Food and beer list wasn’t bad. It was super busy for a Friday night so it took awhile to get our food but our waitress did her best to keep us happy. Fish and chips — not bad and you can get a half order. Their potato chips(thick cut) are pretty good and well seasoned.

Decided to grab a bite here before a show at the Murat tonight and was a bit disappointed. When I came in, it seemed pretty slow really but the hostess seemed extremely overwhelmed and took 5 minutes deciding where to seat me as I didn’t want to sit at the bar. The waitress was pretty quick coming to take my order and she was nice. She got my beer and water to me quickly and my food came out not long after. I’d ordered a half order of Sheppard’s pie and a side salad. I hadn’t really eaten today so I didn’t immediately notice that my Sheppard’s pie had turned into Guinness stew on the way to the table. The waitress noticed and asked if I wanted it to be corrected, at this point I’d already eaten half of it and didn’t feel right saying yes, so I told her it was ok. A friend ended up joining me and ordered the smoked salmon platter and her cold food seemed to take longer to come out than any of mine did. I like the bar and the ambiance but I’m not terribly impressed with the food, will probably be back but only for drinks!

I had read a lot of about this place before going but unfortunately it turned out to be worst place on mass eve in my stay in Indianapolis. I sat on table for half an hour and no one had a courtesy even to wish forget about asking for order. Not even 10% of seating was occupied at that time. I decided to walk off after waiting for 30 minutes. Will not certainly recommend.

First time visiting after work and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered chicken wings and a flight. The server was very helpful and shared his knowledge of the different whiskys. The flight was expensive but had a good variety. The live band was good if you like that kind of music and was entertaining for the first hour. My only complaint is the place is too small for live bands but was cool for a change. I’m a fan of live bands. The wasn’t a crowd and that surprised me for the location and time of day. The other thing to be aware of is the limited parking. I like Mass Ave but parking is a limiting factor. Recommend giving this place a try.

How have I lived on Mass Ave for over 6 months and not have checked this place out before?! Quick summary: lots of drink options, delicious food, solid service. Now for the wordy bit… I came here with my hubby on a Sunday(late afternoon… early evening-ish) and immediately liked the interior –the place is clean, decorated nicely and has ample seating divided in all these little nooks & crannies(I’m certain we saw only a fraction of the options). Boasting Whiskey and beer flights as well as an impressive food menu, this place seems to have all the key pieces of my new favorite pub. Food: We settled in looking at the menu and immediately wanted to try numerous items. My husband chose the full portion of shepard’s pie which was a lot of food, but so good he almost finished it. I got a half order of fish and chips which was plenty of food. Even though my husband helped me with the thick cut potato rounds called«chips» I still couldn’t finish it all. The tarter sauce I asked for on the side was creamy, tart, and fresh tasting. Drinks: He had a Guinness and I opted to try the Bloody Irishman(twist on Bloody Mary with Jameson) and both were delightful! Word to the wise, stir your mixed drinks. After dinner we couldn’t help ourselves and both had Irish coffees. They were delightful, rivaling the Irish Coffee at The Buena Vista Café in San Francisco(credited with bringing the delightful drink to the states back in the 50’s). Overall, very happy we checked this place out!

There is nothing too great about Nine Irish which is a shame because it is a really great location on Mass Ave. It’s always pretty empty, the drinks are pricey, and the food is just OK. I really like the location at Purdue which made me even more disappointed in this one.

The original 9 Bros.(as my dad likes to call it, ha) opened up at Purdue when I was a student there. The 2nd location in Lafayette was nowhere as good as the original, so I was hesitant about this location. I was ecstatic to find out that I now I have a piece of Purdue here in Indy! I went on St. Paddy’s Day, so I feel like I’ll have to give this another go to really see how close this place is to the original(which is definitely 5⁄5 stars). However, I was so impressed by how 9 Bros. handled the crowds that day. I was amazed at how fast our food(still piping hot) and drinks came out. I had a Trojan Horse(Guinness with Coca Cola… weird, I know. Live a little!). I love that they have a menu of all sorts of Guinness concoctions(Guinness with: vodka, Smithwick’s, Blue Moon, to name a few…). I was so so so happy to have my beloved 9 Bros. Guinness Stew. This stew is so rich and hearty. I love the champs(mashed potatoes) on top. I love how each dish comes out with a slice of soda bread. My mom says it tastes very similar to how her grandma(from Ireland) used to make hers. The ambiance is great, and very similar to the original 9 Bros. The bar is a work of art. You really feel transported to Ireland. I’ve been to Ireland once, and the owner of 9 Bros.(who is Irish and was/is beloved by Purdue students) does a great job bringing that true Irish feel to the States.

