It was not what we were expecting. After reading reviews and talking with a few people around town we decided to give Funaro’s a try. We ordered to go for a late lunch. I had the tuna melt and it was mediocre at best. It was tuna salad on marble rye with Swiss. I also tried the potato salad, and couldn’t eat more than a bite. I was racking my brain trying to figure out what I could do to make it edible… I gave up, realizing I couldn’t cook the potatoes until they were done. I hate when the potatoes are under done and have that raw taste. My daughter had the BLT and it was a BLT nothing more, nothing less, she said it was okay. She tried the pasta salad, which was tortellini with a pesto flavor, and something hard within them, tasted like they were underdone. One taste was enough for both of us. We also got a couple of cookies too. A chocolate cookie, covered with confectioners sugar– underdone, two heart shaped, decorated sugar cookies-underdone, and what I believe to be a snicker doodle –underdone. Won’t be returning here.

Average chicken salad sandwich. Ruben sandwich was good. 18 Bucks for two sandwiches is a little too pricy for me, especially when the sandwiches are only average. Lunch should be like 5 or 6 bucks each.

Just off the square in Indianola, Funaro’s is worth a small detour for a tasty treat. I stopped in for just that last Saturday. The young woman behind the counter explained their selection of cookies and completely sold me on purchasing a half dozen for $ 5; cookies sold individually are $ 1 a piece. I tried their Snickers peanut butter cookie(a local favorite, she said), and chocolate/brownie, snickerdoodle, and chocolate glazed cookies. They were all fresh and phenomenal! The Snickers was my favorite: moist and soft peanut-buttery delicious. Their sandwiches are in the $ 7 range, a bit hefty; but I can’t rate without trying. Friends say they are good and made with quality ingredients. The place is no frills, cozy, and oh-so local. Give Funaro’s a try!

Don’t waste your time with Subway or Jimmy Johns. Funaro’s deli sandwiches are great. I’ve never been disappointed. Meatball sub is a must try and the turkey sub is my Spring/Summer choice.

This is a pleasant deli and bakery. There isn’t a lot of variety, but they’re good at what they do. You probably won’t have your socks knocked off here, but you won’t ever be disappointed either. The service is very friendly!
