Probably the best Indian food i have eaten… I was there in June, 2014 for Lunch buffet. The owner himself was the cook and there 1 waitress for his support. Owner cooked from his heart the food was so delicious. Place is very simple…

Friendly staff, but the food needs improvement. I hope they can renovate the resturant, and add more life to it.

Disappointing based on Unilocal feedback. Yes, décor is lacking. Yes, it looks like a dump from the outside. We had the lunch buffet. Goat meat and tandoori chicken were very good. Rice too(surprising how many places screw that up). Garlic naan came out fresh for our table which I really liked rather than it being on the buffet. The dishes with sauces, though, were pretty bland. They were watery rather than creamy. And the raita tasted like Dannon yogurt. So, a mixed bag. On the plus, nice waitress, very helpful. Clean. And no food side effects, which was appreciated by my friend with the weak stomach.

I love me some Indian food. It’s always a special treat when I can sneak away from work and satisfy my curry cravings at Tandoori King. Oh so yummy. The place is nothing fancy — plain(yet colourful) walls, older wooden booths, white table cloths… you get the picture. But it’s clean and I’m here for the food, not a fancy atmosphere. And the food is where they shine. I’m no expert on Indian food, but I know their dishes taste good(plus I’ve seen Indian /Pakistani people eating here before, so it must be at least somewhat legit, right?). Everything I’ve had has a nice, full flavor with a balanced mix of spices. The tandoori chicken is juicy and delicious. Plus there are plenty of vegetarian choices in addition to the numerous chicken, goat, lamb, and seafood dishes. And their naan is incredible! I have no idea how authentically Indian this food is, but I don’t really care. It’s delicious and I like it. I definitely recommend stopping in if you’re on the west side suffering from a curry craving.

Tandoori King has a NEW(second) location at 79th& Michigan Rd. My wife and I stopped in early(6pm) one evening. The place was empty except for what appeared to be the service staff. We were not greeted. at the door, and had to. ask«Sit anywhere?». We chose a booth, a leftover from the previous owner, Bannuras. the springs had collapsed in the seats and we both ended up with our chins almost hitting the table! We moved to a standard table. The table was poorly set, a 2-top with only one setting. We had to ask. for a second setting, and that proved to have only a knife wrapped in a napkin. Our server seemed to have some trouble understanding English, and asked us many times to repeat what we ordered. The high point was that the server did ask us concerning the spice level — something my «delicate» wife appreciated. The low point was that the server never asked if we wanted soft drinks or tea, and produced only one worn plastic caraf of water.(The caraf was never refilled during our visit.) the Paneer Pakora was greasy and flavorless. The tamarind sauce lacked sweetness, and the mint chutney lacked mint! Not a memorable start. My wife found her Chicken Tikki Masala to be hearty and full flavored. I found my Saga Paneer to be a little spicier than anticipated, but still very good. Garlic Naan was simply excellent!(The Saga Paneer tasted better for lunch the next day, after the spices had a chance to meld in my fridge.) During our meal, a different server brought us a Sprite, which neither is us drink and neither of us ordered. We asked that it be removed from the bill, which was easily accommodated with a cheery«No problem» All in all, while the food was above normal, the service was seriously lacking, detracting from. the overall experience of the meal. I look forward to the Lunch Buffet, but with lowered expectations. Giving this visit three stars due to poor service.

Almost drove another 20 minutes due to reviews. Ah, Unilocal.Anyway, we were craving Indian food and this was top of the line for what it is. Note that we are both vegetarian and thus are not commenting on the meaty end of the lunch buffet. But the tastes were fine and fun and calmed our craving. Good vegetarian selection – at least 5 or 6 options plus samosas and aloo tikki. More options than expected. The blinds were drawn and the insides were fine. Clean. Not fancy. If you are expecting fancy Indian and fancy décor, wrong place. If you want a great lunch buffet within that definition, we felt it was exactly that. The garlic naan was about the best I have had. Yes, go garlic! Good rates, good place. So glad I did not buy in to some of the other reviews, nor feel pressure to rate this one vs high-end and costly establishments. It is what it purports to be, and we greatly enjoyed it.

We got take out and our food was pretty good. Owner(I assume) was a bit rude in the background of my phone call. A new Indian restaurant has opened nearby and, unless it sucks, I think that we will likely not find ourselves back at Tandoori King. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it. Especially because we have so few Indian places in Indy. If you find one that’s decent, I say hit them up!