I came here with a group of 14 people on a Tuesday night. We made a reservation, but ended up moving outside because it was a beautiful day! The patio is a good size and has beautiful lights strung overhead. We all ordered food and drinks and I only heard good things down the table. One person ordered hot wings and got half hot and half sweet, but when the server found out, they were very apologetic and offered a new meal. I got a half order of corned beef and cabbage and was very pleased. The half order was more than enough for one person. I tried the goat cheese fritters, they are very goat cheesy, but if you like that, they were great! I would absolutely come back!

I visited Nine Irish Brothers when my date and I had unsuccessfully tried to make dinner reservations at 3 other places on Mass Ave. on a Saturday evening. Everyone was booked up for Valentine’s Day, so we expected Nine Irish Brothers to be busy. Although there was plenty of business, it wasn’t crowded. It has the feel of an Irish bar complete with servers in kilts. I enjoyed the Guinness with Raspberry liquor and fried pickles, and my date reported that his banger sandwich was good. However, I was not impressed with the Reuben sandwich. Although it was piled high with corned beef, the meat was tough. I realize corned beef isn’t tender, but it felt like I was fighting my food, so I finally gave up and left more than half of it on the plate. The prices are what you would expect for their area. I would eat here again, but opt for another menu item.

Great great place. Can’t understand why there isn’t a line out the door every night. So this was my first visit and only a handful of customers around 5:30−6pm. Ordered the corn beef and cabbage entrée. It’s like momma used to make. I actually don’t feel guilty ordering this dish a month before st patty’s day. Also my g/f had a order of the Shepard pie. Also outstanding dish. This is a fantastic bar/restaurant. I highly recommend anyone in the downtown area to take the time to check this place out. One order of bread pudding that was amazing. Another great recommendation. Great food. Great service.

I really liked stopping in at Nine Irish back at Purdue for a beer or an Irish Carbomb. The bar was always packed with students and it felt like everyone was always having a good time. Unfortunately this location does not have the same vibe. The few times I’ve been here(solely on weekend nights) the place always feels empty and dark. The drinks are a tad overpriced and they have a pretty small beer selection. The carbombs, however, are still tasty and at least worth stopping in for a few minutes to take one.

I came in here to pass 20 minutes and have a quick drink. The place is spotlessly clean(it should be considering how new it is) and very«Irish» without looking like a leprechaun threw up shamrocks. My bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly(without being overbearing). There was a very nice selection of scotches and Irish whiskeys ready to pour from the wall-mounted dispensers. They have a good selection of local craft beers on tap and they were all $ 1 off on Mondays. The side of Irish chips I ordered to snack on were delicious — lightly breaded potato slices with their proprietary«bomb sauce» to dip them in. Right about now you’re wondering why only 3 stars? Well, there was this one little issue where I saw an employee come out of a restroom stall and NOTWASHHISHANDS before returning to work. Is that too much to ask for?

Four stars for this Irish pub. Perfect stop to grab a Guinness while strolling along Mass Ave. spacious bar, dark, classic wooden interior that transports you straight to the motherland. And, a menu of classic favs from Reubens to other familiar items. Seasonal calamari app was beyond expectations. More like calamari steak fries with a crispy exterior and tender interior. Looking forward to going back for a mea in the future. Just enough time for this visit for an app and a brew. Overall, impressed on the cleanliness, the service, the atmosphere, and location.

