This place was crazy! It was HUGE and the perfect place to kick-off Super Bowl Sunday. The was a huge food truck parked along side the tent serving delicious brunch food. Biscuits & gravy, bread pudding french toast, and breakfast tacos. We sampled it all and good god man! That was some amazing food. They were serving up beer, blood mary’s and mimosas. I had a mimosa(bouble the bubble without needing to ask) and it was delish. I also had the Javamac beer. Wow! That made me into a stout fan with one sip. They had some really cool tables rectangular tables set up horizontally and vertically that were light boxes, lit up orange. Super cool. I wouldn’t have wanted to spend my Sunday anywhere else!

Writing this review after this place is closed up is getting me all choked up. *Shaking fist* but, why, why must you leave us you mighty indoor party tent in the winter with glorious food & beer & lighting? But whyyyyyyyyy?(Imagine that shot in Shawshank Redemption where Dufraine has his hands out in the pouring rain & the camera is pulling up & away from him… that’s me.) This tent was popped up… err… this wasn’t just a tent… it was a heated house with a floor… for the Super Bowl week. Just because it’s gone doesn’t mean that it’s not a valuable review as what was offered in the tent is still offered — just in different venues. My first night at the tent was the night after Winterfest(enormous Indiana beer fest) where I drank genius rare Sun King mole spiced wee mac or muckle) and they were kind and wise to welcome us to this tent for more beer & smiles & perfect lighting. Those light boxes… you see… I’m massively affected by lighting — somuchso I have to leave places with flickering fluorescence or harsh lighting(I’m not one of those folks that have to wear tinted glasses… but I’m close). And the lighting in the tent was orange & low. Tremendous find. I worked through Super Bowl week & only had Sunday marked off as the only day to get away, and there was no way I was going to miss kegs & eggs breakfast at this tent. The Big Green Bistro(Chef JJ but mobile) served up bread pudding french toast, biscuits & gravy & an egg pork? or beef? taco. This food is so crazy good. I rarely crave breakfast outside of my house but I would wake up early & track this truck down for this. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to start Super Bowl Sunday. The Gold Medal winning Java Mac(Bjava coffee infused Wee Mac) was on tap & my two favorite things to either drink or eat: beer & coffee here in one cup. There was also something happening here that has to be noted. Diplomacy. Sun King’s diplomacy of working with other breweries has always impressed me. There was Three Floyd’s Lawless ESB on tap here — and it wasn’t on tap anywhere else(in the world?). To me, that’s a remarkable trait that you can’t find at many breweries — or businesses for that matter. I’m going to miss this place. I’m hoping one day something like it becomes a permanent thing but it’s such a huge undertaking it makes sense. It’s sort of all the great things that Sun King & Big Green Bistro & Indianapolis have, consolidated all into one place. For now… back to Sun King tapping events & finding BGB around town.

I came late to the party on this one, literally, since I only checked out the tent on it’s final day — the day of the Superbowl. To be fair, I had just gotten into town the day before. And to be even more fair, I didn’t really know what a Sun King was. But I sure do now! This was an amazing space to get away from the crowds and the craziness. A spot for locals and people who want to feel like locals. I came for their kegs n’ eggs celebration and it was a good time. There were comfortable seats, there were ATMs for money, their was a crazy selection of beer(including an amazing coffee beer — quite possibly the best coffee beer I’ve ever had) and mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. And the food! We got breakfast boxes from The Big Green Egg — amazing biscuits and gravy, breakfast tacos and bites of French Toast. Maybe a little overpriced at $ 12 a box, but it’s Superbowl weekend, I won’t hold it against them. Seriously, this was a great way to spend my Super Bowl Sunday. Thanks Sun King for setting it up!

Wow is this a cool space! I don’t know what I was expecting, but this was way beyond what I would have imagined. We went last Thursday and I noted all of these awesome things: — A cool DJ — A lounge area with couches and lit up tables that was a neat mix of casual and swanky — The Unilocal booth where I got a ticket for free beer! — Several other booths staffed by nice people giving out good info and some swag — Gray Bull wine table where you can get info on the wines being served by the glass up at the bar, and also sample them. These guys know their stuff and can tell you where in Indy you can find particular types of wine(like the elusive dry Riesling)! — The bar staffed by everyone’s favorite Sun King employees, serving up Sun King beer and the aforementioned wine — One wall of the tent is taken up by Chef JJ’s Big Green Bistro. We had a veggie burger slider and polenta frites, which were excellent We had a lot of fun visiting the tent, and I hope we get a chance to go back before it’s gone!

Cool heated space just behind Sun King, by the railroad tracks. I went here to hear Whiskey Bent River Boys(Pee Wee Valley, KY) and Woodstove Flapjacks(Lafayette, IN) play and ended up drinking beer and noshing on good food for about 5 hours. It’s a tent, but it’s comfortably heated. Chairs, tables, a dance floor type space, couches. I will likely go back for another event some time this week. People of all ages(well, 21 up to grandparents) came out for this show and mingled. Food is sold by Chef JJ’s truck: sliders, pork tacos, veggie stuff, fried polenta, cookies. Beer is by Sun King. The only issue is the bathrooms are outdoor portable toilets… they’re FREEZING cold and most of them are not lit… which makes for a disgusting mess, when dudes have been peeing in a hurry in the dark. Make sure you have a flashlight app on your phones before venturing out there!