I want to start off by saying that I, in no way, classify myself as a connoisseur of Indian cuisine; I’ve only been introduced to this amazingly delicious array of food in the past couple years. I know I could certainly broaden my horizons. Like a few others, I live and work extremely close to the establishment. It’s only by happenstance that I went in one day for the lunch buffet. Here’s what I CAN say about Tandoori King: First of all, I can’t find anything about this place classifying itself as «fine dining,» and so I feel that some of the previous comments regarding décor here are a bit harsh. It’s maybe a bit more«open» and«bland» than it could be, but it certainly is by no means offputting. It’s simple, it works, but it’s not a place I’d consider taking someone for a romantic date. Secondly, the hostess has never been anything but completely friendly and attentive every time I’ve visited. She has always been happy to refill drinks and naan as soon as she sees quantities diminishing. Regarding the food… For not having tried every Indian Buffet in the US, or even Indy, I can definitely say that of what I HAVE tried, Tandoori King certainly seems to have had the best flavor profile. I have noticed that wheras most buffet-style food at simliar restaurants seems to just blend together and taste the same, each dish offered at Tandoori King stands by itself. It was also pretty important(if not totally silly) to me that they actually understand the difference between butter chicken and traditional Chicken Tikka Masala, unlike every other buffet I’ve visited here. The only regret I have now is how dangerous it is living within walking distance.

I ordered for Sahi Paneer and guess what it it had only 2 – 3 pieces of Paneer and rest all was Tofu. I told this to waitress and I have been told that the Paneer has soaked color. Common, I am Indian and knows very well what is Paneer. The food tasted just okay. Although it was Indian spicy which should be very hot. but it was not. would not go there again.

I’ve worked near T-King for ~2 years and have never gone there despite the numerous x34934734 times I’ve driven past. I never knew how awesome it was until I discovered that a fair # of my coworkers LOVE Indian food and international food in general. So what better way to bond than over good food! Lunch buffet is ~8 which included fresh bread(naan?) either plain or garlic… when in doubt, go with garlic! Now I can’t telly you exactly what I ate other than the following descriptions: –green stuff that reminded me of Yats! Spinach and Mushroom etoufee –carrot dessert –goat curry –butter chicken –chicken with a sauce –basmati(sp?) rice [it was orange/red/white] It helps to go with people who’ve been there before or just ask the owners to explain their dishes — they’re more than willing to help! I can’t wait to go back.

The décor here is wretched… just awful. There are big posters(as tall as I am) tacked onto the wall with packing tape advertising that they serve Barefoot wines and… Budweiser? They actually have cheap beer/wine specials a couple nights a week. I guess if you want to get drunk while eating Indian food this is your spot! We stopped here on our way from Greenwood to Avon. It’s on Rockville Rd outside of 465. While I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, the selection on the buffet was pretty impressive. The goat curry was REALLY good… very tender goat(maybe it was lamb?) and it was mostly meat, not mostly bones like most places serve. The paneer tikka masala tasted much more like spicy tomato soup than it usually does, but it wasn’t bad. I liked the saag paneer just fine. Dal was a little undercooked… lentils too firm. The chicken dishes were a touch above average… I can’t put my finger on why, but I suspect it’s because they used thighs and breasts, not just boneless-skinless breasts. The kheer was very plain… just sweet cream with rice, no seasonings. They do ask what kind of naan you want(garlic or plain) BUT if it’s someone’s first time, the hostess lady(kind of redneck seeming) doesn’t bother explaining that naan is flat bread, she will just repeat the question 2 – 3 times until you answer. A carafe of water is brought out to your table so you don’t have to wait on refills. The soda is only in cans. I like this because it discourages people from sucking down 600 calories worth of pop with their meal. The hostess/waitress didn’t seem all that knowledgeable about the food, but she seemed friendly and made sure to check back on all the tables several times and clear away the dishes. An Indian lady(maybe owner?) came out from the kitchen and was lurking around the bar/register area, but she didn’t interact with any customers or smile at all. I like owners who interact with their customers, who are welcoming and proud of the food they’re serving. If Tandoori King gets it together with the décor and customer relations, I might bump the rating up.

Cheap cafeteria atmosphere with a tatted up pill of a waitress who is not nice to coupon users. Stingy on the naan also, she looked at us like we were idiots asking for 1 more naan. We had only one to bring with for 2 people. Plus, this food is too watered down and nut authentic Indian. It’s American-ized Indian food and I prefer a better palate of fresh spices. Needless to say, we will nut be going back again. I will stick to INDIASIZZLING on Allisonville Rd instead. Further drive for me, but much more satisfying with better décor & ambiance!

Visited for an early dinner on a Friday night. When we arrived we were the only customers, but by the time we left there were a half dozen other tables and several carry out customers. Our waitress was very attentive and enthusiastic. She recommended the Samosa Chat appetizer which was amazing. I had the Lamb Saag(lamb cubes in a creamed spinach) and the lamb was perfectly cooked and juicy. My wife had the the Shrimp Vindaloo which she had never tried before and enjoyed it, but said she would order the Shrimp Masala next time. The garlic naan was hot and garlicky. We also ordered Vegetable Biryani(rice) which was very good. All in all. It was one of the best Indian meals I’ve had in Indianapolis. We are looking forward to going back, perhaps for lunch to try the buffet.

