I visited this past weekend. Used my card to pay for my drinks. My tab was $ 7.00, plus a $ 2.00 tip. My card was charged $ 20.00. I called on Sunday to see what the deal was and the man I spoke with said they charge a $ 20 hold to accounts of people they don’t know, and it is supposed to be refunded after 24 hours. He also said that the bartender should have told me this«rule». It’s Monday, and still no refund. I am extremely dissatisfied and would not reccomend using your card if you decide to go to this bar.

My friends and I hit this place last night nearing closing time. This was my first time here, but they frequent it. It wasn’t real crowded, maybe a dozen or so people left throughout. They had a pretty large bar and we were waited on right away by a guy and a girl. It looked like they had a pretty good selection of beer and liquor. I went for the bottled Rolling Rock, which I don’t see too often, so that was a plus that they had it. The other plus was that there is a pretty large patio deck out back where you can take your drinks and smoke to your heart’s content. Pretty dark out there and slightly rickety furniture, but did the job. The inside is carpeted and has a really low ceiling. It sort of felt like being in a basement rec room. There was another large room with a dance floor. The DJ was wrapping things up, but was funny and friendly. I was too lit to remember what he was saying now, but he made us laugh. I was walked to the ladies’ room as it seemed like a bit of a maze in the bar to me and I didn’t want to get lost. The restroom had an oddly high counter at the sink, but looked to have been recently remodeled. The girl working the bar wasn’t especially friendly, but I had lost all concept of time and I am sure she was just eager to close up and get home. She did let us know when it was last call and let us hang on the deck for quite awhile finishing our drinks. There was an exit on the patio that led right out into the parking lot. I do have to give them props on ample parking close by. Although I had fun, I wouldn’t say this is one of my favorite bars, but it wasn’t bad either. Not exactly my crowd, but on the plus side, definitely not a yuppie bar. All of the patrons I ran across were friendly though. It would be worth visiting again, maybe a bit earlier in the night. And it’s not a bad place to grab a drink before three am rears her ugly head. Nothing fancy, but a decent neighborhood bar. More of a two to two and a half star experience, but I bumped it up to three because I did have a good time and they didn’t throw us out right away.

I’m OK with Si’s, I guess. I’m a big fan of bar trivia, and that was my usual occasion for stopping in. I wasn’t disappointed, per se — I was a little scared a couple times — but not disappointed. Got yelled at by more than one drunk there. You kinda get exactly what you expect from such an business. It’s a tad rough. A bit dirtier than an establishment from which one might wish to purchase a sandwich. Not a dive. Just a bit dirty. The beer selection, I would imagine, probably pleases it’s regulars, but is limited if you’re looking for more than«lights» and«ices.» One thing the place definitely has going for it is their staff. They were generally very pleasant and worked hard to take care of their customers. Or maybe it was just the one bartender I always dealt with. The rest may be crap. Forget this paragraph. If you live very near Si Greene’s and lack transportation, this place may be for you! However, if you have a vehicle or maybe a bike and want a stout, you may need to travel a bit north.

It’s a dive bar but so much more. It’s a neighborhood bar. People know each other and you can return over and over. We love close so it’s our neighborhood bar. Great to watch a game, basic grab a stool and order a pint kind of place.

So after the debacle that was my first visit, I actually returned for some reason. A lot of the regulars here are actually pretty awesome and incredibly nice, but there are also plenty of weird and gruff old people there, and not the fun, endearing kind. Also, the beer selection is pretty lacking.

I think dive is the wrong word to describe Si Greene’s, neighborhood bar is better. Dives typically aspire to be ‘a dive’ Si is a friendly guy who loves owning a bar and runs it as such. Don’t come here expecting to be coddled or every nuisance of your preference tended to. If you have some content to your character this is a good place to let it be known. Si and I had a very nice conversation about my dad’s tour in Vietnam and didn’t embellish his own, which was nice and I respected because he had clearly been appreciating a bottle of wine and it would have been easy for him to. The nightly specials are good to stick with, pretty good prices. Not much in the way of food but our cute little waitress pointed out ‘everyone goes for the wings’ we did, and were happy with them. Thursday is trivia night, we didn’t play but there was a good turnout for it and it seemed fun. Front(facing 10th street) and rear entrances make it easy to enter, plenty of parking in the back. For the love of God, this is not a bad area so don’t think it is. Don’t let the thought prevent you from checking the place out.

There is really only one bar on the east side worth going to on a regular basis(J.Clyde’s) but when I don’t feel like journeying too far from my house, I can hold my nose and go to Si Green’s or the Butler Inn. I wouldn’t say that I am a snob(or maybe I just don’t know it?) but I afford east side bars in general just because they tend to be filled with goblins and squidbillies come to life. I hate cigarette smoke and I couldn’t give a flip about nascar or watching sports on tv which pretty much eliminates every bar on this side of town. Still, the bartenders here are nice enough and the drink prices are affordable. I find myself here more than I rationally might like so it can’t be that bad. Free popcorn.

I’ve only been here once after work(to meet a friend who lives nearby), and here’s why: at 6pm it was disgustingly smoky there is like one local beer offered… in Indy this is a travesty when I came in to meet my 2 friends, the bartender didn’t even acknowledge me For now, if I feel like getting a drink at a dive near home, I’ll stick to the Butler Inn… where the smoke is just as thick but at least I’m not ignored and the drinks are slightly cheaper. It was decorated in little Irish flags and Colts stuff, and the table we occupied was so wobbly we nearly lost a beer. It’s not unsafe and there is a parking lot out back, which is a plus.

I like dive bars, but this place horrible in every way. Annoying bartenders Overpriced drinks Bad music played too loud Funky layout Weird people I didn’t even last 5 minutes in this joint. I slammed my $ 7 weak a$$ Jamo-n-coke and ran for the door. buh-bye

Si Green has been running his bar on the east side of Indianapolis since the 70’s. He’s often there to greet his patrons and obviously loves what he does. The bar has about everything you’d need to entertain yourself and your friends. Pool tables, dart boards, big TVs(although, not HD), a jukebox and, most importantly, cheap drinks. It’s a very popular spot on St. Patrick’s Day and a great place for larger groups. If you’re on the east side and just looking for a friendly place to have a drink or to meet up with friends, there’s no better place than Si Green’s.