Came in for guiness, jameson and some live music. I got all three along with some bagpipes. I love me some bagpipe music. The décor and service was excellent, even on halloween night. Therefore it must be awesome anytime. The only downside I had here was the kitchen closed really early. I think it was 10 or 11. I’m not sure; but i’m sure if they sold some more food during the evening, then I’d stay longer for more drinks.

I always love finding an Irish restaurant and this place has a great location towards the end of mass ave. it’s your average, in some ways, sports bar. But some evenings they will have live Celtic music and that’s nice. The pot of gold appetizers are tasty albeit overpriced for me — it’s mini baked potato skins. Any Irish restaurant worth anything must have shepherds pie, and this place does. I’m hardcore about that dish and I rate it as 7⁄10. It’s solid and I enjoy it, it’s just not the best I’ve ever had. However, their mashed potato topping and sauce in the meat deserves to be checked out. Just when you go there, remember to pay the meter parking!

June-2014-This seemed like a real Irish bar, to me. A group singing Irish songs, with some sing-along by the patrons. It was packed, being open only a week, and it is a huge space. I can tell that this is going to be a go-to place. My friend and I only had drinks, so, a later review will comment on the food. Update-08.08.15-Second visit. Went early on a Saturday, around 5:30, and it was already busy. Matthew was our server and did a good job. I had the Veggie Burger, which was good, and the Corn Chowder, which was excellent. My wife had the Full Irish Breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, pub chips and a bread choice. She gave it a 10. I had some of her pub chips and loved them, especially with the spicey shamrock sauce. Will return some day.

The whiskey selection is nice. Our server was fast and friendly(and cute btw) This review is about the food. The place is not authentic or irish. The corned beef was lame. The sauerkraut was flavorless. The potatoes were not even potatoes! If you just want some drinks than yeah, go ahead, but if you want a meal go elsewhere.

What an amazing spot! For my birthday, my family planned to take me out for dinner and I chose 9IB. I had no idea that they offered a free whisky shot anddd bread pudding to anyone there for their birthday. Such a treat! We had amazing waiter who got us our drinks, appetizers, and dinner lightning fast despite the place being packed. All 5 of us ordered fish and chips and my family, who had never been to 9IB, said it was the best fish and chips they’d ever had. I’ll be back soon & highly recommend to anyone who asks for good food and atmosphere on Mass Ave.

My husband took me here for my birthday dinner. It was our first visit. Not crowded on a Monday night so we weren’t rushed and able to enjoy our dinner and speak to the server about the menu options and the entertainment options. We told the hostess it was my birthday and she said I would get a free shot. I was game and when the server approached I asked about it. Not only did I get a shot I also got a free bread pudding dessert. I had never had Kilbeggan whiskey before and I enjoyed it. Also not a big fan of bread pudding in general but I have to say their’s was so good! I had the chicken dinner with champs(mashed potatoes) and steamed vegetables and soda bread. It was delicious. The sauce/gravy was amazing over the chicken and mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the half order of fish and chips with cole slaw. He was stuffed as the half order was a significant sized meal. We will definitely go back soon. The food was wonderful, service was good and the atmosphere was nice. Plus we heard one of our favorite bands, The Fighting Jamesons, being played. We’ve seen that band several times at Irish Fest so it was fun to hear their music being played at the pub.

I’m feeling middle of the road on this one. First and foremost, the service was fantastic. Our waiter was on it and handled our plethora of questions very well —«what would you order?» «in a toss up between the shepherd’s pie and corned beef and cabbage — — who wins?» I really appreciated the vibe inside the restaurant — all wooden and cozy. Definitely the kind of place to hang out after work on a week night in the winter. Unfortunately, something about this place feels very manufactured to me. Maybe it was the instant potatoes that threw me off. C’mon, this is an Irish joint and homemade potatoes are pretty simple and budget-friendly. If you like your corned beef on the traditional side, note that theirs is shredded. Somewhat similar to pulled pork. Not that it’s a bad thing — just different. I’ll return to try out the indoor space rather than the patio next time. Maybe the Guinness beef stew will be my next target?