At first glance, Tandoori King isn’t much to look at. The exterior is seedy and the neighborhood bordering on shabby. The interior is very open and spacious — it feels somewhat cold and a little more like a convention hall than a restaurant, but our waitress mentioned that they were working on improving this, so I’m sure I will continue to see improvement in the coming months. Despite the deceptive appearances, this Indo-Paki gem is packed to the gills with delicious food and even a few unique menu choices that you may not find at other restaurants. You have your choice of chicken, seafood, lamb, and even goat dishes that I fully intend on trying upon future visits. They also have a respectable selection of vegetarian dishes that are sure to please. The website does not lie when it says that everything is prepared fresh. Our vegetable pakora came out hot, crunchy, and delicious and the paneer pakora was the stuff of dreams. Each came with two sauces — one more akin to a sweet and sour and the other a thick, spicy, green dip. The saag paneer is a good choice for total noobs to Indian food — it is Indian cheese in a spinach sauce. I tried the medium spiciness and it is a slow, even burn that doesn’t hit you until the end of the bite — not too bad — but the real show-stopper of the meal was the lamb saag. Can I just pause for a moment and rave with abandon? The lamb saag was out of this freaking world! The lamb chunks were tender, flavorful, and not at all tough or gristly. The mild spinach sauce had just the right amount of heat for a total wimp like me, and with a bit of their crazy orange-yellow rice on the side, made for a very satisfying meal. I almost feel unworthy of such deliciousness, but I’m totally not sorry and even the cute bleating of innocent young lambs will not stop me from devouring them and their cousins in this awesome dish. I also tried the mild punjabi kadhi pakora, a bright yellow, vegetarian curry dish. While I found it tasty, it was just a little too spicy for me(again: total spice wimp right here) to handle more than a few bites. Whatever you do, DONOTLEAVETHISRESTAURANTUNTILYOU’VEEATENTHENAAN. If you don’t do this, you will have failed humanity as a whole. The naan is baked fresh when you order it and is so very worth the money. It’s great for mopping up the leftover sauce from your dishes, but also helps temper some of the heat of the spicy food. All-in-all, my experience here was overwhelmingly positive. The prices are fantastic, the food quality is phenomenal, and though they have some room to improve in terms of environment, it’s easy to forgive when you’ve got a mouthful. I highly recommend venturing out of the city to discover this awesome little joint.

Tandoori King is all about making its’ presence known on the west side. I’ve been to many Indian restaurants around Indy and Amber Rose is still a big hit for me. None the less, the West side now adorns a jewel in the rough with Tandoori King. For new comers to Indian food, you must try the lunch buffet. It demonstrates many of the traditional favorites so you can sample from about 10 – 15 different dishes. The atmosphere is simple and needs a little attention to elevate the experience, but if you want some Indian food that nestles the culture, it should be worth your lunch time visit. M-F, they offer their buffet for you to get your taste buds curious for more. I’ve not tried the dinner entrees yet, but if the items on the buffet are as good as they are, the dinners are bound to please as well. Recommended.

Let me clear one thing up from the start — knocking off one star from the max has *nothing* to do with the food or service. Let’s get that clear. Also a disclaimer: I’ve only had the lunch buffet so far. This will be remedied SOON. Only two down sides to this restaurant. One, the bare and un-curtained glass front, which lets in way too much glaring, hot sunlight and leaves diners looking at the backs of signs and decals. And two, the televisions. This food is too wonderful to be cheapened by a game show blaring in the background when you’re trying to eat. My server was helpful and friendly and attentive and the food was nothing short of *perfect.* Tandoori King doesn’t dumb down the spices as some buffets do. Even at the tail end of lunch hour, every dish was fresh, well kept, painstakingly prepared and a joy to eat. Vegetarian offerings have their own steam table. The buffet comes with plain or garlic naan prepared to order and even that was absolutely perfect. The spices in the dishes were unusually fresh and aromatic, particularly for buffet fare. Although $ 9(total) is more than I usually pay for a lunch, trust me, it was a steal because this is gourmet Indian food, about half again as many offerings as you usually see on an Indian buffet, and the quality was just so incredible. Grab a couple friends and hurry over to this wonderful and under-recognized place. And beg them to turn off the darned TVs.

New place that has only been open a couple of weeks. Food was really good. I had the Chicken Curry mild, garlic naan, and rice pudding. The Curry was spot on for mild. I will get it hotter next time but did not want to kill myself. I was talking to the owner while I was there and he told me they have a buffet every day(weekends too) for $ 8.99 and seems like it would be great. I will go back for the buffet probably next week because I was so impressed with the curry. I would say Tandoori King is in top 3 Indian restaurants I have ate at in Indianapolis. As far as price I would say they are almost exactly the same as all others. Curry and Garlic Naan was 15.25, could easily be split between two if an appetizer was ordered. As for atmosphere, it really does not have one yet. Hopefully after a couple more weeks they will get it together in that area, but to be honest, I go to bars for atmosphere not Indian restaurants.
