Saturday! Why?

The Emperor of China: The flower that blooms in adversity… is the most rare and beautiful of them all. Mulan The scent. It’s the scent that wells up the desire in me. That and the sight. The sight of those delicious egg noodles sizzling on the hot plate then they pour the sauce, chicken, beef, shrimp, and broccoli on top while you watch. It’s an excellent show which whets my appetite for the delicious combination of flavors from this dish. Back in the day I was able to get pan fried noodles this good at Mandarin Dynasty in San Diego. I use to go there all the time right after a trip to the San Diego Zoo as it was only blocks away. Sadly Mandarin Dynasty closed. Now I have to make a trip to Mulan’s out in the desert(Indio). The service was excellent here. The owners were very friendly. :-) Other dishes I’ve tried: Cup of won ton soup was crammed full of goodness! There were 2 tasty won tons a piece of bbq pork and a few pieces of veggies. The soup base was good too. Bbq pork fried rice. The mix of onions, egg, bbq pork combined into a delicious mixture. This dish is very similar to the bbq pork fried rice at Shanghai Café which I like alot. I should mention that the fried rice on the dinner menu which I ordered this time is very good while the fried rice you get as part of the lunch special is not that good as they don’t put in the onions, egg, and generous amounts of bbq pork which is what gives the rice the awesome flavors. Lo mein mixed meat lunch special. The egg drop soup was ok. I’m not a big fan of this kind of soup. It was hot and had good flavor. The fried noodles that came with were pretty good. The egg roll was pretty good. Crunchy wrapper and the insides were good. This is pretty much the standard egg roll for lunch specials. The fried won ton was pretty much a fried won ton wrapper which was crunchy and had good flavor. The fried rice with bbq pork was average. Rice tasted ok but there wasn’t much pork. The mixed meat lo mein was average. I liked the beef and shrimp. Noodles and veggies were good. Lunch special was $ 6.50 which is reasonably priced.

Good Chinese food. It took me awhile to try it out but I’m glad I finally did. I’ve been here a few times now and everything has been great. The service is great and they have good lunch specials for about $ 6 that includes your entrée, rice, egg roll, a little fried thing and tea, there might be something else included but I don’t remember. Sure beats eating Jack N The Box or Carls. Cheaper too. It’s not in the nicest shopping center but don’t let that deter you. In N Out is on the same lot and they’re outstanding.

Typically quick but can get rather busy and slow. Costs a tad bit more for some items compared to other Chinese restaurants but it is worth it. I’ve had times were my food has been cooked bad but most of the time it comes out great. Orange peel shrimp is my favorite. The waitress is attentive and always doing something.

Indio is not really known for great Chinese Food — but Mulan steers clear away from the stereotypical, tight budget-operated Chinese Restaurant, where it’s hotter than Hong Kong inside, the portions are stingy and the service is downright pathetic. Here, you’re greeted by two nice, smiling Asian ladies. The food is hot, fresh, the grease and salt is restrained, portions and flavor are really a good value and most of all… you’re not eating your lunch inside a Bikram Yoga studio. How many«cheapskate» Chinese Restaurants have you been to, where the only things keeping you comfortable, are dozens of inexpensive floor fans? Not here! Mulan is made by real Asians, unlike Panda Express. Immediately, you’ll notice your piping-hot meal came straight from a Wok… and not some steam table. If you are really hungry — I suggest you opt for the Family Dinners, which is a ton of food, for the price. It’s not much to look at inside(minimalist) — but man, there is a lot of taste… in the food alone.

In short: awesome food and better service! The waitress was so nice and made sure we had everything we needed. My brother is a vegetarian and she went through everything he ordered to make sure all the ingredients were okay for him to eat. She was really sweet. The food was awesome. Had a total of five different dishes, all were great. The curry chicken was especially delicious. Definitely recommended!!!
