Seriously people. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to! Especially for so called Mexican! This is a DON’T!!!

Overall I enjoyed this place. The food is good, there’s many choices also. I find the menu hilarious with the celeb photos. You can’t go wrong with the Cubana — I loved it. Pros: service, food, music, price Cons: awkward entrance, interior has more potential than current Will return!

This place can often be overlooked since there are so many places near by but you would be wise to stop in. The pickled veggies is a nice treat to start with and the different types of salsa are all good. Some of the sandwich choices are a bit weird but the two I’ve tried are great. I will definitely be back for the tacos!

Got three tortas-the pitbull, puchata, and Cubana and three tacos(fish, chicken, and pork). Tortas were just ok-I was expecting them to be piled way to high but they were lackluster and I was able to put all my toppings on half a piece of bread to be satisfied. Only truces the fish taco but it was a standout. Would definitely go back just for the tacos. Our service was a little eh. No refills on a slow time of day. We were greeted by a super friendly guy though so the experience was worth the trip.

First impression= very good. Small, but quaint inside. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I had a tortas which was a first. But very tasty flavors. I will definitely be back for taco Wednesday.

The food was very good. Menu setup is very odd, and most of their tortas are named after celebrities, and I’m not sure what the correlation of the toppings and each celebrity are. I got the Cubano. It was delicious, but I definitely don’t see the connection with turkey, ham, hot dog, egg, 2 kinds of cheese, and so on to being«Cubano» since Cuban dishes are generally only slight variations of pork, black beans, rice, and plantains. But I do recommend that one. We also got the Megan Fox torta, which was chicken, chorizo, and queso. It was good but the chorizo was a bit dry. The reason I’m rating it only 3 stars(I’d say the food was a 4) is because the service was terrible. The person that took care of us was very sweet and very kind. However, she was not supposed to be our server. Our actual server greeted us 10 whole minutes after we got there(we were the ONLY people in the restaurant at the time), and took our drink orders. I ordered water for my boyfriend since he was in the bathroom at the time and got us both waters. Five minutes later he came back to check and make sure we wanted two waters and not just one. So finally we got our water. He did not come back to our table even once after that. So then the girl at the register(who was apparently also training said waiter who was MIA) had to take care of us. She also was trying to show new guy how to work the register. In the chaos, I guess she selected the wrong option for a couple that took their tortas to go. She tried to fix it in the system to show the correct sandwiches, and refunded the money back on their card, and the system would not let her recharge it since the couple was no longer there. She told the manger(who I assume is actually the owner), saying repeatedly«I’m so sorry. I’ve never messed that up before. I know you want the correct sandwich selected so when I tried to fix it, it wouldn’t let me charge it again…» While she was continuing on with her apology, the manager just stared at her and didn’t say a word. The poor girl eventually offered to pay, and the manager still didn’t say anything. I guess the manager doesn’t realize that people make mistakes? When our food was ready, and the cook dinged the bell, the girl called out to our«server» to get the food, meanwhile a third table had come in, which she was going to greet. Instead of getting our food, he followed her awkwardly to the table she was greeting and literally just stood there. Staring. After she greeted them, he went back to wherever he was hiding out the whole time, and she gave us our food. The cook & the manager were in the back making the food, and accidentally made one of the sandwiches on an order twice, easily 10 minutes after they made it the first time. I’m not sure how, since it was a couple who ordered two sandwiches and not one. The owner blamed it on that same poor girl, saying that she didn’t take the order sheet from them after they made the sandwich, so they thought it was another order. She said that they never gave her back the sheet, so she didn’t think anything of it. The grumpy manager then told her to sell the sandwich.(We were sitting very close to the kitchen so we heard all of this.) Who is she going to sell that to?! The three tables there had already ordered, and she shouldn’t have to be blamed for a mistake that the manager or cook made! I was very frustrated with the manager in particular for treating her staff that way. They seemed to have absolutely terrible communication between staff. I left a pretty good tip, in hopes that the girl got it and the lazy«server» we had wouldn’t get any of it. And if that girl who served us is reading this, I really hope 1) you don’t have to deal with that crap on a daily and 2) I hope you find a better job that actually appreciates your very hard work. Due to the awful service, I am hesitant to return.

Their Katy Perry sandwich was to die for. Their portions were big enough and the quality of their meats was pretty good. The service was great and the servers were very friendly. When we ordered more chips, that brought them with a smile on their face. I loved it how the total for a three person meal was under 20 bucks. I’m definitely going back to try the rest of the menu which has celebrity names items which kept a smile on our faces throughout. We kept on joking about how hot katie perry was :-) It’s a hidden gem that you could almost miss driving by. Street parking only and there’s some parking on the side of the building.

AMAZING! Definitely try the Cubana! Cheap & very filling. Menu is awesome(w/the celeb names). I wish more people knew about this place because it is a gem. I recommend this place to people whenever I get the chance. I absolutely adore this restaurant.

Tasty, tasty, and did I mention tasty? Fantastic tortas/sandwich. I had the Luis Miguel and it was very hearty. The bread is soft and fluffy and the ingredients are fresh. Each torta comes with a side of hot pickled veggies, not for everyone. Tortas run from $ 6-$ 12.

Went on Wednesday when they have tacos for $ 1.50. Super yummy! I love their soft, corn tortillas and I want to come back to eat their famous sandwiches that I’ve always heard about!

