Suding Hardware Store

This is an old school hardware store. I came in, in a pinch, needing – yes! actual hardware! Not appliances, lighting fixtures, or a riding mower. I needed: a special bolt, cut to a specific size, and I needed it: now.
They had it. They cut it to the exact dimensions that I needed, then de-​burred the bolt. It fit perfectly. They know their stuff, and are both polite and humble. Then I asked for some specific polythene tubing. Yup. They have that. I walked out for $ 2.50, total, with tax.
I get ad flyers from Menards twice a week. I’ll never set foot in Menards again, because most of their staff seem to be both clueless, and worse– don’t care. It’s all about the money.

My friends and I who have old houses and small budgets could not live without Sudings! Not only do they have stuff you’re unlikely to find anywhere else, they are very knowledgeable and helpful. I can – and have – walked in there with a broken something that I know is fixable, and they’ll tell me «you need X or Y part.» And it works. You can buy one screw or a tiny little spring, if that’s all you need. They have a great supply of plumbing parts, and you don’t have buy a whole kit just to replace one thing. I’ve been going here for years and recommend it to everyone I know, especially those folks who say «I need „this“ piece to fix this problem and I don’t know where to find it.» I do!

Suding Hardware is an old-​fashioned mom & pop hardware store. If you are in search of big-​ticket items for home repair, you’ll have to head to Lowe’s or Home Depot instead, but if you are in need of basics: screws, nails, small tools, plumbing or electrical supplies, Suding is a good idea.
I went in with my mom a while back — she counts on this place to cut glass for her… she was refinishing an old armoire that involved a mirror that needed to be custom cut to fit. The staff at Suding were super-​helpful and the prices were spot-​on. If you have some small home improvement projects to work on and don’t want the hassle of being overwhelmed at a massive home improvement retailer, head to Suding Hardware!
