Not very good. Long wait for one dry piece of pizza. Very friendly service. Doubt I’ll be back.

I was leaving work tonight and in the mood for pizza, but also not in the mood for a major splurge. I’d always contemplated stopping at the original Napoli’s Pizza, a divey looking establishment at 34th& Shadeland. I happened to check out their website not long ago and noticed that they’d located this location just south of 16th on Arlington Avenue. It’s located in what looks like an old Pizza Hut. Napoli’s is still a tad divey, even in this location. The inside has simple, Italian-lite look with a decent sized dining area and an ordering counter that has a nice glass/plexi-glass area that rises and most likely serves as a reminder that you’re not in a great neighborhood. That said, the woman working the counter was friendly and helpful. Napoli’s serves your usual Italian fare including pizza, by the pie or by the slice, along with calzones, subs, pasta, salads, and drinks including iced tea and your usual soft drinks either by fountain or by can. They offer about a half dozen specials and, as was noted by one other Unilocaler, it all definitely does have a «mall» feeling to it. The prices are also on par with the mall, though possibly a tad lower. I paid $ 5.45 for a slice of decent-sized sausage pizza along with a couple of breadsticks(pepperoni). The drink was extra and I believe was $ 1.75 for a large fountain drink. Food quality? It’s not advertised as gourmet pizza, so punishing it because it’s not that seems unfair. That said, it’s good olé’ fashioned middle-of-the-road pizza that I would certainly never go out of my way for but also wouldn’t avoid. Sbarro probably is a fair comparison for it, though I definitely give the nod to this slice and to these breadsticks. The service was friendly, the atmosphere pleasant enough with a couple of televisions available. The parking lot had one accessible parking space and a nice curb cut, so accessibility is not an issue. I sometimes struggle to review these middle-of-the-road places. They don’t really strike me as good or bad — they just are. I didn’t feel passionate about any aspect of this meal, but I also didn’t hate it. I may have been hoping for something a bit more special, but I’ve also had much worse. So, three stars seems about perfect. I am willing to give an extra star on the basis of friendly staff, a decent environment, and solid accessibility. This isn’t a place I’ll return to often, but if I’m in the mood for a slice on my way home I can definitely see myself stopping in again. That said, if you’re in Irvington and truly want the incredible pizza(at a definitely higher price) Jockamo’s is only a few minutes away.

Seriously folks… this is not great pizza. It’s mall pizza and breadsticks. If you like Sbarro’s re-heated pizza you will probably like this. I was disappointed. Please temper your positive reviews a bit because you are setting people up for a great let down. The one nice thing I will say is that my slice had a lot of sauce on it, which I like. But… the sauce didn’t have much flavor. Also, I only tried a slice of pizza and bread sticks so maybe their other menu items are better. The prices were commensurate with the flavor so pretty inexpensive; which is good. This place will do in a pinch. I hope to try their Shadeland location and I hope it is better.

Okay let’s just stop with all the positive comments about this place. I’m visiting from New York and have lived there for the past 34 years. I know pizza and this is a long stretch from New York Style Pizza. I stopped in for carryout and ordered boneless chicken wings(mild) and a slice of regular. Once we established that regular meant cheese my slice was placed in an oven, which from the looks of the outside had not been cleared in forever. As for the wings OMG… the first question the cook had for the waitress was how long do we microwave them 3 minutes? No she said 2. Once they have been microwaved to perfection they were then placed in the oven. Meanwhile the slice was done and placed in a box, but oh the order of wings is still cooking so I’ll just leave it on top of the oven and hope it stays warm until the rest of the order is complete. Now the wings are done so we will apply a liberal amount of sauce. Lets see place the wings in a Styrofoam container(the same container that will be used to send them out the door) add sauce and shake. Add a container of blue cheese dressing and there you go the order is complete. It looked from the advertising on the windows that this place had just opened, but after asking I was told they had been open several months. The slices in the display case looked like they had been there for hours or a day or two depending on how critical you’d like to be. I was interested in visiting the original location to see if it was as equally disappointing, but my time was short in Indy with more important matters to attend to rather than continue on m foodie exploration. I think the location of this shop is good, however it needs to be more proactive in the revitalization of this area starting with customer service, appearance of the kitchen. The seating is great, lot of room; the only problem was there was no one in the place. I noticed the three other reviews were made when they first opened; maybe it’s time for the family to revisit this location and make some simple, but important improvements. As for now next time I’m in Indy I will not be going back to Napolis Pizza II.

GREAT family owned pizza and sub shop that just opened. Very good NY style pizza. Everything made with fresh top-notch ingredients. The chef salad is unique and recommended. Lots of seating and a nice family atmosphere. Same owners as the original Napolis on Shadeland that we have loved for years.