Haven’t been here in a while, but happy to see they’ve expanded the menu. Breakfast from 10 – 12, dinner plates w beans and rice, and Taco Wednesdays for $ 1.50! Smoked pork taco meat is sliced like deli meat and a little salty, but my bacon-loving toddler loved it

The food was middle of the road, but I think people tend to get little too excited about the recent growth in «authentic tacos». The carrots and jalapenos look nice, but I would argue they are more of a garnish that an actually appetizer, or side dish. They don’t look overly appetizing up close, but if you can find some good pieces, it’s pretty good. I got 4 different tacos when I went for Wednesday $ 1.50 taco day. Chorizo — Very good, and not complaints. Chicken — Same. Chicharrones — I was under the impression that this would be deep fried and crispy, almost like pork rinds. Rather they were soft chewy pieces of mostly fat that I found completely unappetizing. Pork — The flavor of the pork tacos was good, but they were severely undercooked. Multiple large chewy pieces that were impossible to chew. I was excited to come here, as I too am a fan of «authentic tacos», but was definitely let down. The quality was middle of the road, and the service was middle of the road, only two people working the room during lunch was not enough. All in all I had a mediocre time, but would be open to going back again. .

Another great addition to the up and coming Fletcher Place eateries on Virginia Ave. It felt very warm and homey inside-just like a neighborhood restaurant should be. Our waitress was friendly and attentive-we had perfect weather to sit outside and enjoy outdoor dining on the sidewalk. Bees were a bit of problem which is expected this time of year. There were five of us in the group-two ordered the taco salad which comes in a fried taco bowl-perfect size, just the right amount of each of the ingredients-one was topped with ground chorizo and the other was chicken. The other three add the tortas-good size portion-one could split one with a side-but not too large to eat alone. We will definitely come back!

You’re given spicy pickled carrots/jalapenos, chips and salsa, and little slices of seasoned cucumber as complimentary appetizers. The carrots and jalapenos are really good(if you can handle spicy) and whatever they put on the cucumbers makes them really tasty as well. There’s a pretty large selection of tortas and I haven’t had a bad one. There were some that I would consider kind of plain, but there definitely wasn’t anything inedible. I’ve tried the tacos and chips & guac as well which were both good, but nothing I’d consider amazing. All in all, this is a good lunch spot especially if you’re looking for something inexpensive and want Mexican! It can get crowded because it’s not too big so try to get there early!

Let me just say that I’ve passed this place several times in the Fletcher/Fountain Square area, and it seemed like I would never get to visit here because something always mysteriously happens and they close(at 8 pm) on weekdays sooner than I could say ¡Quiero comer veinticuatro tortas en un remolque, por favor! Nevertheless I finally made it on Wednesday night. The sign on the front of their window ways they have been serving tortas since 1960, and based on the crowd that they had near closing time, I would say both are good signs. I wanted to sit outside so I went inside and found a server and notified them of my arrival. I was quickly brought a menu, and it was an 8 pager so I flipped through right to the tortas. They have 36 different combination(mostly named after Latin-american celebrities) and it was a hard decision with all the different choices. The one that of course stood out in my mind was the Cubano(#23), — ham, turkey, american cheese, queso fresco, pineapple, egg, chorizo breaded steak, mozzarella, smoked pork, and get this – hot dog! I was cursing myself for the large snack that I had prior to my visit, and settled on the #22 – Mexico. Let me point out that the outside location is great – right on the Virginia street section of Culture Trail, so awesome people watching. My food quickly arrived and the bread was very soft and flavorful. The Mexico contained steak, chorizo, bell peppers, onions, mozzarella, and cilantro. The meatiness and spice for the chorizo and steak combo was a creat counter to the freshness of the mozzarella/cilantro. The sandwich was genuinely delicious! On the side were served two slices of spiced cucumber that were a nice finish. You get all this for just $ 7! I was very full and can’t wait to come back and sample the pièce de résistance-the Cubano. I can only imagine this was designed for a large army-or me! Overall: Food 5+ Service 4 Outdoor seating 5 Solid 5 overall. I shall return with a bigger appetite:)

I have only been here once based on Unilocal reviews… Its a very charming place that serves serious tortas. I looked at picture after picture of these great tortas and then when I sat down and ordered i got lettuce fish tacos. I don’t know what i was thinking. I was not impressed but in their defense thats not what all the fuss is about so i won’t let it affect my review. Fish tacos were not at all special. The reason i am giving this 4 stars is because their Tortas(which is what my friend ordered) was amazing.(I stole some of her lunch with no shame) Very true to what a torta should be only slightly more elaborate. Going back very soon to experience the whole thing next time.

All I can say is that I was amazed by this place! So many different choices of tortas. So tasty! The bread was soft with a nice little toast on top. I can’t stop raving about it to my friends. I forgot the name of my celebrity torta, but it had porkchop, ham, pineapple, avocado and cheese. I’m definitely coming back to try the others!

This unassuming little restaurant in Fountain Square has a TMZ-worthy secret: celebrities! Ricky Martin, Katy Perry, Pamela Anderson, all can be found here… on the menu. That’s right, every torta here is named after a different famous person. I tried the Barbara Mori(of Rubí fame), a sandwich with chicken, mozzarella, and shredded pork. Vegetarian options are available if meat’s not your thing. At 6 bucks, it was a good-sized sandwich, and since I also split chips and guac with a friend, I left with a full tummy. Two salsas accompanied the meal, green(mild) and red. The red salsa is SUPER hot, even for a hot sauce lover like me: we’re talking Thai chili sauce-level here. A couple of reasons for the three stars: –guac was reeeeallllllyy veggie-heavy, so it was more crunchy than creamy. I’m inclined to think this is just the way they like it, but it also seems like they’re skimping on the avocado. –multiple advertisements and posters for beer in this place, but they don’t sell alcohol. Wha. False representation, I say.
